I always liked Quake 2's soundtrack. I also like how the game was on a CD rom, and the music was all regular CD tracks, so I was able to rip em to MP3s back in the day and I still listen to em all the time
When I saw this thread title, immediately the Command & Conquer series sprang to mind as the very first thing. Frank Klepacki's stuff was amazing.
Of more recent vintage, the 2016 DOOM reboot has an amazing soundtrack.
My fav track
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights! The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.
Really old school is "Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries" was recorded in "Redbook Audio" (normal CD music format) and find it has a good driving beat as backdrop for big lumbering 20+ ton stomping robots.
I forgot two of my favourites!
ICO - an utterly fantastic game overlooked by many (including myself) for its marketing not quite making clear what it was about sort of. It's an utter golden gem of a game (Castle in the Mist is beautiful!)
Shadow of the Colossus - same studio, very different style of game and once more utterly fantastic
It's probably cheating, but Conan Exiles has a fair amount of music lifted straight from the '82 Conan the Barbarian. Which is a durned fine piece of work.
