What up im new to the hobby and yer eldar have inspired me to finally buy models for my own army.

Also since this is gonna be my first army any ideas what i should start out?

Zacho. I'm pretty experienced with eldar and i can give you some tip.

The first thing when you start an army is to pick a hero and 2 troops:

Eldar players usually goes with a Farseer or an Autarch. (Farseer is the most common way tho)

The autarch is an exelent fighter, and have alot of options to cutomize him the way you wanna play him. Hes really good in both close combat and ranged combat (depending on what gear your giving him)

The Farseer is an exelent support unit, having powerful psychic abilitys. According to me, the farseer is the best psychic hero in the entire game. Hes not good in close combat, but he can defend himself if he have to.

There is spefific heroes (unique heroes) like Eldrad ulthran, the phoenix lords, prince yriel and the Avatar, but i woulden't suggest using them at start. It's both easier and more fun to start with non unique heroes.

Now you have a choise. What playstyle will do you have? The eldars most common playstyle is the Mechanised army and the foot army:

Im playing mechanised. And i must say, that the way i like to play! You have all your infantery in vehicles and depend on flexability, timing and speed.
Common units in the Mech eldar army are.

Falcons: Good flexible firesupport. I recommend having a farseer inside to guide it's poor BS 3. Also having 5 dire avenger will be a good option to give extra protection against foot units trying to assault the falcon. (also makes the falcon a scoring units which is good in objective games.)

Wave serpent. The eldar troop transport. It's a very good transport. Since it's a skimmer, it can both fly and move very fast. It has a good selection of arnaments, and can take alot of damage due to energy shields and good armor value. Very important in a eldar mech army. also a good carry capacity.

Dire avengers: 10 Avengers with a exarch with dual catapults and bladestorm is a awesome infanteri killer.
When they use bladestorm they will unleash 28 str 4, ap 5 shoots that hits on 3+ and 4 str 4, ap 5 shots that hits on 2+ into the enemy, there is not much that can survive that hehe. Have 10 of them in a waveserpent, Fly them so their in range to the enemy, jump out. Unleash a str 4 hell on the enemy, next turn jump into the waveserpent and let them reload. And then repeat. Add a farseer with doom to that and you may reroll the failed wound rolls if you face high thoughness units. Their also troop units which is good.

Storm guardians might be fun to use to!

Firedragons are probally the best tank killer there is. Have 5 of them in a waveserpent. Fly them close to a tank, jump out and shoot 5 str 8, ap 1 shots that rolls 2 dice to armor penetration. Not even the landraider stand a chance against that.

Banshees: makes a good powerarmor killer if nessesary. They will need a farseer with doom if you want them to be able to abomplish something. Their kinda weak (str 3)

Vypers: a good way to play vypers according to me is to play 3 of them in a squad, having only scatterlasers. Next to them a farseer with guide and a jetbike and some jetguardians to protect him. they will be able to shoot 12, str 6, ap 6 shots that hit on 4+ (you may reroll misses if you have the farseer helping using guide). Thats good versus light tanks and infantery of all kind.

Prismcannon/nightspinner: Good backbone fire, The prism cannon is good against well, anything. And the spinner is really good versus infantery.

ofc there is more units to use for the mech army, i just pointed out my favorites

There is also the foot eldar army which im not very familiar with.

a good hero would be the avatar.
Your troops would be guardian defenders mostly and wraithguards.
Your vehicles will mostly be War walkers, wraithlords (not a vechicle tho) and maybe falcons.

Keep in mind, the eldars are really expensive and squishy. most of the units only have T3, so be really careful when you use them and make sure you get out as much as possible of your units. When you play with eldar, you play to win. Your a supreme race. Your better than everyone else. your enemies are no match to you!

But ofc, your free to play however you wish! Iv'e just given you some examples and inspirations in how you CAN play the eldars.

Skink archers are done & based (pic below). Am pretty happy with them - have just started on a squad of Saurians. Next up will be the Orks - I promise! Happy gaming & painting to everyone out there...

