Play a few games and then go look for guides and help - there is loads out there. Just don't go there first because its hard to understand and use guides when you're still finding where all the buttons are and such.

One way to make it simpler, don't use too many unit types, unless they can stand together in a line and auto. Try and cut down on the amount of things that need micromanaging.

I got a copy today for $15 AUD. The games included add up to around $400 AUD on steam so crazy value even if I only end up liking a few. Chapter Approved being in the same issue is just crazy.

I found it a touch overwhelming at first. There's a lot to do and remember and it did take me a while to get the hang of it.
I also made the mistake of trying to play the Beastmen first off. Horde armies like Beastmen and Chaos add an extra level of difficultly to currency management that isn't entirely forgiving to newbies.

Honestly, I'd recommend trying the Empire out first. They've got a solid all round roster and I found them to be quite forgiving compared to other races. Balthesar Gelt is a beast when you get a few ranks into him.
Dwarfs too aren't bad for beginners.

I started with Dwarfs.

You can at least sit behind a line of guns, with some high leadership infantry to take charges, and artillery to take care of big things. Plus it also means you don't have to learn how magic works right away, and get the basics down first.

Look up PartyElite on Youtube - he has some great beginner guides. I also had a hell of a time getting the hang of the controls at first. Once you get used to it is much easier.

If its your first total war game then its a lot to learn!

The historic titles dont involve magic and are much truer classic strategy games where manoeuvring, flanking and rear charging really matters.

I'd recommend you start with High elves as its probably the most beginner friendly and forgiving.

Anything in particular you are struggling with? Is it the campaign map side of things or battles?
Start off at normal difficulty and you can pause battles if you are getting overwhelmed with AI. As a player its very hard to micro all of the units at the same time

That's also a good point!
I, by and large, "ignore" magic on the whole. I find it to be somewhat of a distraction and while useful, I don't think it'd miss it if it wasn't there. Even with someone like Gelt, or Mannfred/Vlad I key them around their troop buffing abilities over their magical. I tend to leave that to the heroes.

But this is getting a little off topic. There's a whole Total Warhammer thread for this sort of thing.

On-topic. I went out and bought the new white dwarf (mostly for the discount games). After a quick flick through, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Atrax-class siege walker. I remember seeing it in various stages of construction and painting on /tg/. Nice to see it getting a bit of spotlight as the guy worked hard on it. Dropped it. And then worked really hard on fixing it!
I look forward to perusing it in full at work tomorrow.

The siege Walker was awesome to see. And it would make a great inspiration for the next admech codex- a micro-ordinatus with baneblade scale guns would fill a role as a heavy tank light lord of war that things like the repulsor executioner, monolith and baneblade sit in, especially with knights stripped out of the admech book. That, heavily armored infantry like 40k version of thallax, and a terrain piece like a small forge shrine are the next roles that should be looked at to add new kits.

On the total warhammer front:

Why yes, of course. You see I'm clairvoyant, and rather than use my amazing powers to conquer the world or enrich myself, I elected to use them to predict a handful of free computer games would be packaged with a niche hobby magazine a few months down the line. It was a brilliant scheme, if I do say so myself.

Read through the magazine, and there is a really well done article on how dense and obscuring terrain works with different unit types with lots of great visual examples. I was pretty pleased by it, as it cleared up the rules for me very well.

Good thing this actually incredibly useful article just happens to be in the most desired, hardest to obtain issue of the magazine!

Shame they didn't put the BFG game in, that actually looks pretty good.

While it would be nice to see all the best releases on one magazine cover, I don't think GW will be that stupid.

If there is a Munitorum Field Manual 2021 Mk1, it presumably means there is a second Munitorum Field Manual later this year. Maybe we will get more games then.

The first BFG game wouldn't have been a bad choice, given that the second one has been out for ages, much like TWW1.

And I'm not just saying that because I don't have the first BFG game.

Based on how the team behind BFG seems to work chances are they could be working on BFG3 right now. Though its hard to tell, they tend to release the game, do a little expansion and then vanish into total silence.

They did well with the licence, I see no reason not to milk it. Rather than having race DLC release a new game as a standalone. Sounds like smart use of the property to me.

At the same time they leave lots of little niggling issues with their current game. My point is if they polished it more they could go from B grade to AA grade quite easily.

Don't get me wrong, BF2 was a great update to the first game and they put a LOT of races into the core game which was fantastic. But they could have improved a few things (like skrimish setups and such) before moving on.

Bought Gladius for $10 with the discount. Seems worth $10.

Tried Underworlds and Titanicus. Jesus Christ...

Got my issue today, noticed the Munitorum manual isn't made from the latest pdf.

So Drukhari Reavers is back to 10 points per model as this is technically newer than the pdf errata online

There are omissions from the Manual also.

The selection on Leman Russes is incomplete. Death Guard are missing ALL their vehicles. There are likely many other errors sadly. I only know the ones I find, and would have no clue as to how to recognise mistakes in factions I do not collect. Maybe the entire Manual is riddled with such errors. At least its a temporary document, not a Codex, so you can pen corrections in without 'ruining' a book.
