Just saw him play Aristotle in Alexander

He was a talented actor, and I can even forgive him for being in Star Crash.

Bit of a niche UK one - Victor Ambrus, the artist on Time Team, has died.

Spoiler:
Time team are deeply saddened to have learnt of the passing of our dear friend, Victor Ambrus, on 10th February 2021.
Having talked to the family this evening, Tim was told that this wonderful man had a peaceful end with his family around. They agreed to this announcement.
As one of the founding members of the Time Team family he was loved and respected by the whole team. He was an essential part of the team’s success - who brought the past to life. He was an exceptional and unique artist and a wonderful human being. He will always be in our memory and forever part of the Time Team story.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
May he rest in peace.

This may not mean much to many of you, but legendary Christian singer Carman passed away yesterday at the age of 65, due to complications during a surgery for a hernia.

For those who don't know who Carman was, he was probably the greatest Christian singer of all time, and the one who held the record for the largest concert by a Christian artist (71,000 people in a stadium). I was fortunate enough to have him actually do a small event at my church and thus got to see him sing live. Truly a sad loss for Christians everywhere.

Flat out ghoulish, you both should be ashamed of yourselves. Fairly confident that your expectation is to NOT have this level of disrespect along at anyone who influenced you passing, so why would you not extend the same courtesy and respect for others? Proving once again that the ban on politics here is only a ban on politics the herd dislikes.

I wonder how you would have reacted to me saying Rapist In Purgatory when Kobe Bryant died...

Nope, was rooting for his cancer. It just had the misfortune of being born in Rush Limbaugh.

Frankly, the man was a living fecal swab who, after decades of celebrating the deaths of people I love, came down with a disease that definitely couldn't have been caused by the idiot's cigar habit because tobacco can't cause lung cancer. I'm not going to say I won't be tap dancing on his grave. I've already got maracas and a big foam middle finger ready to go for his funeral.

He's being treated with the same amount of respect and courtesy he showed others in life. In that way, he's getting exactly what he's owed. If he wanted respect and courtesy, he should have acted on that before he shuffled off.

Death doesn't exonerate him, nor should it take away from his actions in life.

Mmm, while I won't say anything along the lines of 'yes I'm glad he's dead', from what I can see over in the UK he appears to have been a dreadfully backwards-thinking racist, sexist, homophobic arsehole. I can't see any sign of him having had any sort of 'good' opinion about anything, and I'm concerned about anyone saying he was in any way influential to them.

His charity work is easily googled, but ultimately it doesn't matter. What I learned here is that I apparently need to sink to the depths of my enemies rather than try to rise above them.

Enjoy your... whatever the hell it is you call this celebration, I'm unsubscribing to the thread and leaving you to it...

I can not unsee the fact that Rush Limbaugh and Larry Flynt died so close to each other in time.

To me they were both pretty influential figures and were two sides on the same coin. Strange.

Edit: I also use this time to remind everyone of the yellow triangle of friendship.

Not one to celebrate myself, but...this ain't it. I debated flagging the acknowledgement of his death yesterday, as he's an extremely(and appropriately) divisive figure.

To throw out just one example:
Rush used to read off lists of gay men who had passed away from AIDS, while playing canned applause tracks.

Rush had a segment called AIDS Update where he mocked dead and dying people with AIDS. How is this not appropriate, to treat him as he treated others?

So is his treatment of homosexuals. But hey, I donate to charity, you can't criticise me, right?
What I learned here is that I apparently need to sink to the depths of my enemies rather than try to rise above them.
I learned that once your heart stops, apparently everyone is supposed to forget and forgive what you did in life?

Which is dumb. Give people the treatment they treated others with, in life, or death.

Duskweaver wrote:Ah, gravedancing: perhaps the single dumbest way to hand somebody you despise the moral high ground.
There is no moral high ground someone who laughed at the deaths of AIDS victims could ever have, save for inverted one.

Kanluwen wrote:Rush used to read off lists of gay men who had passed away from AIDS, while playing canned applause tracks.
Yup. No sympathy or forgiveness from me here. He sowed it in life, now he can reap it in death.

Looking for any celebrity to move us on here. .

This one honestly surprised me: Bruce F. Meyers.

Now, for those of us who are petrol heads, have watched the Grand Tour (and those three in general), this guy's name should bring one thing to mind: the Meyers Manx, aka the OG Dune Buggy. . . ya know, the one based on a Beetle?

The surprise for me is, if I'm honest, is that if you'd have asked me if the inventor of the dune buggy was still around, I'd have thought he would pass on in like, the 70s or 80s. . . not just. . . Today.

Cliff Simon, best known to Sci-fi fans as System Lord Baal from Stargate SG-1, passed away on Tuesday in a kiteboarding accident. He was 58 years old.