Decided to start on the Saurian warriors instead of the Orks. Staying with the coloring for the Magical Saurus of Tepok I'd used for the Skink archers. Have WIP pics below - scale bits are done (shading), one pic is pre-wash and the second is post-wash; then will have to do the shields, mouths/teeth, and eyes. Hope that folks approve thus far! After being on around 12,000 pointish iv'e stopped buying Eldars, and started looking into the LOTRO strategy battle game. Got the rulebook and a small force of Gondor soldiers i'm ready to take my force to battle and change the fate of middle earth!

The game really look intresting tho..

Also started playing fantasy (again). this time i'm trying to build a skaven army. Got my codex and a skaven warlord yesterday. yay!

My recent activities in 40K have been a 5000pts and a 3000pts apocalypse game. Both won by the Eldar corsairs ofc (me)

In the 5000 points game i had the opportunity to use my apoc scorpion grav tank.
It manage to take down 2 imperial Baneblades and 3 leman russ battletanks. And withstood alot of enemy fire without even taking a scratch. Woho for the supreme techology of the eldars!

Another WIP pic for the Saurians. Since this pic has been taken, the tongues/mouths/teeth have been done, and the shields are near completion. Should have final pic posted within next 1-2 days. Then, on to the Orks (finally)!!!

Great job! those bring me waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the old days of GW!

Ta-Daaaaaah! Saurian Warrior squad is now finished. I guess they're old models - not sure which, since I'm not really a Lizardman player - just thought they looked cool so I bought them to paint. May end up selling them on eBay, if there would be any takers. Hope you all enjoy. Next on the block will definitely be the Ork boyz - will be doing them primarily in blue since I hear that's a favored Ork color. Will probably switch around the shade of blue, and will do some yellow or orange accents on them. Have to see what all models are in the battle set box, and will go from there. May be a few weeks, or I may do some WIP pics... Have a great weekend, everybody!

OK, fellow Dakkanauts, I most SINCERELY apologize for not having posted in over a month. Have been a bit busy. I did manage to get my Wraithseer (he's completed, see individual pics below as well as one with the rest of the Wraithlords & 2 Wraithguard squads), which makes me happy. Unfortunately, was not able to use him last weekend - couldn't make it to an apoc game. Hope to be able to use him soon. Started on the Orks for the FLGS - Koptas are ~50% completed, rest of the guys are just primed. Have to say I've got a bit of a "painting block" with them - probably because I'm so used to doing the Eldar and the more colorful Lizardmen. In any case, may be another few weeks before I get the 'kopta pics posted, but they WILL be the next thing to show up. Hope everyone will approve on my new adventure with the greenskins. Take it easy, and happy painting!

You don't have to use him in Apoc. He is allowed in normal games also.

I know. He & the WG would be a huge point sink in a regular game, though - may use him sometime just for fun, but can't help but imagine the glory of seeing a Wraith horde on the table for an apoc game! Sigh...

OK, Dakka fiends! I've FINALLY finished the Ork Deffkoptas! I know, took me over a month to do them. Hope no one minds that I did the one guy in a pink shirt - thought it would be a little different, and since I'm a girl thought it would be fun (for those of you who didn't know that I WAS female). Will slowly get started on the rest of the Orks in the Battle Box set, so things will be coming back again. Pics aren't the best - had to take them on my phone, since I can't find my camera right now. Also took the pics without the koptas on their bases, hope y'all don't mind. Will post better pics once I DO find my camera....

Better pics of the Koptas - got a replacement camera yesterday (previous one was lost). Started casting some Eldar jetbikes & pieces I needed to complete a Vyper - once that's ready, will start priming & painting & will have 2 of 'em. Will be missing some riders, but at least I'll have the "bones" of them ready to field. Got the casting supplies from alumilite.com - lightweight resin, nice stuff but I HATE the bubbles that have been forming. End up using green stuff to fill the holes, so it's taking a lot longer. Also have my eye on getting some more stuff - another Fire Prism, and perhaps some more Forge World tanks. Some of you guys have recommended fielding 2 Prisms together (because of the linked abilities with firing). Might be nice to use against some tanks I've faced in the past with 14 armor, especially those that are "immune" to the lance rule (I assume that the prism weapon is not a lance, correct me if I'm wrong please). Haven't played a game in months, and am itching to get back into the swing of things again. Nasty work schedule has made it impossible...

