Hi, so I thought I'd get some feedback on my list for the upcoming Dakka UK meet-up at Warhammer World in Nottingham. It's gonna be a small 1000pt tourney - I've never played at one before. I'm not exactly a WAAC kind of guy (I like my armies to be fluffy), but I would like the list to be fairly competitive so as to avoid a complete tonking!

The theme for my army is a sort of BloodAxe 'Mekanized' Brigade' on a small scale, obviously.

A note on 'Red Paint Job': I am aware that many people would probably consider RPJ indispensable for this sort of list, and that for only 5pts it gives a considerable tactical advantage. I DID agonise about giving it to my vehicles, but in the end, I decided it just wasn't fluffy enough. All my vehicles are painted regulation Bloodaxe grey/camo, and to daub them with red doesn't seem right.

I just wanted to pre-empt 'Wot? No RPJ?' type posts!

Anyhow, here goes - any comments/feedback welcome!

Warboss
+PK
+TL Shoota
+Cybork Body
=100pts

19 Boyz
+Nob
+PK
+Bosspole
=154pts

These will be travelling in the following:

Battlewagon
+Armour Plates
+Reinforced Ram
+x3 Big Shoota
=120pts

3x Trukk Boy Mobs, configured thusly:

12 Ork Boyz
+Nob
+PK
+Bosspole
Trukk
+Boarding Plank
+Armour Plates
=162pts

Also...

Deffkopta
+TL Rokkit
+Buzzsaw
=70pts

Deffkopta
+TL Rokkit
+Buzzsaw
=70pts

Total = 1000pts

I am concerned that it is both short on shooting AND on Boyz. I also would have liked to include a KFF Mek (possibly leading the force?), but I wanted to include some form of 'Alpha-strike' capability to deal with vehicles, and as such think that the Deffkoptas are indispensible.

Thoughts?

Could always drop the Warboss for a KFF Big Mek with Powerklaw. Similar effect, for cheaper, and gets you that precious 4+ cover save on your vehicles.

I'd try to sneak in a Deff Rolla. You don't have a lot of anti-vehicle, and once that Mek gets his KFF on you'll have a vehicle wrecking machine! (Mek with PK, boarding plank, Deff Rolla Battlewagon.)

Armor plates on Trukks aren't very useful Consider this. Glancing hits are highly unlikely against AV10, unless your in standard infantry range (at which point you'll be dropping off da Boys anyway, job done.) Everything that hits you will be penetrating. With open topped, there is only a 1/6 to get a result that armor plates will ignore. Everything else will blow off a weapon, immobilize or kill you. The odds are against the plates doing anything if you use the trukks right.... and that 30 points saved could be quite useful.

IMO, I'd split the Koptas up so they can potentially hit different targets.

Food for thought.

Started wargaming with heroscape. Who says kids can't be generals?

Tournament Results:
Space Marines 2-1-0

In Soviet Russia.... you go to Gulag.

Nice one!

Yeah, the Koptas are two seperate units - I can see that it doesn't look like that on the list though.... I'll edit that to make it clearer. I'm with you on the KFF Mek - I'm probably going to change that. I'm just worried that the army won't pack enough of a punch without a Warboss leading the line. Who would deal with enemy characters? The Mek isn't hard enough for that IMO. I could probably get rid of the Armour Plates on everything and get a deffrolla.... I'll think about it.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Seeing as i will be playing you i recommend taking 20 flash gitz and a Big Mek armed with a falafel.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I second the Mek with KFF and PK idea as well as the dropping of Armor Plates.

I would recommend Reinforced Rams on all your Trukks and you definitely don't need 3 Big Shootas on your Battlewagon, 1 will do nicely.

Deff Rollas are a necessity, IMO.

Yay! I just can't see what other alternatives there would be. I mean, a squad of Lootas?

Burnas in the wagon? Nobs?

I just feel that CC and attacking in numbers is what Orks are best at, so I need a list that maximises their ability to do that. I'm not sure how well a footslogging list would do at this point-level.

You already KNOW enough details, cheeky!

Tell you what, post YOUR list and I might consider it...

I'll be taking the same list I took in my last two battle reports (linked below for your convenience!) I don't feel the need to post it to the 40K Army Lists solely because I don't have time/inclination to change it

  • Da Dark Angelz vs El Quixo
  • Da Dark Angelz vs El Quixo - The Revenge!

  • We are both relying on 2x Deffkoptas for anti tank, though you have the battlewagon and deffrolla as well - plus more boyz, while I have a small unit of Nobz and a Warboss in addition to my KFF Mek. If we match up, 1st turn is going to be *very* important in crippling the other's mech - but more so taking out the opponents Deffkoptas to avoid being crippled in return...

Either way - I'm sure it would be fun!

Oh - and I assumed Sluggas...

Nice batreps, man. Very well produced.

Yeah, I think a match between us could go either way - on the face of it you might have the advantage in CC, what with having the Nobz squad and all. But then you never know - as you pointed out, I do have the advantage of numbers. It's tough to call.

I actually hope we don't face each other - our lists are so similar we'd probably be better-off D6ing for the win!
If we get time for a 'just-for-fun' pick up game on friday night, we should team up against two other players. That would be a laugh. The lists might require a bit of tweaking though...
I had originally raised the idea of having a big Apoc game, Orks against everyone else, at some point in the weekend, but apparently we won't have time.

I would suggest to go all boyz and nob squad, all in deffrolled battlewagon. Add in a KFF and a pk armed warboss. I mean I can't argue with results. It works. Don't rely on deff koptaz to take out all armor.

One battlewagon? With a KFF Mek and a PK Warboss, a diversified Nob Squad (how many? ) and what? 12 Boyz? At this points-level?

Who are you playing? Homeless people?

You must be high or something.

In my first turn, one buzzsaw deffkopta would open the single battlewagon like a can of Pepsi. I wouldn't even need to disembark - I could just park up a safe distance away and shoot up the rest of your army as they footslog across the board. Every time they get close I could just move away and keep shooting. When their numbers are low enough I can just tank-shock the rest off the table-edge.

I dunno, maybe I misread your post or something.

Anyway, I'm not relying on the Koptas to take out ALL armour - they ARE useful for getting an early kill on things that can do a lot of damage to my transports, or my boyz once the transports are popped, such as a Dakka Pred, a Vindiesel, LRBT, Sentinel etc... They can at least tie things up and get in my opponent's face, make him think.
