I used green on a Plasma Blastgun, but only because blue would match the Warhound's hull, but I use blue for the LMA of all the other plasma weapons. Red would look good if you want to show one just about to overheat

I'd do some object source lighting from it as well (Primarily at the bottom of it, as if the area where the coil is merging with the gun is the hottest, while the outer most aren't nearly as bad) but my painting is not NEARLY good enough to attempt such a thing.

I stick with basic highlighted blue myself. I did see a guy with a SM army on Saturday that used pink. It actually looked pretty good, as he also did a nice directional lighting effect with it.

I paint it scorpion green, then a wash of undiluted green ink, then a very, very light drybrush of skull white.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

That is one of the things I've always stuck with on my personal armies. Plasma is blue. That's just how it is. It doesn't turn purple until it is going bad, and reds and pinks mean that it is about to explode! That is why ALL of my plasma is blue......

Is this based on anything? Plasma color much like laser color is determined by: type, intensity, and chemical make-up, not the "Sell By" date.

Hydrogen in its plasmatic state is red to a funny kind of purple, the myth that all plasma is blue was made by star trek as it looked cooler than red.

That being said...mine are painted utarmarine blue, a medium dry brushing of ice blue, a light dry brushing of titanium white, finished off with a deadly nightshade wash.

The few times it made an appearance in Star Trek, plasma was green. Plasma weapons and warp core plasma being vented both had a pale green color. I believe it only made appearances in TNG, and maybe once in DS9 (during one of the larger Dominion War fleet engagements, I think).

In the top photo, please note that the plasma is only blue at its least dense points. At the center of the sphere and on its inside surfaces, where the plasma is densest, it is purple or red.

Plasma building up in the coils of a plasma rifle would be extremely dense.

Ergo, red plasma.

However, the bottom photo illustrates a counterpoint. It's actually green at its least dense points to aqua/blue at its most dense.

Therefore, we can conlude:

Different materials in plasmatic states are different colors.

So make your plasma any damn color you want. You're probably correct regardless.
