The space wolf in term armour looks great with that axe, very impressive Para.

I think that's very well done Para... the SW can be difficult, especially if you want to do something other than GW cookie-cutter.

Damn Para, the green on the Liberator is fantastic! It's a strangely great mix of marble and a deep copper oxide. Looks like the correct texture as well, a tremendous model IMO.

As for the Wolf, I too dislike baby blue for them, though I think you could still get away with making them dark grey. However, the colour you've chosen has struck a good balance between light and dark. My favourite part has to be the axe-head, I'm a sucker for cool Power weapon effects. The base work is pretty good too, if not a tad bare. I would put something on one of the sides of the rock, just to add a bit of variation on the base. The overall technique is fine, but I feel it does need a bit of something. A great model Para, is there any chance of seeing any more Wolves on the blog?

Cheers folks.

@Warboss: I actually planned to put a Thousand Sons head on the base, I know there's a couple in my bits box but for the moment I can't find one. It'll be added in when I do find it for sure, as I agree it could use something else besides the snow and blood.

There is a definite possibility of more Wolves on the blog in the non-too-distant future. Now I've finally figured out a recipe for the armour, I've got a whole bunch of models that I feel I can do justice to that I just didn't manage to on previous attempts, so I'd like to revisit those soon enough. At the very least, next time I'm home I'll be cracking some more Termies, Bjorn The Fell Handed and maybe a Thunderwolf out of storage to see what can be done with them.

'When Cadia fell, She rose.
When Demons trod, She soared.
When Hope died, She survived.

Of Celestine, The Living Saint, Angel of the Emperor, at the Fall of Cadia

The design philosophy behind this model from Wargame Exclusive seems to have been 'This one goes to eleven. It's one more'. And frankly, I think that's awesome. Since it came out, I've always thought the new Celestine from GW was a bit bland and almost generic, whereas this one is 40k all over, the embodiment of a baroque medieval warrior nun space angel, gloriously over the top. I think by painting the stomach area as an undersuit rather than bare like the sculpt seems to imply I managed to make her look 'practical' enough, I considered sculpting on some armour there but the model is deceptively tiny and it would just have looked naff.

Paint-wise, I tried to keep things pretty subdued, the nmm gold is quite strong but not particularly shiny, so she'll stand out without looking out of place if I ever use her alongside any of my other models (though given the parchments are the only thing holding her up, she might be a bit fragile to game with!)

I might not get much painted for a week or so now as it's the last week of the semster, ie exam time, so in the mean time, thanks for looking, any thoughts of course welcome!

I think she's beautiful Para... though I do think the hair bends in too much with the rest. You want it so that it framers her face & draws your attention to it.

Cheers Gits. The hair I probably ought to darken a little, it's come out a lot lighter in the pics (it's more of a mid-brown rather than the dark blond it shows up as), but I will see about adding another black wash.

I painted in sub-assemblies so the backpack/halo weren't there when I did the hair/face, so the lack of contrast wasn't so much of an issue, but now it's all together I definitely ought to see to it.

Gorgeous Celestine dude, I really dig this. She's got your gritty style written all over her but has a bit more of a lighter palette that implies the hope she signifies. Another home run man.

Sweet work Para. She's looking great. I would agree with increasing the contrast somewhat esp in the nmm golds adn the red cloak. Overall though what a stunning piece

Now that is what Celestine should look like. Baroque in the extreme. You're right that the GW model looks a little bland, especially next to that.

Great idea painting the skin as an undersuit. I've never much liked the whole 'basically topless, but still on a battlefield' trope you get with a lot of 3rd party minis. Usually accompanied by breasts so large they'd give them +1A in CC. Turrible. Only exceptions are for Slaanesh daemons because that's basically what they're all about, the Dark Eldar because they probably enjoy the sensation of getting shot (or the exhilaration of nearly getting shot), and anyone who wants to make some creepy as hell techno-warrior/barbarian with bionic implants contrasted against bare skin.

Anyway, enough rambling! Congrats on making Celestine exactly as she should be!

Cheers folks, glad you like her. She's probably up there with the longest time I've spent on a model; the Angron I did a couple of years ago was about 10-12 hours but that included 3 Marines and a 60mm base, whereas Celestine was a solid few days work even without that.

Should have something else to show soon as I've managed to get some breathing space by finishing some work a bit earlier than expected, not as impressive a model as Celestine but I've got a feeling it's going to be quite a nice little piece.

The Wolftime has come! I promised a few more of these chaps a while ago, and here they are, the remaining Wolf Guard Terminators ready to bring some Wolfy goodness to the enemies of mankind!

Termie with a pair of Wolf Claws, all the better for slicing and dicing you with:

Basic Fist/Bolter guy, who's retained a silver arm from his time in the Deathwatch (because you know me, I'll find a way to get the DW into anything! )

The squad's heavy with Assault Cannon and Chainfist.

And the boss man (boss wolf?), ostensibly a Wolf Lord but if these guys ever see the tabletop he'll probably just be the squad leader. Pretty damn pleased with his cape to be honest, I think I managed a nice smoothness while still keeping some texture and contrast to it.

And the whole gang:

That's all for now. Maybe more Wolves coming soon, it depends on how well this scheme translates to Power Armoured guys. If not then I'm sure there'll be at least something coming pretty soon, all these guys were done in a day so I'm on a roll motivation-wise!

Until then, thanks for looking, any thoughts welcome!

Lovely work on Celestine. I may have to pick up that WGE version of the model sometime after seeing yours. The terminator wolfpack also looks great. They're going to be very nasty on the table in 8th!

Thanks all!

I'm kind of half paying attention to where 8th is going to be honest, it's been so long since I played 7th (or anything) that I can't really gauge many of the changes I'm hearing about... On the off chance I do get some games in though, I imagine Termies of some sort will still feature in any SM list I make, regardless of how good or not they are. Termies and Dreads are the most iconic models in 40k to me, so both could be utter garbage and I'd still play them 9 times out of 10!

Incidentally, I'm kind of torn on the new Primaris marines as well. I really don't like the fluff around them at all, but as a painter first and foremost, I can't deny the idea of basically having a larger canvas to work on does appeal to me. Especaially with stuff like weathering and 'special effects', the standard Power Armour can be a bit limiting (hence my love of painting TDA).

Chances are if I do end up getting some, I'll be treating them for all intents and purposes as original Marines, probably using old (ie. current) style bolters, helmets ect to give them more of a true-scale regular marine vibe. I'm hoping the next WD will come with a freebie one like the Stormcast when AoS launched, as I would like to get my hands on one just to test it out.

Oh, and speaking of Dreads... well, stay tuned over the next week or so... Spoilers!
