Implacable Skitarii
|
Hello everyone! I have recently been plaguing this website with pleas for aid with my adeptus mechanicus force, and I had one more question I wanted to fire off.
I am not good with greenstuff at all, but I am pretty good at kitbashing, does anyone have any idea on how I could make power armor like what the Sisters of Battle have? Something less bulky than Space Marine Power Armor, but still recognizably better than carapace armor.
Thanks!

Do you still want it to look archaic and 40K-ish?
You might be best off looking at heavily armoured fantasy models and teching them up a bit (tubes...lots of tubes).
No specific kits spring to mind at the moment, at least in the "easy to convert (ideally plastic)" category.

Yeah, I guess "Male Sisters of Battle" would be the kind of direction I was most interested in

Some of the Inquisition acolyte figures have more slender, medieval-esque armour that you could probably use as counts-as power armour.

What about WHFB Empire Greatswords? Possibly kitbashed with some Imperial Guard bitz?

I dont want them to be like Medieval style, I plan on using these as Mechanicus Protectors. I've seen some plastic SOBs made from Eldar Bitz but I'm afraid that they'll be TOO slender and only eldar Bitz will work with them.
Could Guardian torsos be used?

I'm a huuuge fan of MAS' stuff, hell I commissioned the guy who made the Iron Brotherhood to make my Skitarii Heads. I'd prefer that my army be 100% GW Legal, although that's a very good idea

I think your army only needs to be 90% legal. Even then you can lie and say they're mass conversion from GW stuff.
GW arnt gunna stop me from using non GW mini's. My HQ's are from Reaper and Warmachine.
Might be worth experimenting with Green Stuff and add those long cloaks to IG minis? Add the odd pipe or robot arm\leg.
I love CMON.com for ideas.

How about Bretonnian Man at Arm legs and Knight torsos combined with scout arms and maybe chaos warrior helmets with green stuff hoods?

That could work. I'm using MAA legs for my Skitarii Regulars with Cadian Torsos(I may make them in a more Genswick Rifle style for convenience and cost reasons). I'm not sure the proportions would work well with that particular combination. The scout arms are rather large.

You could try converting stormtroopers with large curved shoulderpads like the SoB have, and extra armor plates on the legs as well. It wouldn't quite be "covered in an armored shell", though. You could use Space Marine parts, but replace the shoulder pads and heads with more SoB power armor style parts. I think that removing the shoulders and heads would go a long way towards making them not as recognizable as SM. A different backpack as well, perhaps.

Well I don't think the look of Space Marine Power Armor is quite appropriate, I'm looking more for the sleeker, more compact armor than the "walking church bell with enormous shoulders" look. Replacing the shoulder pads could be a nifty trick

If you went with robed legs, smaller shoulder pads, and smaller heads, you could probably make due with SM pwoer armor.

Hmm...maybe.
The ideal look would be sort of a fusion of the Protector on the cover of Mechanicum
http://archivodenobbs.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/mechanicum.jpg
with one of General Grievous' bodyguards
http://www.mocpages.com/user_thumbnails/neodragonm@yahoo.com/www.homestead.com_anakin_sky_news_ep3_magna_guard.jpg_SPLASH.jpg
It looks like the only way to achieve this kind of effect is with MASSIVE greenstuff work...just what I was afraid of

For that Grievous bodyguard-protector combo you could use necrons with robed dark angel heads and some greenstuff.
With a bit of remodelling you could make the necrons stand more upright.

I just saw a tutorial on straightening necron Warrior legs...I'll definitely use those, but I also still want there to be a recognisably human "core" to these guys. What armored parts would scale well with the Necron Legs?

I don't have my bitzbox with me right now but I could throw out an idea or two to help. Sorry if I say any combinations that might not fit together.
Head - Whatever you find suitable.
Torso - 40k Cadian torsos
Arms - 40k Space Marine Tactical arms (or Chaos Space Marines if you prefer the large gauntlet over the the large wrist-trim look, which would give more of the feel of Sisters)
Backpack - 40k Space Marine backpack (or SOME sort of suitable backpack to store that nuclear generator or whatever powerarmor is said to run off of.)
Legs - 40K Eldar Guardian, or even some WHFB Maraders of Chaos if they're small enough.
For the pauldrens it really depends on what sort of design you want. If you want the Sisters' style then your easiest best is to resin cast and mold one of the metal models, carve everything off the pauldrens, then hallow them out so you can mount them on shoulders, and make copies of it. It might be a bit of work but I bet it'd be worth.
