I’m on the Vyper bandwagon Definitely.

Close joint second for me go to the FW Hornet, and the humble Predator. I’ve always liked how the marine rhino chassis stuff actually looked like a family of vehicles trading certain aspects off to focus on other aspects.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

When people say land raider or predator, which version do they mean, I prefer 1st edition predator over 2nd and 3rd edition. Land raider the current kit is a fave but the new upcoming version of the original is going to give it a run for its money.

The first tank I ever got for 40k was this thing. In comparison, the current Land Raider is an absolute marvel of design and aesthetics.

I just wish it didn't suck in the game. It's been a long time since Land Raiders were the kings of the battlefield...

I liked having one in my army, I enjoyed how much it annoyed my mate who could not kill it. But hated painting it. HATED. And building wasn’t much fun. Once it was built and painted, very nice. The new is a hell of a build and paint model though. Enjoyed that a lot.

They should be the pinnacle of tank in the game. They are not.

Honestly I love the original Land Raider. It's got some of that classic sci-fi strangeness about it, like part moon rover, part tank. Once it's had a little extra love put into it I prefer it over the redux. Both are fantastic.

In Epic Armageddon they were actually really good, iirc.

I sometimes ran an army with 4 in it during 4th edition. Massive skew list obviously, but sometimes it worked real well because anything under S8 couldnt hurt the army (I could put everything else in the army into the LRs).

Custom build using the Melta bit from the old Sisters Immolator, I think.

Penitent Engines! Nail some guy into a gigantic torture device, hand him a buzzsaw, and send him towards the enemy? Just amazing!

But as we seem to be going more tank-y, I'd probably have to say the Megatrakk Scrapjet. That thing is just bad-arse!

Shame I can't go with any other Sisters tanks. Even with considerable bling, the Rhino chassis remains a potato.

Do Kastellan Robots count? If not, the Skaven Doomwheel.

‘What Lorgar’s fanatics have not seen is that these gods are nothing compared to the power and the majesty of the Machine-God. Already, members of our growing cult are using the grace of the Omnissiah – the true Omnissiah, not Terra’s false prophet – to harness the might of the warp. Geller fields, warp missiles, void shields, all these things you are familiar with. But their underlying principles can be turned to so much more. Through novel exploitations of these technologies we will gain mastery first over the energies of the empyrean, then over the lesser entities, until finally the very gods themselves will bend the knee and recognise the supremacy of the Machine-God"

As for the order of release, the Vyper was introduced in WD207 alongside the SM Attack Bike, the Falcon in 216, and the Fire Prism in 219. The normal Bikes must have been before the Attack Bike, although I can't find the WD at the moment.

I don't know how well known it is, but there were actually two SM bike styles before the plastic one. A sort of klunky, spiky one, and then a slimmer one with wings.

Eldar Jetbikes were released in plastic (they had metal models earlier) in WD178 at the same time as the Leman Russ tank. The plastic SM bike was was released in WD201.

My favourite vehicle was the plastic dreadnoughts that came after the metal ones. Those metal ones literally fell apart under their own weight.

Once upon a time, in the long long ago, back before the Great GW Embargo, us Aussies were able to order from overseas. And so we did, seeking out the best prices, which was usually the UK, because their prices were literally half ours (after currency conversion).

One such place was Maelstrom Games, who discounted everything as well. Paying UK retail would'a been fine, but they took even more off. Getting things for 35-45% the cost of buying it in Oz was fantastic. Additionally, they had a scaling discount system, so the more you purchased, the higher the discount got. Maelstrom, I believe, eventually morphed into Mierce Miniatures I through some weirdness and some level of shadiness - but by then we couldn't order from them anyway so I stopped paying attention - but they did one other thing that made them the store of choice: Free shipping on all orders, regardless of size! So half the price of Oz, plus discounts, and free shipping? Why would I order anywhere else?

So I was putting together an order, as part of a sale, and it said if I added a certain amount more the discount would be higher. I didn't think it would work given I was using a discount code for the sale, but tested it out just to see. It didn't work, so I went back, finished what I was doing, and completed the order. What I forgot was that I had added a Land Raider as part of that price test, but forgot to remove it! So I got the confirmation, and, well, I accidentally a whole Land Raider!

This was part three of my "3 Things that Show You Have Too Much Stuff" proof:

1. Sit down to make 20 Beakie Assault Marines and somehow end up with 30.
2. Purchase something but lose it for long enough to be convinced that maybe you only thought you bought it.
3. Accidentally buy a Land Raider.

Did all three...

I might actually have to say the Tau Hammerhead. I like how it looks sleek and futuristic as a total opposite of all the chunky boxiness of Imperial vehicles. That being said, I also love the Sicaran. I can't wait for the plastic kit to come out so I can finally get one.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Penitent engine is fine, you don’t have to go tanks, it seems like boxy dreads are coming out with a lot of votes. I am loving the variety of vehicles people are choosing, some I would never have thought would be peoples favourites.

I have a soft spot for most Ork vehicles, but the Deff Dread is the quintessential Ork vehicle for me. Such a good looking model.

I'd also say the old box Dreadnought is a close second.

Those three still look great, are iconic to the setting and there hasn't really been better looking vehicles in 40K proper.

If we add 30K I'd say the Leviathan and Thanatar Siege Automata (not really sure if it's a vehicle ). Those two are my favourite big stompy robots and look much better than Knights.
