Well if you feel like shooting me a pm I'll respect your privacy and not share it with anyone. Otherwise cool and hope you can cook up a better list next time.
Close but not quite.
Eh Adepticon's missions this year along with the ITC rules were really just dog poop for Tau. I wanted to do better than last year, but I knew with these rules I would be lucky to make it all the way. Those were 5 tough games against some great players. The only one that wasn't a slog was against the War Conv and that's because it's just a horrible match up for War Conv. He played it well and was honestly great about it.
I may do a writeup later in battle reports to outline how the matches went, but again I doubt I'll post the full list. Just not a fan of that sort of thing. Thankfully the Adepticon Tau are definitely not the NOVA/ ETC or even ITC tau I will be running the rest of the season!

The responsibility for the results of the AdeptiCon 40,000 Championship rests with me. As the coordinator of the 40K events, all aspects of the tournaments and their organization and execution rest on my shoulders.
Small details are often the most important, this weekend being a particularly potent example. The breakdown in process was that lists were not double checked prior to play beginning on Friday. I did not ensure that this key step was completed.
When the floor judges were made aware of the errors, the printed policy was enforced and the players in question were sanctioned. In one instance, an illegal model was removed from play for the final two rounds. In the other instance, illegal units were removed from play for the final round, resulting in concession. The enforcement of the printed policies took into consideration the nature of the list errors and the procedural breakdown described above. Expulsion of players for what I deemed shared responsibility was, in my opinion, excessive.
We have had the same conduct policy in place for over a decade, and in light of these events will review during our normal post convention assessment process.
Apologies to the impacted players who bear the true brunt of the failure.
Regards,
Chris

Whoops - #11 "Tau" list was me, GreyDragoon is the #25 *actual* tau list.
My list was not a tau list, and was a signup mistake I think - I took a white scar gladius + optimized stealth cadre. Ken had the *actual* tau list of all tau. And we even ended up playing in Rnd 2!
Keep in mind those rankings are done by overall score, and going into the last day, Ken was ranked 16th, and I was 18th and made it into top 16 as an alternate, losing in the first round of the top 16 to Aaron. King of the Hill + Thunderstar was a bit too much to surmount, though it was a close game.

The Adepticon missions heavily favored Objective Secured, which Tau lists (and others) often lack. They actually do better in ITC missions and errata.
Also there are many other factions left outside of the top 25.

That might also explain the conspicuous lack of Necrons if ObSec was so heavily weighted, they tend to placd very highly in ITC events, it makes sense that almost everything is Eldar and SM's.

I had an absolute blast in the HH events. I won't post all of the pictures, but you can see them in my Gallery here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-18698-50943_Adepticon%202016.html So many well painted armies in the 30k events. The HH TO's were great guys, hobbiests first and foremost, and you could tell by the great scenarios they wrote. This Imperial Fists player had an amazing display board. He designed this using a CAD program and had a company laser cut the wood for him. Amazing. An Iron Warriors player made this for an objective marker. fether. And his dreadnought... My Templar Brethren, Centurion, and Primas Medicae charging Purtrabo. I killed his terminator squad and put 3 wounds of the fether before I died... My army and display board. During the Zone Mortalis event, my Centurion charging into some renegade militia! Rar!

I'll always give props to a T.O. that steps up and takes responsibility for issues that come up with their tournament. For the most part all of the 40k events have been run extremely well and with a high level effort given to a thankless task. That being said I have to call 100% bs on the head T.O. falling on his sword. The player that won the tournament is considered one of the "top" players in the country and for him to sit there and honestly say "oops" to him being 1 point over is 100% gak. He knew what he was pulling.
The RAW vs RAI with the lonewolves and troops is also ridiculous. You mean to tell me that the winner knew enough that this would be questioned but he was "innocent" about the list being over priced? What a joke. Rhysk, you guys do an excellent job every single year, don't let one player that played the system take that away from you or any of the other hard working T.O,'s

For the drop pods, it entirely depends on the match. Most of the times it's the destroyers and a vanguard or ranger squad (usually my Rune Priest and HQ also go in the pods somewhere too), but in one game, I actually put just a random servitor in a pod instead.
That's the nice thing about the pods - I have a lot of flexiblity in deciding what I want to drop down. Wraithknights? Drop some grav. Large masses of infantry? Drop some flamers. Backfield disruption? Vanguard with the Dominus does the trick just great.

