The idea of Deathwing was to try and improve my painting and aas i like the terminator models and thought they would have enough detail to try things while having a nice overall effect on.

An army list will be posted shortly however it will consit of an assault squad, tactical squad, HQ is undecided and a LRC. If i have enough points i might add a dread in, however this should reach apporximatly 1000 points easily.

So here I am, Painting by myself as always but after finding this community I was very excited to post up some pictures. I want them to be table top standard if not more and I am currently un happy about the way my termi's have turned out. I havn't painted in 6-7 years and the colour scheme was used from a vid i found on youtube and the rest was bits and bobs i learnt from various other videos and articles.

So this is my first squad (WIP)



This is the first one painted, almost done however do not have any skull white at the moment to tweak bits.



The front of him - The pictures are VERY close up - might take more later.




And the Back

I will be posting the whole squad once they are complete/flocked etc...

Any comments or ideas to improve these would be brilliant and if i like the idea I will impliment it and show you guys the results.

3. To convert a model for my HQ.

5. For all models to have time and dedication put into them. Build and paint Tactical terminator squad.
6.To produce a 1000 points fully painted, wyswyg Deathwing Army.
7. Put them into battle.

Update:

Spent most of the day painting and have skull white in the post so got to wait untill I get it to improve the skulls on these guys. Any tips on gold would be nice, doesn't seem to be working out too well but much happier with them in general.

I have spent much time on these models and they are the first i've done in a long time, so every bit of help is taken in to consideration. Any ideas i like i'll try it and post an update asap.

Update:

Going to re-do the gold today add felsh wash and finish of the sergent

Theyre looking very nice, but the powerclaws could do with maybe some highlighting, and maybe a wash to add depth. Just my 2 pennies! (I will not use American dosh!)

Thanks Ghosty! I think I am going to do some ice blue mixed with skull white highlights (when the skull white comes). For washes to you mean on the claws or in general? I have bought some washes today to do the skulls on pads/legs so looking forward to doing that.

General Update:

Decided to use a chaos Lord conversion as my HQ choice, Currently trying my first attempt at green stuff - will post pictures when its done (might be a few days)

Update:

Spent alot of time thinking of how im going to do the conversion, but going to do my next tactical termi squad first!

Here is a pic of my assualt terminators, amost complete, gonna do a few tweaks which won't even be reconisable on the photos anywho!

I am very pleased with the basing and happy how they turned out now.

Theres one missing and thats because i've had trouble painting the shield and thunder hammer, there will also be a standard on one of these guys as my standard bearer.

They are a little browner than other Deathwing I've seen. Also I think the right shoulder pads are needing some insignia lovin'. Otherwise, very solid work. The lightning claws are nice and subtly awesome

I'm using a mix of graveyard earth and bleached bone I didnt want them to stand out to much.

I really wanted to get the DW special made shoulder pads but it would add up.

I'm gonna be sticking some small shields etc on them now my Darkangels conversion pack thhing has arrived Once they are painted ofc.

They're nicely executed, indeed!!!

It's not always easy to manage some clear SM!

Anyway, I do have a few comments:

- there are still some mould lines visible, for instance on the last picture, on his left gauntlet : nothing much to worry about, that's a detail;

- you could add some more highlights on some parts : the chestplates, claws, eyes, etc... they would stand out better!

- if you could afford a Dark Angel conversion kit, it would provide you with much details related to the DA in general, and the Deathwing : feathers, angels, etc... To make the armours feel like ornated and revered relics.

- eventually, I think that you should add some more colours to the models. For me, there's too much "bone" colour on them. I'd try and paint the shoulder pads in another colour, dark green for example... But that's just my personal taste, they're great the way they are!

Oh, and nice work on the freehands, they're simple yet very effective!!!

I'll start from the bottom, the free hand was just to see if I could do any - first time, and its one of those things you can only get better at and cant paint over no prob so cheers

The mould marks will be gone tomorrow - didnt really notice them much (im to unobservant) so thanks for that.

They do look pretty dull at times thats why i addedd the free hand, I think i'm gonna add some angels stuff on the body armour etc...its just a matter of finding where it fits nicely as it arrived this morning only been sprayed but many ideas running through my head.

The highlights is somthing i'm working on (never done it before) so trying to add a bit, I added a spotof white on one of the termi's eyes but didn't like it, think its gonna be a bit of trial and error on that part but there's always something to imrpove on!

I think they look good. Easily table top standard. The one thing they are obviously missing to me is battle damage.

Also you seem too hard on yourself. Chill, they look good, but unless you paint stuff that most people cannot you only get some comments not a flood.

First white is a hard colour to paint.

So you have to paint it on in a ridiculous number of layers to get that perfection look I suspect you are looking for.

I also think the lighting claws in their present state aren't really working. No real answer to help though.
