In particular, a fell beast and a hive tyrant to get a winged tyrant.

I started with the fell trunk and put the tyrant hip underneath cutting a bit of the tail off. Then some clay (the only material I can work well with) to smooth it up.

Then the tyrant shoulders had some spikes glued on the underside. The legs had the hooves clipped off to give the fell beast claws a place.

The fell neck had the tyrant head on and I thinned the fell jaws to give the tyrant a second set of teeth, NomNom right? The arms/hands were cut up between the tyrant and a warriors to give dual talons. Props to Yakface for the 2 scything on a hand look.

Just above the leg you can see a nid weapon barrel bit I had give some detail on that blank white space. I also used the fell base shaved down to fit onto the 40k base.

Then in between the shoulders I put a gland bit and scale bits. The thin stand wasn't balanced for the weight so I dug into some plumbing supplies and used a flange. It was the same height as the 40k stand and thick to support the extra weight. A little cutting and it was flush under the fell chest and against tyrant hip piece. A few claws and it looks like a part of the trunk.

Another few and here you can see the tyrant tail was covered in barbed scales for a dino bash look. At this time it was glued to the fell tail and after I primed broke...so magnetized it became.

So here's some shots of it primed white for my snow based nid fleet and hopefully I won't need any more dreads for my battle report. Last note, the arms, tail and wings are magnetized for transport which, sadly, I didn't realize I needed to plan for until the main body was assembled onto the stand. Still, c&c please.

WOW!! That is REALLY impressive. I am not sure I like the long neck, but if you like it go with it.

That is easily one of the best pieces of converting I have seen in the last year.

I love the way you used the body section of the fell beast. Looks pretty sweet. I agree that the neck may be a bit long. I canibilized a fell beast to convert my tyrant as well.

I have to agree that the neck is a bit much, but the rest looks pretty damn good.

As the other posters already said previously, the body is pure win (consider it stolen for a Harpy), but the neck length seems a little wrong to me.

That is probably the coolest, most original looking HT I have ever seen - fantastic job!

Thanks for the comments, I went with the fell neck to give the sense that if the talons missed it could dip it's head and use that extra set of teeth. I've been doing the base gray on the armor/spikey bits and will probably have more pics up next week.

But looking at it with 6 gargoyles I may have modeled for disadvantage. It's too tall to have it's los blocked by the gargoyles.

What d'ya think? If I was your opponent, would you let the flyrant get a cover save or should I model a few gargoyles with taller bases to shows differences in altitude of horde-ness. Yesh, typing that one out feels like modeling for advantage...

It's not going to get cover from a few gargoyles anyway, since it is an MC and needs 50% of it's body to be covered and I doubt you will ever achieve that on such a big model

It is fine and cool as it is... just make sure you play on a board with lots of tall buildings

flying tyrants get shot to bits. It's what they do. As I recall, mine never survived a single game. That being said, he ate marines like they were potato chips and easily earned 3x his points back, especially the way he embarrassed enemy armor.

Just like the others, I agree that the neck really is too long, but it's a fantastic model nonetheless
