The Psychneuein were really horrific sounding baddies in the Thousand Sons 30k book, good luck converting them! I think the gellerpox infected had some wasp like creatures as eyestinger swarms of various sizes. Some of the newer Tyranid things had things that seemed like psychic terrors to me. I reckon the neuroloids tentacles might convert well to replace the belly of the big eyestinger.

Yeah, I was thinking a lot of my parts will be coming from tyranid donors. I should find that book and use the written description as a guide. Thanks for your suggestions, gobert!

Well, it's been a minute, but I started working on some deathwatch models to use in the campaign I've been writing for the past 7+ years. Carving shoulder pads away to fit other shoulder pads on is challenging.

But it's easier when I carve the shoulder away before I assemble the whole model.

Also, I should probably work at a much larger table. What do you all think?

That does look like a tiny table any pointers on cutting them up? I’m thinking that my Angels of Death Kill Team will get inducted in to the Deathwatch so will need a similar treatment

If possible, remove the backpack first. I used clippers to work around the edges of the shoulder pad first and then a small saw to make straight, shallow cuts in line with the trim. Then I went in with a sharp exacto to carve away at the bulk plastic. Once I'd reached a fairly "accurate" shape by constantly comparing the new pad to the fit), I took a tiny piece of sandpaper and smoothed it down even further. Mostly it's a matter of bulk trimming followed by fine tuning with sandpaper and constantly comparing your new pad to the shape and fit of the shoulder you're working on. It felt more intimidating than it wound up being.

The squad grows. Disregard the mountain of laundry in the background. It counts as scatter terrain.

Nice, I have a bunch of the old plastic Deathwatch shoulder pads in my bits box that are screaming kill team in the future.

Yeah, I have old metal pads, new plastic pads, and 3rd party 3d printed ones, besides. My intention is to make 40 or 50 Deathwatch models so participants have plenty of choices.

Nice job on these guys! I went with the option to completely remove the OG shoulder pads on my Deathwatch. Was a fun project being so brutal with minis always is! I also got to use up some random chapter pads that I collected on eBay lots.

Cool! I was thinking of ordering "deathwatch chapter collection" shoulder pad sets from Pop goes the monkey (I think that's who sells them). They sell sets of 10 different chapters to make eacg squad unique. For the models with molded on pauldrons I figured I'd just do my best to freehand some chapter iconography.

Sorry no picture to support this claim, but I started building first born tactical marines and they are TINY by comparison to the Primaris models. Why couldn't GW just remake the first born models in larger scale? Why did they have to redo the entire format of Astartes armies? Was it too difficult to just make larger, cooler versions of tacticals, assault, and devastators? I can't comprehend the reasoning behind remaking the Space Marine codexes into just "human versions of eldar aspects"

Okay, here are some potato photos of all my progress with the Deathwatch, in no particular order or sense of display.

Here's a stance comparison between an ancient tactical marine and the newest Deathwatch tactical models. The legs are straighter and it maybe it increases the height by a millimeter?

See? First born are WEENSY!

Also, I kind of feel like some of the Primaris push-fit models are TOO dynamically posed. They look like they are strutting.

I've been trolling tyranid conversions and may try my hand at sculpting up some "extra parts" to add to my bigger bugs...eventually. I have so many projects to get to.

Those pop goes the monkey shoulder pad collections are really quite cool, and they’ll be quicker to paint than freehand I reckon. Seeing the nu and olde marines side by side really does make it quite stark. Good luck getting them all built

Well that is an original way to create terrain. Very different the classic small cardboard boxes, Lego, bottles, etc.

Cheers,