@Orock it's mainly due to the power balance for Marine-type Imperials and Eldar vs. the rest of the codices. The Missions also played a significant role.
Give it a little time though, it'll bounce back. And I would not be shocked to see significantly more diversity in the NOVA format. ITC has a bit more as well. Although it still favors the above two - mostly just due to the codices and a few faq readings.
Anyway, let's try to give the TOs and folks a bit of a rest. I know if everyone feels like I do it's just exhausting having come off that and going right back to work. And in general I felt the tournament went rather smoothly with the exception of the wolf pack issue at the end.

I can't figure out why simple math is so hard for people, especially in game that requires so much simple math. The number of people that have won/placed at major events in the last few years that can't assemble a proper valid list is crazy. Unfortunately, without some tough love, there is no incentive to change the quality control that needs to be put into list documentation.
Also, just because a TO calls someone on something doesn't mean a dang thing. TOs are human too and make mistakes, all the time.
Debated this one for quite a while while in Chicago, but why does everyone ignore the fact that GW describes the dataslate elements in glorious detail? Battlefield role is one of them. There would be no reason that I can think of for a Lone Wolf to have an Elite battlefield role if it never filled a slot.
NotThisTime wrote: Matthias wrote:Lone Wolf Issue: Whether or not the Lone Wolf can be taken as a stand alone elite slot without the requisite units is debatable/vague. We made a ruling for the very similar Court of the Archon that that unit could act as the stand alone Force Org slot. We answered several emails that we would interpret the Lone Wolf the same way but we're not able to publish the interpretation. But what we did is consistent with what we published and Aaron received explicit permission to do it before the event.
I'm not sure how the Lone Wolf issue is debatable or vague. This rule itself in the codex couldn't be more clear and straight forward. If Adepticon created a rule stating that a Lone Wolf does take up a FOC slot, the issue still remains that there is no troop, Wolf Guard, or Wolf Guard Terminator unit in the army needed to satisfy the Lone Wolf entry. Another concern is how does Adepticon create a rule against what the codex states and not let any of the other participants know about it except the "said" player. Not publishing changes to rules due to time constraints or what have you is simply not acceptable. A lot of time, money, and effort is spent to attend events like Adepticon, the least Adepticon can do is make the rules as transparent as possible so it levels the playing field for everyone.

same way IG have had various units through multiple editions that dont fill a slot but are HQ units anyway.

What no one seems to be addressing is where are his troop choices that let him take lone wolves, unless you are saying that troops from other space marine codexes count for the Fenris detachment?????
If that is the case can I take an HQ and two troops from codex marines and then take a guard heavy tank and just say the marines have my HQ and troops, we good dog!!!
Clearly illegal list and the TO or event organizer will not grow a backbone, do not be surprised when this happens next year again

Debated this one for quite a while while in Chicago, but why does everyone ignore the fact that GW describes the dataslate elements in glorious detail? Battlefield role is one of them. There would be no reason that I can think of for a Lone Wolf to have an Elite battlefield role if it never filled a slot.
What no one seems to be addressing is where are his troop choices that let him take lone wolves, unless you are saying that troops from other space marine codexes count for the Fenris detachment?????
I'm not interesting in "did he cheat or not." On the other side of the country I've ruled that LW can be taken as an elite slot, or can be taken without a slot for each unit of "xxx" taken. RAW I read that the picture above clearly shows that this model is an Elite Battlefield role. It also tells me that I "can take 1 unit for each... Does not take FOC slot..." These two elements contradict each other. So, anyone that saw per RAW it is only one, is literally discounting a written rule and the picture that embodies it.

Chris
You should give a class on how to deal with a difficult, potentially volatile situation in the best possible way after the "damage" has been done. Quite a few athletes, businesses, celebrities, etc. would benefit.
