I'm finally doing it. I've wanted to hit this big red button for a long time, and I'm finally doing it. What is your religion/veiws upon religion? Now in the countries where GW is most prevalent (i.e. UK, USA), christianity is dominant, but in nerd culture, I personally see a lot of aithiests and agnostics. Please not that this is an open forum, so please keep it clean, and no hatin. just to make sure everyone sees this:

BE POLITE!!! NO

So anyway, I am personally a Lutheran.

I am what you could call a Vanilla Christian. I really don't go to church, but I do believe in the message of Christ and his teachings. I also view the Bible as not just gospel, but as a book of lessons about life. A lot of the passages to me are metaphors for situations that occur in your life. I also think that God does many small miracles instead of having epic miracles. I have no problem with athiests or agnostics. They help strengthen my resolve in the word of God.

I'm pantheist, although it's more of a philosophy than a religion considering that I don't actually worship anything. I was raised Catholic, but I started asking question at an early age, around when I was going through First Communion. After being forced to go through with confirmation against my will by my parents I decided to quit and figure out things for myself instead of being told what to believe. It took me a while to figure things out but I got there eventually. Pantheism is not an organized religion, I don't attend any kind of services and I don't worship anything. I believe that there is an inherent sort of divinity if you will, in nature. Since there is no dogmatic beliefs or strict rules in pantheism, each individual pantheist may have their own variations on their beliefs. I personally think of the universe as a single, semi-conscious entity, of which all living things are a part. Like cells in a human body. I don't believe in any supernatural beings or divine gods. To me, the universe and god are simply one and the same.

I went to non-denomination military churches most of my life. Don't enjoy church though. Dreadfully boring. Theology classes in college were far more interesting than anything the pastors ever talked about.

I would probably fit more in towards the Baptist line of thought than any other though.

My only belief is that the Saints played a dirty game and paid the refs to look the other way......

Oh, religious belief? Lutheran. I believe God exists and I believe I don't have to prove he exists. Non-believers can no more prove God doesn't exist than I can prove he exists.

I also believe that right around page 5 or 6 this thread will go down in flames, just like jesse james (cookie for anyone who can tell me what song the last line eludes to).

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

It's an aimless thread though so the flames won't really begin until someone says something mindless and disrespectful. Thats not the easiest thing to do without a topic at hand to insult.

i'm an agnostic who leans towards theism, but not in the 'sentient god' way (that is not consistent with what i've seen of the universe), but teleologically.

i have no reason to believe there's any factual truth to religious texts. moral relevance, however, is another story.

I was raised christian, but my family stopped going to church before I took part in any sort of religous ceremony other then baptism.
My family stopped going to church when I was six or so.

I eventually found a book about Buddhism in my school library when I was ten. I was intrigued, so I read up on it, and eventually told my parents
a year or so later I was a buddhist, they at first didn't kow how to react, so they didn't.

Eventually I realised that though at the core of my beliefs I am a fusion of Christanity/Buddhism, rather then being one or the other entirely, and I believe that
by the time my life ends, my "religon/code of ethics/whatever" will incorparate many other aspects of other religons.

Raised Catholic, defected to Lutheranism. Not a practicing Lutheran, as I personally believe my relationship with God, is just that My Relationship. I don't feel a need to preach to anyone or listen when someone tried to "convert me".

As someone with a mohawk and tattoos people try to "convert me" a lot which is something I find distasteful about organized religion as a whole. Get to know me and my beliefs first, it is a simple request.

The Jesse James reference is KILLING ME!!!!! PM me the answer pls?

I'm an agnostic, I guess. I feel that there has to be something out there that we might perceive as God, whether It's an actual deity or something so far beyond us that we would consider it Godlike.

I do have a lot of respect for the teachings of Jesus, and though I'm not a practicing Christian I try to live by the Golden Rule. Buddhism makes a lot of sense to me as well.

I would also like to think that the OT trolls would leave this alone so that the OP would actually get out of this thread what he hoped to...

Not tryign to troll, jsut want an honest response.

By something out there, do you mean karma, juju, hell, the Force? (I had a statistic somwhere where people in Britain claimed a religon as Jedi)

By Golden Rule, I'm assuming "Do unto others, as you would have done unto you.", right? Or do you mean 'GES is always right and awesome?"

I suppose what I'm saying is that occasionally humankind might come into contact with entities or forces that we can't understand and we consider them in our not-too-far-removed-from-the-jungle brains to be God or Gods or whatever. Take the idea of directed panspermia for example. The civilization that seeded the earth with biological material would technically be our "creator". Or at least an argument could be made for this idea, let's not derail the thread with semantics. Even the esteemed Mr. Dawkins doesn't think this idea is too crazy, as he stated himself in that Ben Stein documentary.

And while either of your interpretations of the Golden Rule could be correct, I tend to gravitate toward the former.

And Arthur C Clarke is one of my all time favorites.

Forever alone

I had a crisis of faith, but now I'm just indifferent. You want to believe in God and follow the Bible? Fine by me, but don't abuse its teachings.

I wish people would make more effort to understand religion instead of demonising it. Blame the people, not the religion.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I'm not a religious guy. I like religion, the prose, art and morales of various faiths are extremely interesting to me. I like a lot of the rituals, and think it's a very good thing that churches form social groups that raise local issues- it's an effective form of charity.

It's just... I don't believe in God.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Raised Catholic. baptised, first communion, and confirmation. Went to church with the old man, papa Khornholio, until around the end of high school. I still went with him the odd time when I get back home now and then. I figure JC was a pretty right on guy and his message of being excellent to one another is what we should be trying to do. Unfortunately, as people we tend to feth up a lot. I have problems with the church and all their dogmatic BS. Reading Procopius' Secret History, detailing the compiling of the bible was the icing on the cake.

Now, living in a Buddhist country where almost everyone is unreligious for quite a while, has had an effect on my outlook. I'm a pretty spiritual guy. I believe some of what Darwin said answers 'How', not 'Why'. I reckon there is a God, creator of the multi-verse. I reckon we reincarnate here, alternate universes, other planets, etc. When you die, you probably judge yourself free of your ego. Who knows for sure? No one. Life's a never ending wheel.

On aside, my bet is this thread is locked and cast into the sea page 3 or 4. I was wrong with the Mosque in NYC thread. I figured that would be nuked by the mods by page 4.

Also, for the sake of trolling, how can someone justify being a Christian after all that Hitler did?!
