The Orks are correct: The red ones do go faster!

I notice this myself when painting my Eldar vehicles. A (blue) marine tank is a slog I need to force myself through weeks of work to finish. Eldar (red) Leap off the bench in just a few days. When you figure my red takes about a zillion coats to get a smooth finish, this is kinda shocking.

Sharp looking squad.

Thanks man! And yeah I agree with you there, all of my 6 armies have red as a major colour, either as the main colour (Blood Ravens, Behemoth Nids) or as a large spot colour (Deathwatch, Grey Knights, Black Legion, Orks), and it goes so much quicker to me. Maybe its because other colours have such large or small difference between shades? Like, painting GK is a trawl because silver to slightly bright silver looks like nothing, while Waaagh! Flesh to Warboss green always needs 4-5 coats for me, and black models are just a drybrush to highlight.

Midget Gems wrote:Nice Work Deadshot, congrats on getting them finished to a good standard so quickly. Have you been subscribing to the Para school of painting recently?

Cool choice DV8, looking forward to seeing what you do with those, lots of nice potential with the capes/cloth.

Thanks a lot dude! Shockingly, I have not! believe it or not, I actually do most projects over 2-3 days. The only reason I end up submitted deadline day is that life is too busy at the moment. Most of the projects I've done particular for this comp are done really quickly. The Trukk I submitted for last month was built on a Saturday, sprayed on sunday and fully completed by the wednesday apart from minor touchups.

Nice looking unit there DV8. Interesting take on the theme, I think most people including myself are going for flyers and jump infantry type stuff, but floaty ghosts are awesome.

Very nice my friend! I was almost going to do the same with one I've had for nearly 5 years but the wings and pinning are a modeller's nightmare. I'll pray for your fingers when you cut them to shreds on that beast!

Alright then!

I've had this guy since Island of Blood first came out. I was mainly a WHFB collector in those days and High Elves were my main army, so a starter set with my army in it was an instant buy when WHFB 8th came out. But I drifted away from the hobby shortly after, and I'd only got as far as building and priming the HE, and half painting the Seaguard. The Phoenix I did for the challenge a couple of months ago is the first HE model I've finished since then, so it's about time the prince got done.

From back when I used to prime things black...

It'll probably be towards the end of the month before I manage to get him done - I'm trying to finish some Eldar Rangers in time for a game, and I've got a week away for work coming up.

Sweeeetttt model dude. Agree with it being an instant classic, was up there for me with the Black Reach Captain for starter box models. Such a shame they removed it from the line instead of releasing individually. Will look forward to this one!

@Deadshot: Nice work on those Blood Angels! I'm jealous of the fact that you did them so fast!

@DV8: The Chainrasps might be the coolest models in the newer AoS starter, so I look forward to seeing what you can do with them.

@Bellerophon: That Griffin Rider prince almost got me to buy into WHFB way back when, and again when they did the limited rerelease of Island of Blood for AoS. He'll be really awesome when he's done, I'm sure!

As for my own entry, progress has been made:

Still got some smaller details to basecoat, and then it'll be on to shading. I'll also need to clean up the green armor a little bit where my drybrush highlights got a little messy.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 7 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

Here we go, got a crimson hunter and some escorting jetbikes. The bikes almost went to trash because they had like 3 ugly painting layers and I'm missing the drivers. Decided to try some easy saim hann colors on them, so they are freshly primed and ready to go.

Already built some with parts from different kits. Mostly spare dire avenger chests and three different heads. Dire avenger, basic guardian and one old jetbike guardian. But it's fine. That way I don't worry too much on trying some new techniques and colors. Hope I'll be able to do a better picture with the result. Didn't worry for the entry.

I was a little leery painting this guy up, but I’m enjoying him now.

Still plenty to do including the dryad being hurled, but enjoying the project, which is most important.

Midgetgems, I can already tell that is going to be another awesome conversion from you - looking forward to seeing it!

Belerephon, I almost chose that model myself! Got to the point of even priming it and then got excited about another idea - will post proof pic if it gets off the ground...oh crap, sorry, didn't mean that...not deleting it though!

Looks like i’ll Be concentrating on the Wingmaster! I’ve painted a lot of Space Wolves recently, so this is a nice change of style. I’ve been putting this off for ages but I’m having a shot at some NMM elements for the first time ever. Quite pleased with the result so far!

That definitely looks like metal tikay so id say that's a solid first attempt.

Almost finished the skin on these guys. My first time painting dark skin so would appreciate any feedback or tips for this, as it stands I'm just planning a lighter brown sharp highlight to finish off but if you have other suggestions I'm all ears.

Better pictures to come, but hopefully you can see the concept of flight in the Sylvaneth world. The big trees throw their little twigs at enemy flyers and over the ramparts of enemy fortresses.

Might add a few more touches, so still not Done done.

First highlight done on the skin tones, going to add a brighter spot highlight too for these. Then I will finish the clothes and finally the crows.
Painting up some characters to go with them at the same time so thought I may as well share their progress too.
As always feedback is welcome and appreciated.

I haven't painted Tau minis in a very long time that I forgot I have some lying around. I found a piranha in my pile of shame.
Since I'm not such a huge fan of the current design I made a few adjustments, a bit of conversion, I made it more like a fighter jet.

I have access to 3D printer at work so with my limited design skill I drew a wing and a canopy. IMO it looks alright.
