I am trying to find a table large enough to hold a 6' by 4' gaming board. I am not looking for a dinning table or anything like that but more so the tables that they have at GW's. Does anyone know where you can buy a table like that? Thanks!

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Make sure you are posting in the correct section when you start a thread - I don't think this one is appropriate.

In reply to your question - have you looked at canteen tables? They fold flat for ease of storage and should be big enough to fit a large board on top fairly easily (or combine several together if you get smaller tables).

Not sure where you would get these in the US though.

If you want something more permanent, buy some 4x4's and some MDF sheets and build a table - there are plenty of guids on the internet.

Our gaming club, myself and about 3 friends use the Lifetime 6" catering tables.

They fold flat, then in half (with a carrying handle) and, at 6"x2.5" mean you need two of them to play games.

Anything similar will be good, these are rated for catering so heavy duty.

You can build one. I took a sheet of 8x4 plywood and had it cut to be 4x6. Used 2x4's to make a Rectangle fram, and more 2x4's for the legs and brace supoprts.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

I actually put plans for building one into the articles section here.

Takes a couple of hours to assemble, materials aren't too expensive.

I've made a modified version of Redbeard's table - looks great all stained and sanded!

One of the major changes I made was to put more reinforcements under the table top itself (which I kept at 8x4), and to use a pair of catering table legs (20 bucks at lows) so I can fold it up into a low profile.

It's amazingly sturdy.

Note that for Redbeard's, I would also highly recommend using 1/2"x6" for the inner trough rails and the outer 'short' rails - this will give you a 1.5" or so rail around the table that you can use to drop modular terrain in.

I use one of these under my realm of battle board link(www.lowes.com). I keep it in the same closet as the rest of my stuff when not in use. Also has the bonus of being useful for purposes other than gaming.

I have a hybrid pretty much of what was listed above. Though I can't afford the Sultan, I would really like one. For now, I have an old 6 foot table that I put 2 green carpeted 4x4 sheets of particle board that I place on top. This way my gaming room can double as an extra bedroom when I have company simply by folding up the table and leaning the boards against a bookshelf.

Sure, it's no frills, but it gets the job done, and my terrain makes up for it.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

My advice:

1. Get two 72" x 30" from Office Depot for $50 apiece.

2. When put together, you get an extra 6" on each side of the table (making a 6' x 5' table) which is a handy place to put models, transports, and all the other stuff that needs to deploy onto the table!!

3. Simple solution for a gaming surface: www.zuzzy.com - you can get a 6x4 gaming mat to put in the middle. Literally a roll-up gaming table. Its awesome.

Honestly, making a gaming table is extremely easy if you have a little time to spare.

I went to my local hardware store. Bought a wooden plank that was 8x4 feet. Had them cut it into 4 parts so I'd have 4 panels 2x4 feets. Bought a single sheet of high density isolation foam. Once cut properly I was able to glue them on the wooden panels in equal measures.

Paint the foam green with cheap paint to have a base coat. Use sand, gravel, flock to make it a little more realistic and you now have 4 very modular panels that cost less than 30$ to make.

If you want to get a little more creative you can sculpt river beds in the foam, volcanic ground etc. It does not get much more expensive, just a little bit more time involved.

A word of caution.

My friend ordered an emissarry from this company at GenCon last year. He didn't get it until June of this year. It took from August 2009 to June 2010 to get it. I'm not suggesting a boycott, but you need to know what you're getting into with these people. It was 10 months of run-a-round, and excuse after excuse. He's still waiting on some parts, by the way.

My table is just a 8x4 by 3/4 inch oak ply wood bought at hard ware store $20, screwed to the top of a standard folding table and several coats of flat black spray paint. Makes room for 2 games, toss a table cloth on it and great for parties, it legs fold up and I slide it easy enough on the back porch or garage for storage. It also works great for up to 12 people in a RPG game like my Palladium games.

Like others I built one, 6x4 plywood with 2x4s around it and then two folding table lets (home depot sells them seperately) on the bottom. Cost around $70, most of which was the cost of the legs.

The main issue I had is it was too heavy to move alone. I recently gave it away but if I do it again I'd add 2 heavy wheels to one side so I can prop it against a wall then wheel it out to use.
