And yes, while this one movie will be fun. It does look like some of the best DCEU has had to offer. It's... nothing. It's not going to link to anything. It's not going to carry forward. This is one more movie in the Snyder verse that is circling the drain while they drag their feet on a reboot.

I really don't need it to link to anything though. I'd rather have a good movie than worry about what carries forward. The focus on that over making good films in the first place is what has doomed so many cinematic universe projects from the get go. If we never see these characters again, but the movie itself is great and memorable, it'll be worth far more than say, something the likes of Iron Man 2.

I agree that an individual movie that is good is worth its own value. But DC/WB want more. They want to build out this universe. This movie only exists because building out their universe was the plan.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Despite superficial lip service about killing people, I worry they are taking BA to far away from villain, or even anti-hero, to keep Johnson likable.

For example in the comics his nephew shared his power with him, such as Captain Marvel did with his family, and then BA killed his nephew to keep the power for himself. In the trailer his son is presented as sacrificing himself which leads to him gaining his powers. Now it could be misdirection, but I have my doubts. I'm sure I'll still see it.

Yeah, I’m gonna guess that DJ doesn’t want to play a character as dark as the comics BA. Who was really just a straight-up villain before he did his semi-face turn. Moreover, I doubt WB/DC wants a hero - anti or otherwise - who murders family members. That just means more DC grimdark memes and such.

But it’s not like Marvel didn’t change a number of their characters for the movies. Tony Stark wasn’t funny, likeable, sober, monogamous, or a core character in the comics.

Each time they write a story they re-imagine characters. Heck original Batman used guns and yet now he's famous for being totally anti-gun in how he operates.

Change isn't really a problem but more of a question of "to what degree are things changed". It might work out fine but I'm still trepidatious. I imagine for mass audience unfamiliar with the character this will not be an issue in the slightest. For people familiar with comic character ymmv.

He’s an interesting character to me. In the animated Superman/Shazam movie he’s a straight villain. More often in stuff Ive seen he’s ruler of his country, and usually seems to honestly do/want to do right by them, though in the most harsh way he can. He tends to make a far better contrast to Superman in the comics with the willing to kill and leave a wake of destruction thing than the movies where the heroes don’t really seem to have an issue with doing that themselves.

The bigger issue is if Black Adam isn't a villain/anti-hero... then why do we have 2 Shazams? If he is JUST a good guy then at that point it's literally 2 people with the exact same power set doing the exact same things. Not one is weaker than the other. Or more powerful in some ways and weaker in others (supergirl and superman). Their personalities don't impact their powers (like the various green lanturns). He and Shazam are literally exactly the same.

How.... boring.

Agreed. He is kind of a DC Dr Doom in the running his country kind of thing.

That was an excellent short.

Apparently this is a spinoff of Shazam, which I haven't seen yet, but is a prequel so I'm guessing that its entirely its own film...

I might give it a shot.

Shazam is fantastic. Far better than it had any right to be.

Then on that recommendation I'll have to give a butchers.
