Hmm.

I would say in terms of aesthetic appreciation, personally? Probably the Aspect Warriors.

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

Hiding from Florida-Man.

I have to amend my previous statement.

The best model to convey ultimate badassery is the RT era Marneus Calgar.

He doesn't need his cloak, his helmet, or heck, he doesn't even ln need to stand up to kick some serious butt in the universe

The dark behind the eyes.

In terms of rules?

The Corsair Prince, without a doubt.

Absolutely fantastic unit that was a near-perfect mix of flavour and function, with a plethora of customisation options. In addition to a selection of wargear from both Craftworlds and Dark Eldar, he also had the First Prince rule. This gave the Prince a choice of rules, each of which could then be bought by other units/characters in your army. e.g. Survivor of the Endless Darkness gave the Prince FNP and IWND, and allowed other characters to purchase FNP for 10pts each. Alternatively, Traveller of Forgotten Paths gave him Dep Strike and let him place Webway Gates. Other characters could purchase the same for 25pts each.

In addition to letting you customise your Prince, it helped emphasise that the army was based around the Prince's desire/specialty.

Naturally, this great HQ lasted all of 1 edition before being purged from all GW rulebooks, as it was deemed to have exceeded the maximum fun quota.

Fixed that for you. You're allowed unlimited gold plated platinum fun so long as it's good ol fashion xenophobic human power fantasy fun. Heaven forfend you trying to have fun in your dirt grade GW membership.

The Entire Necromunda Range.

All of it. Every last one.

To zoom in on one Imperial world and continue to expand its crazy aesthetic is just Chef’s Kiss.

Also, a very quick aCkShuAlLy on the Eldar Corsair Prince, as it also existed in the 2nd Ed Codex. Was pretty fighty, and could take a load of Wargear Cards making it even more Fighty. Downside was you had to buy them a squad of Corsairs to join.

What amazes me with stealers is how they've hardly changed from their very early models. Sure they've gained some additional details here and there and there was that one generation with scything blades. But in general they've stuck so very true to their original designs whilst so much else in the Tyranid line has changed over the years.

Outside of 40k, I have a deep love for absolutely everything about Mangler squigs and that empty armor figure is technically incredible. AoS in general has some truly ambitious models.

In 40k, pretty much every Ork vehicle ever is fantastic. I'm also fond of the poor git being sucked into the Shock Attack Gun. The new kit for the Lion is also 100% my thing.

Unarmed, flying metal box!

Growing up watching Star Trek TOS and Battlestar Galactica I always felt shuttles should be flying boxes and GW just took it to the natural conclusion.

The fact I already made like a dozen Arvii does nothing to stop my from wanting a dozen more.

Wait, I won one of these [in 2009] from a GW battle bunker, and it didn't have a door gunner!

Isn't FW supposed to be better that the eventual GW plastic?

I'd like to give honorable mentions to the RT era tactical squad and devastator squad, because they too could have jump packs and not just the assault squad. Because I think it would be cool to see a devastator squad with jump packs.

I did not know that, that's rad.
I've always wanted just basic Marines with bolters, special weapons and Jump Packs, but hey, throw some Heavies in there for good measure.

I refute your claim with Thallax.

The best unit choice evar.
Why? A troop choice with jetpack, heavy weapons, relentless, augments (deepstrike in ZM, tank hunters, skyfire or rage+rending melee), 3 wounds, T5, Bs4, stubborn, meltabombs, MLR or Triaros DT, cohorts of 3-9, 2A base...

Your compulsory troops are no match, sir.

I actually like them.

I assume they are not firing on the wing, but use the JPs to reposition to superior vantage points, land and brace to fire, then move on to the next point. Leapfrogging to keep up with rapid marine advances.

Being fast and jump gives them the time to set up and keep up with the rest of the force, and reach the upper levels of ruins to get good lines of fire.

i've always been neutral on suppressors, but this is a good read for it. makes sense for how they'd be used in gameplay, too, since they have to stop and set up for the heavy rule

i also have a bit of affection for the design because they remind me a bit of the mages from Youjo Senki

Oh that fixes them for me, thanks. I always imagined them firing while flying, bouncing around in random directions from the recoil. The leapfrogging thing is actually pretty cool.

Of all the investor designs the suppressors look the least dumb. They look more coherent.

They function like jump dragoons

Sometimes a change in viewpoint can do wonders. For example, when I stopped thinking about Stormtalons as fighter jets, and more as attack helicopters (And not nice ones either, but brutal cold war era ones) I warmed up to them a lot more.

I’m going to second Thallaxi.

Rules entirely aside, being another development of Power Armour, we’re given a glimpse of what could’ve been.

And the underreported on lore, which I swear I’m not making up, that they were of particular use against Daemons.

Where a human might go insane in the face of Daemons, and an Automata would only register anomalous readings, Thallaxi were far removed enough from both states of existence to be able to properly process and combat such a threat.

I have to say a word about the ships from Space Fleet (1991).

They basically came in two flavors, the flying cathedrals that became the design basis of Battlefleet Gothic, and these graceful flying daggers that GW never followed up on.

Just gorgeous ships, fun to paint, fun to convert, great to look at.

10/10 would buy a ton more.

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

vex machinator, reason I ordered one first thing after finally starting a chaos marine faction, always really liked the thing.
apparently its a serious threat in games too with its whopping range and cc options for its generic and cheapest loadout.

fantasy battles I always liked the way the chaos dwarves looked, oldworld will probably not retain that look.. sigh.. but we will see.

aos I think the best looking unit of everything is the bastiladon of the seraphon, but the chaos warbeast chariot and cities Hydra also are faves of mine.
Oh and those floppy disposessed copters, got two of those (steam and the other one) because of how much I like em.

Now that I think of it, when it comes to the craftworlds, I have always loved the warwalkers.
