I know that mobs of orks that have 11 models or more gain the fearless rule, however, lets say that during combat the mob dwindles downs to six orks left.

Since in the ork codex it states that orks substitute their numbers for their leadership value, would this mean that they would have to take morale checks with a leadership value of six or their standard seven?

You would use their standard value of 7 because it's higher than the 6. But you must remember that loosing close combat also reduces your LD by the number you lost by. So either way, they are probably dead

You can choose to use 6 or 7.

So, on the other hand, if you're a gambling person, you can use Mob rule a different way.

Say you have a 4 man squad of Koptas who are shot at in the shooting phase and are in imminent danger of getting assaulted in the assault phase. Taking one casualty, you opt to replace the 7 Ld with the 3, hopefully fail, fall back 3d6 and hopefully rally next turn. That's alot of hopefully, but hey, better than definitely dying.

Or instead of risking death by sweeping advance you could just use the Deffkoptas' Hit-And-Run USR.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Also, I should clarify. The 3d6 fallback is specific to unit type.

First off, if you fail the Ld in the shooting phase, there is no sweeping advance.

Second, you can't use Hit and Run till you're in cc. At which point, if you win, you're lucky, and second, if you're fighting space marines (which is what I fight predominantly), you might as well figure on losing the initiative roll, but at least no sweeping advance.

To save making another thread, at what point is fearless lost through taking casuatlies? Is it lost immedatly or at the end of the turn?

Since there is no timescale specified in the rule you will check the mob's status at the moment you need to test.

Not to worry, that block of chedder can be tied up easily with 30 boyz, can get his ass handed to him in a match with Ghazzy, and can be squigified with Zogwort. How satisfiying would that be? ....Squigfiston, Lord of gak...

Exactly. It's almost laughable that the unit has that ability, but whatever.
