Typhus is more palatable with a good paint job. No paintjob can hide Shrike's emo hair though.

Yeah this was always gonna be a battle between emo shrike and rock album cover typhus

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

It's gotta be Shrike for me. The old Beakie Shrike was a classic Space Marine character, and I actually own it despite not playing the army. The new one looks like a weird hybrid of Dark Eldar and Tau aesthetics, as if one mashed Drazhar and Shadowsun together with half the dynamism of the old sculpt, and slapped the hair off an emo band or teenage anime character on top

The new Typhus doesn't bother me as much. I own and love the old one, I think the pose on the new one is a bit silly, but I think the paintjob GW gave it that everyone sees is what really drags it down, I feel much the same about the entire Death Guard line, it's all far too too clean and bright. With a decent rusty/dirty/grimy/gross paintjob it's not too bad.

I didn't like the new Typhus when it came out, but its grown on me. I think a lot of photos don't do it justice.

Its kind of the inverse of Drazhar, who I think was my biggest disappointment. Praying Mantis Aspect Warriors perhaps never took but I thought the model and picture were the definition of cool back in 3rd edition. There is now nothing iconic to latch on to. Every DE topic ends up here - but it just seems another step on the slow leaching of character and personality from the faction. Incubi have devolved into just kabalites with a bit of leg armour, fancier helmets and big swords, so it stands to reason the biggest incubi is just... the same but with a bit more bling yeah? Its not a terrible model - just a lame one.

Mixed views on Shrike. I don't particularly like the model - but think "we are emo James Bond wannabe Space Marines" essentially sums up the ridiculousness of Raven Guard... but I realise some people like the chapter.

Really though, the new Masque is probably the model I look at and go "I can see what you were trying, but something really hasn't worked". Same with all the new daemonette scale models barring *maybe* the Enrapturess. There's something I don't like about the scale. Not quite sure how to describe it. Maybe its a bit like how people look at terminators and for some reason go "no, their shoulders are above their heads, I can't cope with this."

But anyway - I think that's the worst model on the list.

Outside of that, I like almost all of the new models. I think the marines all fit their respective chapter really well.

It's the pose in comparison to the old one. The old model looks like he's slowly, relentlessly, coming to destroy you. The new one is just another hero pose.

Shrike is the worst though. He looks like he came out of a 90s comic book. Too much extra crap, and that hair, good grief.

Huh. I thought the old one to be a bit bland for the herald of nurgle. The new pose kind of feels like a Typhus would step up on a hill, seemingly facing the enemy alone, raise his Manreaper as a signal and then hordes of poxwalkers would come charging past him left and right, with him being the stoic center of the undead horde.

It's subjective isn't it? If you dig him, cool.

But do poxwalkers really charge past anything? Wouldn't it be more of a shamble?

Though the way the head's pointing conveniently hides the missing bit if you want to cut the helmet off the belt and swap it back in. I'm still working on a backpack fix.

What's wrong with the backpack? I'm more upset about emo hair and him standing up high enough to be shot at by anyone.

Someone just chopped two extra vents off one Reiver backpack and stuck them to another. It looks too big and too cobbled-together. Like someone's drawn a four-armed monster without thinking about the shoulders.

Just looked at the 360 as I've only ever seen flat pics of it. Holy gak, that backpack is ugly...

I'd forgotten about the spurs too. Can I change my vote? At least Typhus is salvageable, Shrike is... um, yeah.

Well, a Monolith could charge past a Death Guard in Cartaphractii armor
I actually face the problem of the pox walkers outrunning him fairly often, especially when they charge.

I agree on the notion that GW's green paintjob on DG isn't exactly beautiful, I painted mine using the white paint-scheme that can be found in the codex pictures and a few store pictures.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I'll be honest, I actually quite like a lot of them.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't like the old Shrike sculpt - didn't look dynamic, and having both lightning claws upwards? Eh, that wasn't a good look in my opinion. And while I miss the lightning claws on what is definitely a more suitable body (like, I never really liked the look of lightning claws on power armour until Primaris or the more slender Mark IV claws), I really don't mind the Primaris sculpt, emo hair and all.

I think the only one which I look at that doesn't elicit any kind of "that's pretty cool" is the Masque, and that's just because it's momentum and direction are just lacking.

I love my Shrike model, one of my favourites. Its not your standard 40K model, and since he is leading a whole new Phobos line...that works for me.

I voted Tigurius, could it have been more dull? Nothing appealing at all, and so similar to original that it didn't need to be changed.

Typhus. Don't mind Shrike, presumably that haircut does not indicate the same thing 40k years in the future and it's an amusing enough wink at the audience for me.

I also voted Tigs. Love or Hate a lot of the other models, they inspire some sort of feeling. Tigurius is just is kinda there. And we know they can make great looking primaris librarians. Lost opportunity just phoned in. GW can do better.

I voted Typhus. When it originally released I didn't much care for shrike but now that I have him I don't mind it. I left off a lot of the clutter and accessories though. One day I might get the marine version off ebay so I can have both.

Presumably, it does. Since the Raven Guard are like emo space marines, Shrike has an Emo haircut. I think it's great and hilarious, personally, though I don't play RG.

Anyway, I didn't like Calgar. I don't like the twin power-fists look anyway, and the underslung weapons are weird, and his pose is like "what exactly is he doing?" [to his credit, so is his older models. It doesn't really make it better.]

Shrike, for his part, also have a weird posed with this gigantic scenic base wall thing. Though, to be fair, compared to his old ballerina model, it is at least an upgrade.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Calgar's model is silly, but at the same time looks like it could have come right off the 2E cover art (aside from just not being red), and really fits that whole early GW era "Heavy Metal"-esque visual, so I give it a pass on nostalgia's count

I have to give the extra nostalgia push back and say the 2nd Ed Calgar is still better. While both models have a raised fist, the older model manages to have a nice flow while the new one looks really awkwardly static.

I voted for shrike, just thought it looked a bit too silly.
I have both versions of typhus and admit the original is better.
Not keen on Calgar, sometimes a nod to the past isn't a good thing. Similar to why those wide legged spread armed poses are no longer used for character models. (but easy to cast)
I'm not keen on Fabius either, can't get away from the face.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples
