I would've had these finished two days ago, but I've had computer's to fix (which I failed at, but can't be arsed mucking about with much more this week). Here I present a batch of homely country folk for your perusal (and err, my cataloguing- without this blog I'd forget just what everything I've made is meant to be). I'd hoped to finish off a bit of fencing too that goes with some WIP allotments, but time's been against me there. I'll see about having them up in my next terrain update.

Wastelanders
Wasteland Militia

(Empress Miniatures Chechen Rebels)
Empress make some great models. Pitty they don't sell the weapon sprues that come with them. Their Chechen range work well as post apocalyptic survivors (though where are all the Borz!?).

( Musketeer British Militia Command)
Oddly designed models. They seem rather pulpy to find them in the historical section of my flgs. I'll have to look out for this range at the next show methinks. Yes, that is a guy riding roller skates.

(Artizan S.A.S. Long Range Desert Group)
I painted up these guys to look like ex-NCR servicemen, perhaps to infer that they're retired soldiers or deserters. Now there's a scenario...

A miss mash of homesteaders serve to defend the settlements of the wasteland. Oft ranging from from well disciplined mercenaries, to farmers who've never shot their pipe rifles at anything larger than a rad roach. In any case though they serve often as a township's only defence against ransackers and worse.

This lot works as those unaligned individuals outside of the big factions I've been putting together. I set them out as township inhabitants, but really they could work as traders, scavengers, mercenaries, or the like.

WIP Mercenary (Sergeant?)

Something I threw together after a bit of inspiration hit. I don't know whether he's unique, or there could be a couple of other guys suited up similarly to him. It'd be nice to have a squad of mercs for games (and finally someone for Red Racer to throw herself in with).I'll paint him up like the G22 from Alpha Protocol (which is an excellent game btw. It has Mass Effect's branching story system, but with spies, and written by Bioware ~ Chris Avellone fap, fap, fap. Go play it. I'll wait). Hmn... I actually have some Empress guys that look just like G22. I could stick together a squad of them for 7TV come to think of it. *off topic =P

A pair of die cast scout cars that were bought today too. Quality wise their probably not the best, but I hardly care (with an inch of rust who's going to care about the little bits and bobs?). I'm thinking one for the NCR and another as part of a caravan.

I picked up another lot of second hand stuff there. Cherry picking what to do next, I think I'll have a go at some robots. I already have a few soldier bots half painted on my desk, but along with those some Securitron type bots, a pair of soldier style ones, and little scuttery things may turn up. One of the scutters (they actually have legs, so no, they aren't the Scutters from Red Dwarf sadly) also happens to have a head which resembles a Floating Eye Bot from the original games quite a bit, which I went "squee!" at just a little. So I may try a conversion of that into one of those forgotten bots.

After those its either paint up what I still have unpainted or be silly and make more models. Hmn... I'd like to finish up my NCR Cavalry, but I'm probably better off giving one of the other factions some new recruits. Perhaps with all those robots wondering about their minders may make an appearance. I haven't painted up any Enclave Remnants haven't made much of an appearance since the first page of this thread...

Ah, updates may come a bit slower than my usual couple that I make near the end of the week. My class schedule's changed and I'm soon to be given a couple of projects to work on (with the requisite mountain of documentation to complete for each), so I'll have to judge how much time I can spent goofing on once I've given it all a look over. Anyhow, toodle pip folks. *and yeah, most of you probably have work that's a million times more involved than my silly second year college systems. ^^'

Here's something I've been pondering. Its fluff, but it'll affect how I paint my Enclave figures. Are the Enclave racist? I mean not just against those damn dirty Commies. No, I mean are they against all non-Caucasian (and even then just American Caucasians)? The Fallout universe is a reflection on real world 1950's ideals, so the Enclave itself may be reiterating the then hard line elements of the US government at the time in a similar way to how they oppressed African Americans. In Fallout 2 you couldn't see which race any of the Enclave were. In New Vegas however Judah Kreger, a former captain in the Enclave, is an African American. So... Over time do you think they loosened their restrictions on race, or were they there at all in the first place?

...I think I need Chris Avellone in here.

Ah right. ...Here's a WIP of some Enclave Troopers in Advanced Power Armour Mk1. They're still short of a bit of greenstuff and reshaping (those arms look iffy). I'd prefer to have them all helmeted, but that'd mean recasting Vinni's heads, or sculpting my own ones. =/

I found those in a drawer with about two dozen identical toys. The whole shop was full of die casts. That pair were the cheapest I could find (who cares about a bit of scratched paint), but there were better quality ones in cabinets (left open) going for about £15 each. I can imagine how much Dinky toys go for, but here I can think of at least six second hand traders that have shops/stalls full of the things (as in there's two holes in the wall at the flea market where the walls/floor are just covered). Pity of course that kids back in the 50's/whatever didn't want to play with foreign vehicles so much. There's plenty of Western toys about, but I suppose nobody's parent's want them playing with any Russian BMPs or BTRs. =/

...That said, and to my annoyance, I was told that not last year that shop had procured Russians kid's toys, but they'd all been sold by now. I wonder what kind of level of detail they had. ...And the lead content.

Sculpting new arms for some of the robots, and the thought of making those Floating Eye Bots is depressing me at the moment (well actually I just can't be bothered with the effort). So I'll see about painting up some terrain and maybe some vehicles after that before I work on the Robots/Enclave. I have a stack of 15mm shipping containers and barrels handy, which of course you'll all find ever so exciting to oggle at instead of the men with laser guns. ^^'

Ah, and the KV and Stug have been worked on a bit. They'll be eventually posted when I can decide what to bung them in with faction wise (the Raiders have guys in Police riot armour and Powder Gangers made up,whilst the Chinese Remnants ...will have something. ...Ah right I have a T-34 for them- with optional laser cannon like the KV, or I'll turn it into an APC), that is when I make my way around to sticking the rest of the tracks on the KV (I've seriously added stowage and battle damage to the thing before those. They're just that horrible to put together. Damn you Hobbyboss!).

The Enclave are against any non Americans, and also any one with the slightest hints of mutations, hence the scheme to pollute the water with the variant FFV virus that will kill all in the wasteland with mutation due to the radiation exposure.

Oh yes, but I'm not asking that. I'm pondering whethering the Enclave is a mirror of cultural attitudes back in the 50s that places anyone who wasn't white (excluding Jews, Italians, Irish, etc of course) as a second class citizen. I'm supposing no, at least for practical reasons, and to avoid flack on the part of the developers (though the original Fallout games didn't have quite the level of racism that Fallout 3 did, so maybe the point's moot to Obsidian).

yeah, seems they went a lot of 40k as in humans are superior, kill all muties, not the cheap racism of the 50's nitpicking over slight change to human beings as seen by the remnants and other officers that were not cauacasian.

Just a wee update today folks. I have things part of the way painted, but not ready to post just yet. If I waited till my typical posting hours of ungodly o'clock yeah, they'd be done ...ah, but I've already been up since four this morning. Right, but following this tomorrow (...maybe) I'll see what I can post. I have some barrels, a Russian truck and an NCR Daimler Armoured Car in the works right now. The Robots and Enclave will come later, but I'd rather paint up some filler pieces at the moment (for one the robots are still needing greenstuffing).

So who is this guy? Originally I modelled him as a Raider (with a sack on his head styled like the Chainsaw Guy out of Resident Evil, but with the addition of eye goggles), but stuck on a bearded head instead for... some reason (being too lazy to sculpt a sack may have been one of them, though the idea's been shelved for future use maybe). Then I thought he was a mercenary. Now with him painted up in red he looks like he should be with the Legion. Now not everyone that's wearing red is in the Legion, but he looks suitable for them. So... I suppose he's just a generic Legion guy. Maybe more styled after the original concept art before they took up the scavenged sports kit look or how they look in Nuka Break. He's suitable as a generic wastelander or could see use as a survivor in games of 7ZombieTv.

I have seven shipping containers in 15mm that look like this. Should I go ahead and repaint them (does Cosco even exist in the Fallout world?) or leave them as is? I'll probably repaint them, but they don't look too bad at the moment. At least they're perfectly serviceable for future game until I can be bothered working on them.

In other news my Wreck Age order arrived today. They're quite lovingly detailed models, if a bit spindly. Now what to use them as I wonder? They're Reclaimers, and I'd like to maybe use them as that in games of Wreck Age. For the Fallout setting though. Hmn... Brotherhood of Steel perhaps, or a technological wastelander faction (they'd fit in with the Reavers maybe). I'm thinking of painting them up in creams with the odd bit of green, though that may vary depending on which faction they wind up in.

In more news. ... I've pledged in for the Across the Dead Earth Kickstarter. Its just made its goal, with them taking on votes on what to set their stretch goals are. I may look into the ruleset as an alternative to the 7TV one for my games (*looks at pile of 7TV expansions and paraphernalia. Though then again, maybe not), or at least just take it up as an alternative post-apocalyptic game. In both of these cases, Wreck Age and Across the Dead Earth, look here for me possibly becoming sidetracked and creating some content specific to those settings (British Glaswegian Post Apocalyptic survivors are an interesting conversion idea. Anyone ever seen Doomsday?).

Lazy update today. I was painting the house as opposed to models, and whilst the first coat dried I went out to the market to see what treats I could find. Damn, I should have brought my camera (and had it stolen off me by some guy in a tracksuit. The market's full of knockoff DvD sellers - note the empty table in the linked shot and the two nearby police officers. The DvD guy's have scarpered into one of the interior areas, which are as bad as Kowloon).

Its a Saturday, so its a quiet day at the market. Sundays is when it picks up (there's like three chapels about it that are crammed). There's plenty of suitable toy cars for sale there, and presumably some rare finds. I wasn't caring about the nice looking toys though, those were expensive (£5!). Instead I was looking for the rusted pieces of junk that've been lying under a table for the past thirty years. Sadly everything that I did buy today's quite shiny and new looking. =(

This is the kind of thing that I had my eyes out for today. Sadly most of the vehicles I came across were either from earlier or later periods (or were still in their boxes, thus "expensive" - £5.50!). This one cost me £4, but I wasn't leaving empty handed so I shelled out for it. Nice looking car. Its a shame I'll be turning it into a rusted piece of crap (though I'd rather not. Hopefully I can not ruin it completely as it is a very nice car).

Matchbox 1937 Cord Model 812 Supercharged Convertible Phaeton Sedan - reads the bottom

This is a cheap piece of plastic crap with a speaker embedded in the bottom. I like the look of those Ferraris, so I picked this up for a pound. I think I've plonk it half on top of another car or stick it into a car wall ...or something. ...Hey I spent £3 on the train fair going to the market, I needed to buy something (ok I bought glue and grass too).

V-Power Ferrari 250 GTO - reads the bottom. I bet it'd go "Vroom!" if the speaker worked too.

Oh, and I managed to see a 1/56-ish Container Ship too (why I wanted the camera, think DayZ). I didn't check the price, but I could've blagged it for £20ish probably. I just looked at it and thought it'd be great for a gaming board if someone could hack off the bottom so it was sunk into the ground a bit. Too much of an undertaking for myself, but a guy can dream.

I seen a replica (yeah replica, this isn't the US) Gewehr 43 in one of the military stalls too. Interesting is all I'm saying. Usually the stalls carry Allied gear, or just the more common German kit. I've always preferred the Lee Enfield myself, though I just have a thing for Enfield's in general (...bringing this back on topic there's a few mods on the Fallout Nexus including Enfields. My favourite, which I used for a while, was the one with the Canadian flag tied to the stock similar to Paciencia. Not a bad gun, but I wound up eventually swapping it out for an AR-15 then eventually an AK-74 I think).

Tomorrow I'll see about going to a car boot sale. That place is usually full of cool stuff (though I still prefer the Barras (market), as it has some age behind it, so you never know what you'll find under a pile of newspapers, etc), its just sifting through all the knock off jeans, VHS, and plumbing parts. =P

*Ah bugger me. I've gotten bloody paint on my shirt. ¬¬

I seen that in Vic's thread. I've gone off 40k lately though, which yes I know you're intended that I chuck this in with this Fallout stuff, but she's following a similar aesthetic style to it. Ah well, more the point that that thing would be huge (is that a Russ stand in?), given that that scale human is a "heroic *cough can't scale for gak *cough" 28mm. But ah, maybe a beast that size could be something heavy for a group to pull out of a post-war factory somewhere to scare the feth out of the locals.

I'm behind on my coursework, so no painting tonight. I spent the night fixing a tablet, so no working on course work tonight. I'll be watching Deadwood later, so sleeping in for class tomorrow and being landed with more work to do, so no painting for the next year. Ah college life. =)

In the pound shop today I came across these. Don't ask me the era, Cold War era Russian vehicles all look the same to me (ie bricks). The packaging's in Cyrillic, so don't ask me what's what. As far as I can tell they're a (front front to back); ГA3-M20, ГA3-21T and a ИЖ-2715. I know that there's also a pair of UAZ-452s in the range that these come from, but the shop I was in didn't receive any (I had the staff run about their stockroom for these...). In the end I left with twelve of these things purely because they somewhat fit the Fallout aethestic (...sort of), and well they were £1 each. I had a look about two other shops for them but found zilch, but hopefully maybe I can come across some UAZ later in the week (in the other five Poundlands about Glasgow city centre...). ...I ah, like the look of UAZs. Maybe its from playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. too much (those things are everywhere in that series, well being set about Chernobyl).

Whatever, off-skies.

I'll have to watch out for him next time I see the film. When around friends I shall yell "oh hey, its that guy!".

Cop out update again. Ref. screw you coursework.

Not post-apocalyptic perse, but I thought I'd post them anyway. Oi its my damn blog!

