This is going to be fixed, I believe, since I've heard some mention of them being Talons of the Emperor again.

They're auxiliary to the Custodes anyway.

They aren't an auxiliary to Custodes; though they made their first appearance as models as part of the Talons, nothing in the fluff prior to Talons even mentioned a connection; the current WD dex mentions their work with Talons, but goes on to detail the numerous times they act independently, and they are actually a part of the Astra Telepathica, which again, has no connection to Custodes. Granted, I haven't read the novels, and I'm not familiar with the fluff that they created for Talons. But IMHO, I feel that their unique characteristics make them the ultimate Witch Hunters, and while Custodes certainly aren't afraid of witches, I don't think that even the most die hard Custodes fan would suggest that they are witch hunters, or that the hunting of witches is a specific tennet of their core mandate. Frankly, I'd rather see them as a second troops choice in the SoB; they wouldn't benefit from <Order> but they wouldn't cancel it either.

Don't get me wrong: I am happy about the Talons keyword on behalf of Custodes players, and I am happy that the models will likely see more tables because of the change. It is a good change for the game. It may also unlock transport options for us, because we didn't have any in the WD dex. Beyond that though, it doesn't help me, because even though I love SoS, I have no interest in Custodes.

In fact the Null Maiden Vanguard rule previewed today is really the same as the rule that already existed, but with the CP changes in 9th, it's worse now than it was. Because Vanguard isn't a core detachment, even if it was your only detachment, you'd still have to pay for it. A 500 point Crusade army with a slotless Hereticus Inquisitor attached to a Null Maiden Vanguard was about the only way I could see using them. Now that I have to pay CP to do it?

Pass.

I am still hopeful they give us something as the new edition grinds along; it doesn't have to be much- heck, I'd be happy if we could take Aleya without Valerian and they FAQ it that a Null Maiden Vanguard is a core detachment for SoS. Sure, I'd like as much as GW would be willing to give us, but I'm not asking for a full dex or anything. I just hate that one of two woman-only forces in the can only be used with any chances of success if they bring along a big stwong man.

I think it's kind of surprising given their sneaky nature and sniper that Genestealer cults can't take a unit of snipers. I know you can use Guardsman ones but like Brood Brothers it's one unit entry I think could move over proper for org reasons and to get some nice models of them.

I'm still surprised GC's can't take Termites too.

A proper fast attack option for Guard like bikes or a tauros like buggy. Hellhounds and sentinels fill the fast attack slot but seem more like light weapon platforms than proper fast attack units IMO.

Perhaps more of a "what I'd like to see" than "surprisingly absent": a plastic destroyer tank. It's a popular and missed OOP Forge World model and Guard don't have a good dedicated tank destroyer (a regular Leman Russ out performs a Vanquisher).

Looted wagons - Orks should be able to buy any tank, from any army, lose any special rules (you get the stat line and the guns, that's it, no power of the machine spirit, leman russes shooting twice or monolith portal!), drop it to BS 5+ and pay the same points for it.

It would be less effective than its standard counterpart, and probably not worth its points, but would pave the way for crazy ork armies again!

Harlequins - Webway Guardians.

Pretty much any time they talk about the black library they talk about the horrific wraithbone constructs that the harlequins have lurking in there and guarding the BL. Seems like GW's got the most popular category of unit for eldar (that being the eldar wraiths) and an opportunity to make it real nasty and evil looking, and they just ain't doing it for some reason.

Kasrkins were never the signature unit of Cadian - that would be countless infantry squad under the command of Creed and Kell. Stormtroopers were indeed WELL KNOWN as the elite force comprised of the best of the best Cadians, but I think it's a stretch to call them "signature units".

This is like saying Crimson Fists' signature units are tactical marines because they have a lore that says they defended against orks despite the significant disadvantages they faced. Mention of participation (of utmost importance) of the 13th crusade doesn't automatically make them "signature units". They would be something like Deathwing TDA, or Saim-hann jetbikes.

Codex: Eye of Terror wrote:The Kasrkin are the elite of the Cadian military. They are marked out while they are still in the Youth Armies and enrolled in special academies where they receive training that is more than a match for that provided to Imperial Stormtroopers. They are utterly dedicated to the preservation of Cadia and follow an ethos of duty and honour that is both impressive and intimidating.

Codex: Eye of Terror wrote:Cadia maintains several military academies based on the model set by the Schola Progenium. Exceptional individuals are trained at these establishments to Imperial Stormtrooper standards as Kasrkin (pronounced Kas-er-kin). Kasrkin squads are allocated to shock troop companies to provide an extra cutting edge in battle. See the army list summary and list entry for more details.

And then there was the unit selection...
Elites: Kasrkin Squads(use the Stormtrooper entry in C: Imperial Guard)
Troops: 0-3 Kasrkin Squads(use the Kasrkin entry below[wasn't actually below, was two pages on]).

You are certainly welcome to disagree with them being the sole, signature unit--but the Shock Troops have never been given unique rules. Kasrkin have gotten their own unique squads.
And for the record, we absolutely should see at least one signature unit per Guard, Marine(Loyalist and Traitor), Aeldari, and Ork subfaction.

An imperial guard heavy flame tank with inferno cannon, but also a primary weapon. Like havi g the I ferno cannon as a hull mount in a Russ. Churchill crocodile style, because sometimes you want a good gun and heavier armour when assaulting the enemy.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
IG field pieces (I guess cheap battle cannon, vanquisher/punisher etc, weapons teams WW2 AT gun team style) I mean it makes sense to me for some guard units to want as many guns on the field as they can get, and you might not want to pay for the whole hull of the vehicle.

IG assault sections with close combat weapons/upgrades and upgradeable jumppack.

Custodes grav tanks, but FW has that covered.

Space wolves having wolves lager than Thunderwolves. I wouldn't mind seeing one of the fluff-mentioned varietys that are the size of a Rhino as a personal mount for a special character.

A note on the FW tanks, they're abysmal. The amount of work that needs to be done to get them on the table is absurd, I've got a lot of friends that play stodes and none of them will buy that kit due to the issues they've all seen with warped parts and fitting.