Hey! I'm BAAAAAAAAACK! Sorry it's been such a long time since my last post, but I've been working my butt off. Finished my Vypers - had to cast & adapt some pieces for an old broken Vyper I'd gotten on eBay, and then assembled a new one sent by a friend. Only piece I still need to get for the old one is the clear canopy for the cockpit in front. Then had to mold & cast the Guardians for the old Vyper - took me a little while before I had that done; also decided to make extra Guardians fob the Jetbikes I'd completed a while back. Am still assembling all of them. Now I need to get back to the Orks (sigh)... ;-)

OK - Guardians are now done & on the Jetbikes. Pics below (some witt the Vypers en masse). Hope everyone approves! Orks, here I come now...

Hey, everybody! Sorry I've been neglecting this for so long - have been TOO busy with work & my bf. Am currently putting together two Wasp Assault Walkers, and am trying (thus far not very successfully) to mold some more Wraith guys. Trying to decide whether to do axes, D-cannons, or swords. Also got some more flying tanks - looking forward to getting them started after I'm done with all the resin moldings. Will post the messy table top with all the resin bits within a day or two... :-)

Wraithknight is being assembled - lower body started (started with painting, as well). Am annoyed because I'm out of my Vallejo Bonewhite, and it seems it's on back order EVERYWHERE. Grrrrrrrr. Don't want to put it all together without being able to have all the tricky bits painted. Oh well, at least I can do the black w/shading, the metal bits, and the gems! Yay! Might use him in a game next month. C'mon, Vallejo - unless someone knows if there's another shade identical to it!

Hey, everyone. I finished basing the Wraithknight - for the most part; just bought a Chaplain I'm a-gonna soften & drape across a log on the base - so that'll probably be another 2-3 weeks before that's completed. I'm also a bit discouraged that I used magnets too small to allow proper holding of the arm with the Ghostglaive - and it's gonna be a bear to get the smaller one out & re-bore for the larger magnet. Will probably just keep using him as is for a while. Also finished Illic Nightspear - am using him in a doubles tourney this weekend. Will be an odd mix - I'm using 2 units of Pathfinders with Illic, my Wraithknight, and a unit of Scorpions. And I'm teaming up with a guy playing Necrons! I figure Illic will just have enough balls to put his Hatred on ice for the game. To make it proper for the story line, however, I might just see if I can take out his HQ last shooting turn of the last game. Figure I can post it here because I doubt he follows my blog. Will make sense if Illic would do that, eh?

Yeah, I still have a pile of Orks to finish painting, don't know why I still have such a block against working on them. I've got more Eldar I can work on - a Wraithfighter, more Wraithguard, more Walkers, and more Guardians. Was thinking about possibly stripping some units I painted early on, but decided against - they're reminders of how far I've come with my painting. This is also the reason I'm not gonna base earlier models as well.

Well, enough blabbing for now - will get pic of my Wraithknight & his peeps this afternoon. Am taking the pics with my iPad, so if they post sideways again my apologies in advance! Happy painting, everyone...

Oh dear. Sorry I've been away for so long - was busy with work. Am trying now to get back to painting & getting more games in. I just finished a Crimson Hunter yesterday (he did well in my game last night), pic below. Am also working on a Wasp Assault Walker. Hopefully will get him posted within a week. Will get better pics eventually once I find my large white sheet of paper! Oy...

Am almost finished with the Wasp Assault Walker. Am also working on a Hornet & another Wave Serpent - hope to have them done in a few days. I also have a unit of Shadow Spectres primed - am trying to figure out how to make them look interesting yet still Ulthwe; also have to make all their left arms out of Green stuff (bought the unit on eBay in pieces, arms weren't included). Will finish the Skimmers with satin varnish - like it better for them than the matte I'd used previously.
