Hmm..My only complaints are that the wires on the thunder hammer look a little wierd, and that the crux terminatus is almost hovering above the shoulder, which is a little strange. Looks ace

My only issue with this is that the guy's shoulders are apparently located above his head.

Hey, you found a pcicture of me!

That is what I think of when I think about a Space Marine, pretty much everything that is manly rolled up into one suit of power armor. Kind of liek John Wayne.

Agreed, though this has been a problem for GW and Terminator armor for some time now...

This is not just a problem on the rendered image, it's common to all GW's Termie models, which the artist used as reference material. I have just completed a conversion of the Lysander model for my own chapter and I had to lower the arms by about 3 or 4mm to try and get the anatomy more like it should be.

Bothers me that he used my grandmothers curtains for a cape. Should have used another texture for that.
And that the armour is on one hand damaged and on the other hand mirror-shiny (like on his ribcage under his left armpit)

I think they're robotic arms anyway, those elbow joints don't look like they incorporate much room for a superhuman arm.

Nice detailing, but odd mix of PA with a TDA "hood"
____

Looking at it more, it really bothers me that the anatomy is completely wrong with his head below his shoulders. If you look at where the arms sit, with the forearm-elbow projecting shoulder location, seeing the head with a inverted neck (like a turtle) just irks the hell out of me.

Perhaps the modeler should have spent more time on the basic skeleton before adding all of the detail.

It's too gracile for Terminator armour, especially the legs, but it doesn't follow the design of Power armour. Not to say the actual rendering is bad, but that it deviates too much from established material.

That's not a Space Marine. It's not bald and screaming.

The biggest problem, not necessarily with this piece of art, but of the base subject. If you were to make a "Marine" with anatomically correct armour, it would simply not look like a Space Marine....the base concept being so flawed its laughable.

However, I see this as a good thing, because if someone wanted to generate some models "based" on Space Marines, but to correct human proportions and anatmoy, it'd be so different that the I.P Police wouldn't have a leg to stand on....

Heh, anatomy.

The base SM is smaller outside of his armor than a Catachan.

Not a bad picture I have seen worse digital renderings although it does hi light the age old probllem with Space marines which is they just wouldn't work in the real world but they look cool in miniature form. I saw some bulked up Space marines on coolminiornot.com a while back which adressed the problem of marines being smaller than Catachens not sure how they did it though. Unfortunatly I think GW are to far down the line to improve the Space marine designs now I always think a standard marine should be the bulk of a terminator and terminators should be some what larger but not as massive as a dreadnaught.

Or, they could just shrink the IG models down to size.

I've heard people say that the Death Corps of Krieg models by Forgeword are 'proportionately correct' (PC...), but I'm personally not a fan of the GW "bigger is better" stuff where a Warlord/Primarch is bigger than a Boss/Captain, which is bigger than a Nob/Sergeant, which is bigger than a Boy/Marine, which is bigger than a Grot/Human.

Though it is kind of cool to suppose Imperial Guard Heavy Bolters give you a sense of relative scale.

Are GW SM Captains & Sergeants really larger than Marines?

I hear what your saying and I agree except on the Warboss/Nobz scale they have a reason to be bigger than the ordinary troops of their race

Nope. Unless you count fancy hats. I'm not really sure what Nurglitch is talking about. Obviously Orks' size denotes their position in Ork society...isn't that written into their background?
Even if Sm were the same size as regular humans they'd still be bigger than them in power armour.

Nelson cocked up the scale with the Cadians, there was no reason for them to be that chunky. The art for the last 7 years or so has really pushed the sheer bulk of a marine making the disparity in the miniatures more obvious.

Really it's just another weapon in the online GW commentators arsenal of whines and doesn't bother me. Certainly not enough to convert my upcoming Lamenters army to "True Scale" or whatever people are calling that now.

Yeah, both the plastic Catachans and Cadians are both inexcusable feth ups in terms of scale. GW really screwed the pooch with the plastic IG.

The 3E+ SMs grew considerably from 2E, to say nothing of how small and spindly they were back in RT. But within the SM range, it appears to me that all plastic SMs are largely consistent size-wise.

Compared to metal IG (e.g. ASL, Stormies), the plastic IGs are just way too big. For how much they distort the overall game scale, GW really should have pulled both lines and redone them 20% smaller, just a hair taller than LotR.
