I haven't seen a thread like this on dakka in awhile so I thought I would get one going. What are some things you do not put on your models even though they come standard and what are some models you do not like to put together.

I for one dont put the bolters on my rhinos. I just do not like how they look on them at all so I don't put them on. I hardly ever actually shoot said bolters so its never an issue.

The one and only thing I dont like to build are CSM marines holding bolters. Cutting off the bolter grip then glueing it onto there trigger hand then getting it to look right with there other hand that is holding the bolter wheres on my patience rather quickly. I may just be doing it the hard way some how but I never look forward to doing those models even though I love how they look.

The other was I tried to build a penitent engine with out pinning anything nor any zip kicker that was a nightmare.

Can't you see we have been abandoned? Forget matters of duty and honor to the emperor this is now a matter of pride.

Plain old guardsmen.

So many of them, with 6 or 7 pieces to mold line each...

Taking me forever.

I hate building large numbers of uniform troops. My Fire Warriors bored the hell out of me. My Tactical Marines were a bit better, since they're each a bit different, but still, putting together large numbers of them was a drag. I dunno how I'm ever going to slog my way through building an IG regiment.

Daemonettes can be tricky if you mix the legs up.

Certain legs only fit with certain bodies, and it's kind of hard to tell which ones pair up without going through every single one and trying it, then you find out that one leg doesn't seem to fit any and you've made a mistake somewhere...

Games workshop also provided unhelpful instructions... There really should be some kind of law against instructions that just show a picture of a leg, and a big exclamation mark.

As for bit I don't use... I don't use those things that come with marines that look like nunchuks! Mainly cause I can't figure out what they are. What are those things?

Oddly enough I hate the guns with attached hands. esp kroot. Drive me mad trying to get them to line up and make conversions tricky (I like giving guys weapons on shoulder straps and the like). Whole arms arn't too bad but when its just a hand its horrible.

Things I never put on models... hmm... back banners, never looked right on my wolves for some reason.

Oh man, this is the truth. I'm pretty sure I messed up at least one or two of the Daemonettes I just assembled the other day - two of them look like they're falling over.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. What Marine set does it come with? Tac? Assault? All of them? Is it on the Sergeant sprue or the regular Marine sprues?

Is it held in a hand?

Haha yeah I did exactly the same thing, first one I did looked like she was falling backwards, then I figured out what was happening... but the last one then ended up with a big gap . Fortunately after some filling and 'creative' basing they just about came out okay.

It's on the regular marine sprue, with arms, legs and bolt guns, near all the purity seals. It isn't in a hand. Looking at it again it might possibly be some alternative kind of grenade(?) or a pipe/stick bomb, but it's quite ornate. It really just reminds me of nunchucks lol. I think I tried hanging it from a belt once, but it was too big to really fit anywhere properly.

Oh, I know what you're talking about. I always figured it was some kind of communication device, like the Dev Sergeant's signum.

That part is a pair of scroll cases.

I never put on back banners for any of my marines. Sure they look kind of cool, but no Soldier in his right mind would run around the battlefield with a giant brightly colored banner on a 4 foot pole attached to his back. (Samurai excluded).

If it's the thing I'm thinking of, I thought it was a pair of incense censers. They can't be krak grenades, and it's unlikely that they're meltabombs, especially since we have a well known model for meltabombs.

This is it. Scroll cases. I totally knew that.

Looking at my Librarian and my Chaplain, they've got them on the models... I feel like an idiot now.

Regarding the back banners... come on, man! You're nine feet tall and clad in brightly colored power armor.

Why not go the extra yard and wear an awesome looking back banner?

Truth be told, I never used them before now, but now that I'm redoing all of my Marines, I'm adding back banners to the Tac Sergeants showing their squad number and type. It looks pretty awesome.

Ahhh thanks! Mystery solved!

So to conclude: I never use... scroll cases!

As for back banners? I do like them... I don't like when they snap off in the carry case though...

I hate putting on the gun in the center of the drop pod I'm always tempted to just glue the stupid doors shut and be done with it. I also hate having to glue the heavy bolters back on my predators like every other week.

Every marine that I have who doesn't have his helmet on gets a helmet. $40 Sammael kit? You get jeweler's saw and helmet too, no screaming faces here.

It's dangerous outside, put your goddammed helmet on.

Lol, I feel the same way. Mostly because I hate painting faces, but also because the hairstyle on Sororitas models is hideous.

I can paint pretty well. Can do great table top quality so not much more I could ask for but for the life of me I cant paint faces. Everyone gets a helmet always. My guardsmen? Everyone gets a gas mask!

As someone else said. Building mass same looking infantry can get old as well in the same sitting.

Lemme see, I have a lot of these.

1) Top-knots. On orks, or on Chaos Marines. I hate them, I think they look stupid. I cut off any and all top-knots. Any other hair on orks gets removed too.

2) Horns on chaos marines. I avoid those heads altogether.

3) Flag poles on the back of motorcycles. Eldar jetbikes, marine bikes, the old ork bikes - all had poles for banners. Gah.

4) Agree on the helmet thing - Marines should wear helmets.

5) Tongues on tyranids. That was my wife's army, and her decision, she thought the tongues made them too recognizable - she wanted more alien. So we cut out all the tongues on every model in the army.

This is sounding more like what I remove than what I don't add...

Lemme see;
All orks get one piece of 'bling' from the sprue. That could be an ammo pouch, a grenade, a strip of bullets, or the like. Basic idea is that everyone gets something. But no heads. I don't like the head bit.

I'm not a big fan of smoke launchers or the giant IG searchlights. It's usually hard to find a good place to put the smoke launchers in particular.

Oh man I second that feeling about helmets! While some faces look dramatic, I can't help thinking... you are wearing powered armor that can stop anything short of an anti-tank missile, and you choose to expose the most vulnerable part of your body!?

I don't glue any of the belt acessories onto my marines, they don't really fit well anywhere.

I like the chaos belt acessories better, since they fit on better (due to a curved shape) and look cooler IMO.

Also I hate trying to attach the chaos heavy bolter or the scout one, I can never get them to look right on the model.

I suspect that GW made them that way to give me rage.