A friend needed a pair of Fen Beasts for his Warmaster Albion army. Pity the original models are OOP. I threw these together for him, as well how difficult would it be to sculpt a bog beast that's just scraps of muck? They're not painted/ based because I thought he'd rather do that himself (ie so they fit in with his style more), but doesn't have the time much lately to do that, so I'll see what I can do on that end.

* The rear one's going to need a new head btw. I rushed that one a bit, so its recessed face isn't so apparent. Meh.

My order from Not yet dead (a German company making 1/35th models) arrived today. These won't be available for sale on their site due to the company not wanting to make 28mm models. If anyone wants to buy any of them they're available for 3 Euros each. Just contact Not yet dead on Lead Adventure through a PM. Hey they're post-apocalyptic models, I couldn't say no. Besides I'll be needing some moderns for Across the Dead Earth (though these will probably work fine with the Fallout setting too. Hotpants are totally around in that retro futuristic setting).

*Not my image. The five available miniatures.

One of the scale images I've posted. NYD, Wargames Factory, NYD, Empress Miniatures, NYD, Wreck-Age (which I haven't finished painting yet). The Wargames Factory miniature is raised slightly on its base btw.

I flung together a couple of filing cabinets. As they're busted up old things I wasn't too bothered about the eveness of the faces. I know that Copplestone Castings made a set of filing cabinets to go with their Kiss Kiss Bang Bang range, but couldn't see any on their site. What I'd like to find are ones which can be put together from snap fit MDF sheets, though these are probably more economical.

As I may be making interior spaces later on I've left them loose for the moment (sand looks a bit out of place down in a vault...). I'll see about putting together a set of office related terrain for use in that Vault that's planned, plus just for the buildings that I have interiors for.

And my camera seems to have bunked itself somehow (its displaying horizontal lines across the picture and the brightness is off). WTF? Eugh...

Yes well, those robots may have came across a lot friendlier back in the day. The question is begged whether them shooting you for not having the right pass is a result of a degradation in their programming, or a protocol emplaced in the result of war, or whether that was the standard response.

I've discussed pre-war American society way back near the beginning of this blog. The game's only show elements of it, but the players (well at least those that look beyond the shooty, shooty bits) are presumably left to considering if the war was a positive event to an extent. Of course that's going down the Ulysses "wipe the slate clean" route, and that's a slippery slope of course. So maybe humanity could have been redeemed, and the world as a whole wasn't up to all that amoral "Murica/For Science!" crap, after the deaths of x billion people that question's probably a bit moot now. =P

Painty/Moddely updates tomorrow possibly, if my camera's not completely knacked. I'm not holding out on that though. I'be bunged together a bit more scenery (which'll never be painted naturally), and have a few bits and bobs painted up (just filler crap like barrels). ...Just a pity that my free time's been shot to hell lately, its a bitch not getting around to painting anything. =/

@ Dr H

And I'm now (once the cash clears) the proud owner of 27 toilets. ...Woo!

These were intended to be larger sets of filing cabinets. However the slats that divide the drawers turned out to be a bother to position without using an alternative building method (which I wasn't comfortable with doing with the material at hand), so I just turned them into regular shelves instead. Had I set out to make shelves originally I would have changed the details a little (like adding a foot at the bottom like the ones in game), but I suppose they work well enough as is. I'll put together some more with busted up shelves at some point. These ones need filling now I think.

A pair of art deco desks. ...I put these together because... Well because I could. I'll need to smooth out the edges a bit, but I was just using loose plasticard for these, so I wasn't caring much. =P

And an office desk. The *not Fallout* terminal's made by Ainsty castings (the set also includes ones for wall mounting too, plus he also makes some other Fallout-y bits).

Sidetracking myself here because I can't be bothered painting. I'll see about putting together more office crap throughout the week. I've came up with a temporary fix for my camera's issues (involving me quickly turning a lightbulb on and off... yeah, temporary), but I'll be trawling pawn shops through the week for a new one I suspect.

wearing my T-51b winterized Power armor with the chinese assault rifle, the minigun, plasma weapons, or missile launcher I find myself muttering 'For the Emprah! when firing

"Your mumblings are awakening the sleeping Dragon, be wary when meddling the affairs of Dragons, for thou art tasty and go good with either ketchup or chocolate. "
Dragons fear nothing, if it acts up, we breath magic fire that turns them into marshmallow peeps. We leaguers only cry rivets!

I'll be the only guy at my club with lavatory based objective markers for some time I think. ^^

Heh, what in that those super mutants are essentially orks? No idea why Bethesda dropped the previous game's canon for that weird business with Vault 87. I suppose they needed to include Super Mutants somehow, but, as with other elements, they could have handled it better.

...Just don't download any one of the loads of 40k related mods though. I think there was even a full conversion planned at some point which fell though.
