I'm sure that some of this is to make way for Primaris versions of these kits, like Scouts, but Tech-Marines and Land Speeders? Bikes? Surprised at those. I've never seen a Hunter/Stalker in real life... can't exactly buy one either. Already out of stock and can't find a single store that has one. Haighus wrote:The writing was on the wall when 8th dropped, but the Primaris Terminators were the real death knell.
You say that, but the amount of gak that was thrown at me when I suggested that when Primaris Marines first appeared still pisses me off. I was right. Completely right. 100% right. Because of course I fething was. And everyone who doubted me and attacked me knows it. HA! If I sound mad about this, it's because I am.

Company Command box, sort of? The captain in it is 6th-5th ed era, but the rest of the box is 3rd ed. Even has the old "Snip off the handle, slide the gun on the hand" type system.
In one of the older videos Valrak said that a multipart chapter command box was on the way for the codex release, maybe there is something to that... ideally they prune back the ridiculous number of SM character datasheets while they're at it...

Throwing Land Speeders and Assault squads into Legends when the SM Codex drops feels bitter, NGL
Looks like 10th edition is the last edition for me in that case. Maybe I'll just play Chaos Cultists after 10th, or stop 40K entirely and just switch to playing KT21 & Epic Imperialis as my "currently supported" games. Which is kind of how I started playing 40K too I suppose (was into Epic but had a few odd 40K models).
In my world, you dont mess with the classic SM units - tacs, devs, assault, drop pods, land speeders, rhinos/predators/land raiders, terminators, scouts.. The rest of em arent classics so they can go, but dont touch the classics FFS

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Why would they make rules for the index...just to squat the models a month later? Seems like it would have been a lot easier to start 10th with those models in legends. Oh it also prevents people from wasting time buying/building/painting/playtesting using models, expecting a 3 year shelf life, only for them to get removed from the army a month later.

All the specialist stuff as well.
TWC, Wulfen, Stormwolf, Stormfang, special Wulf-Termies, Dark Angels Termies, Sang. Guard, Death Company, buckets of special characters, etc.., etc.. The entire Grey Knights range, if you count them.
And Centurions, as mentioned.

Surprised more aren't on the list to be honest, unless they are waiting to cull more when kits are announced, such as terminator assault squads.

Sort of leads me to believe they took the poll/results/vote seriously when they did the nid preview. This would be a lot easier to manage and communicate if Marines had won...

I have a feeling they are trying to manage the community backlash, however not many players are still playing with firstborn now.
Additionally, it is GW, they want to shift their stock backlog.

Tossing assault while keeping tactical and devastator fields weird to me. Especially after all the complaints about the vanguard datasheet. And the upcoming HH kit.
Assault squads are part of the trinity.
I get the stalker/hunter since it was an overly specific answer to flyer spam after flyer spam had mostly passed.
Outriders as a replacement for bike squads just doesn't work (completely different role and organization), and the lack of any real analogue for land speeders makes retiring that kit weird (especially for dark angels. I wonder what's going to happen to Ravenwing when their codex rolls around next year. That company is basically gutted with these removals)
endlesswaltz123 wrote:Surprised more aren't on the list to be honest, unless they are waiting to cull more when kits are announced, such as terminator assault squads.
There... aren't actually that many baseline 'firstborn' units. Most of the bloat is chapter-specific snowflakes and the weirdly redundant primaris 'I-name' units.

Needed breathing room between "Surprise! it's all power level!" and "Surprise! 40% of your 20+ year marine collection is dead!"
My guess is what's left is only around because they have a warehouse full of them. That and the available stock on newer kits is so low, you wouldn't be able to start a marine army if you wanted to without them.

Eating crow isn't something they're well known for. I suspect they'll be dodging this thread while they're huffing copium.
But yeah, the writing was 100% on the wall, just surprised it took this long to see more of them being upfront in retiring them. Won't be sad to see the scouts gone, their pumpkin heads were one of the things that put me off from starting Black Templars many years back. Does suck for people who stuck out with their firstborn army, but it really is impossible to maintain the absurd amount of units for SM right now.

It’s about time, the kits are ancient and it must baffle newbies coming into the hobby, and we know GW is all all about newbies.
All the stuff will be available through 30k as others have said. I’ve built a very nice 2nd edition old marine army entirely from 30k plastics. Love it and it looks so much bette than those old models.

I think that applies to GW specifically as well. They will do something dumb, spend years dancing around the blowout of the dumb thing, only to finally fix it by doing something even dumber. These kind of hard calls are always easier if you take the lumps early and are honest about it.
They need to be honest about Tac Squads and Devastators having a shelf life going forward. Everybody knows it. Just say it. Spare us the die hard defenders who are going to try and gaslight us into thinking it's not going to happen.

Which is why they're going to be given a Primaris equivalent (and also because they were shown in the Space Marine 2 game trailers)

HBMC was right and it was obvious I haven't bought a firstborn since 8th(outside horus heresy) because of course they where removing them.
Not sure I had my account set up then as a lurked a long time before joining the conversation. But I remember the 200 plus page news and rumors thread and the back and forth threads of of everyone arguing about if they where on the way out or not.
Glad it's finally settled and it dident take 20 years. First born are done grab a kit if you like the looks but it's over now time to admit it.
Honestly I'm glad. the slow boil thing grinds my gears as they have had this goal since 8th and just pushing it slowly so people won't be outraged it really reminds me of what's happening in the world all around us see what is happening around you. Stop fighting people who are promoting awareness. Start fighting those slowly boiling you.

So sad to see so many space marine kits go the way of the dodo.
My slow grow badad war projects get harder to complete all the time. Luckily managed to pick a couple of bits up today before they went out of production.
All of my hobby spending this year seems to have been on grabbing stuff before its gone forever. None of it has been excitingly picking up new releases.
Not sure if thats a sad sign of the state of the hobby, or my age!

Imagine walking into a GW store, looking at a wall of Primaris kits, and THAT's your Space Marine range... Mario Karts, Stubbers, Matrix APU's (which at this point the young newbie won't get the reference) and three-man Land Speeders, Floating Starcraft Guys, Belly Guys and NERF Launcher squads with tacti-cool teams..
Deleting the old Space Marine range is the worst decision GW will ever make.

Isn't the implication that Vanguard Vets/Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs (or whatever they end up being called) are coming soon? IE they are dumping assault marines because the Primaris equivalent will be released. No doubt at some point there will be more direct Primaris equivalents of the Tac and Devastator marines as well to justify their removal.

Hardly surprising.
The Techmarine has a Primaris version
The Land Speeders have a Primaris version
The Assault Squad has a Primaris version
The Dreadnought(s) have a Primaris version
The Librarian has a Primaris version
The Command Squad has several Primaris versions
Bikes have a Primaris version
Scouts are soon to have a Primaris version
The Stalker never really had a role in the first place

I do agree the older stuff just needed upscale a lot of the primaris range looks rediculas. Especially the desolatiors (nerf gun guys), the supressors (the flying guys with rediculasly big gun). Inceptors (with the silly drop withought a pod stiff as heck look) most stuff in Gravis armor, all the tanks..... You know maybe it would be easier the say the things that look good. Basic troops and a lot of the characters both named and unnamed. Outriders look OK but I wish they would have bad them actually drivable off road.
