Hello and welcome to my first ever P+M blog. My conversion and painting skills are not the best, but in this blog I will try to improve these skills as much as possible. Comments and advice would be very much appreciated. Some updates may take a while so please bear with me.
Now some of you may have seen the wonderful new greatcoat troopers from Wargames Factory. I immediately purchased a 57 man box set, perfect for one large platoon. However due to various shipping problems (BP did not help) the order arrived THREE MONTHS late. However being the considerate people they are, they very kindly gave me 33 more troops as well as two other boxes of unrelated products. (thanks WGF!) Anyway at last I have been able to start a blog of building them.
When I first saw them I immediately thought of Nod from the various Tiberium games. I aim to have the colour scheme and various symbols and small conversions to make a nod-like army (I am not going to go the full way, the army will remain largely 40k based).
The army will be made up of nod militants, each squad led by a confessor. There will also be a platoon command squad and heavy weapons teams. Some vehicles could possibly be added later on.
(p.s sorry about the cardboard bases, I did not have enough plastic ones)
Here are the first few WIP shots of militant squad no1:

I understand you are on a budget but cardboard bases (not even round!), come on. You can get bases for pretty cheap example: http://cgi.ebay.com/WARHAMMER-40K-BITS-TYRANID-20x-SMALL-ROUND-BASES-/230482383558?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0#ht_802wt_912 and that's probably not the best price around.
But if you can't afford bases go for those http://www.gf9.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=64&products_id=369.
In the event you can't even afford those get a compass (starting at 1$), an exacto (starting at 2$) and some non corrugated cardboard/plasticard (starting at less than 0.50$ a sheet) and start cutting away.

Fluff and Background:
The planet Nigra is situated in Ultima Segmentum, directly on the southern boarder of the Tau Empire. The planet itself is a sprawling hive world, supplying the local sectors with a huge amount of manpower and machinery. It is famed for being one of the largest suppliers of oil and promethium in the entirety of Ultima Segmentum. Huge petro-chemical works are found in vast quantities in every hive, churning out millions of tons of petrol, gas, oil and plastics every day. In addition to this Nigra holds an abundant supply of rarer minerals within its crust, used amongst many other things for laser focusing crystals and plasma fusion cores. These are guarded jealously by the Nigran inhabitants, only selling them at the highest prices, causing much suspicion from the Mechanicum of Mars. These myriad of raw materials draw the foes of mankind aplenty to Nigra like moths to a flame. Therefore Nigra is one of the most heavily defended planets for hundreds of light years. The mainstay of its defense are billions of willing men and women who make up the Nigran Imperial Guard.
The Nigran divisions wear the classic greatcoats and gas-masks of the hive world defender, coupled with plated flack vests and the now rare but easy to mass produce L92 pattern lasrifle. Unlike other hive worlds like Armageddon they do not make a mass use of mechanized infantry, preferring the tried and tested method of swathe after swathe of infantry. However this does not mean they are lacking in armour, the tank divisions of Nigra are famed for their rugged endurance and relentless advance. Each squad of infantry is led by a highly skilled veteran known as a confessor, who is given superior armour, the more powerful and large L137 lasrifle and the iconic red cape. The symbol of Nigra is a black scorpion tail, symbolizing the highly enduring and venomous "Dark Scorpion" native to Nigra.
More COULD come in the future....

Sorry no update today (I just received Starcraft II and wanted to give it a try!) but heres some more fluff:
Geography of Nigra
Nigra is situated directly on the southern boarder of the Tau Empire in Ultima Segmentum. It is located in the capital system of Cyo in the sub-sector of Cycyasis. The first planet in the cyo system is a small lifeless rock, baked hard by the nearby star, much like our present mercury. The second planet is larger and cooler than the first with a thin atmosphere and containing a bounty of metal ores within its surface, a large mining community is situated here. The third planet is the capital of the sub-sector, the world of Cyon. The planet is much like our present day earth and is classed as "Civilized" in imperial terms. It has a population of around 11 billion and is ruled from one huge hive called "Cyclonia City". Its population varies from abject poverty, living in almost medieval lifestyles all the way to rich lords, who enjoy the finest foods and technologies man can provide. On the whole its populace is happy and rases many Imperial Guard regiments itself. The world is protected by a vast ring of defense lasers and nuclear missiles, however its first and foremost defense comes in the form of the Cyclops Astartes Chapter which makes its fortress monastery on this planet.
The fourth planet in the system is Nigra itself. Its surface surprisingly for a hive world is still covered by around 40% water, however due to the vast output of waste by the hundreds of hives, the ocean is little more than a polluted slurry. Many areas of its seas are covered with soaring oil rigs, connected to thousands of kilometers of undersea habitation and pipelines, all digging greedily for the black gold beneath the sea. The atmosphere is thick with pollution and greenhouse gasses from industrial output. An unprotected man would not survive five minutes unprotected on the surface. However this thick atmosphere is what protects Nigra, without it the planet would more closely represent our current day Mars. The planet is the industrial powerhouse of the system, converting trillions of tons of ore from the second planet into every item imaginable. Huge orbital cannons protect it, as well as a dedicated defense fleet.
The Fifth planet is a huge gas giant like our current Jupiter, and very much like the Jupiter of the 41stM Its moons are home to the massive shipyards of the system. Gas mining operations are also performed in its upper atmosphere. The last planet in the system is a large agri world, responsible for feeding the system, mainly Nigra it has a population of around three billion.
All these factors mean the cyo system can be completely self sufficient if need be, but also enjoys trade with nearby systems in times of peace
(P.S mold lines are being eradicated!)

Im currently working on some heavy weapons teams, pics should be up soon. In the meantime heres some more fluff:
It is said in the imperial creed that the Emperor works through all things to help and protect his subjects. Everything belongs to the Emperor and humanity only looks after what belongs to him. To the Nigrans this is a debt that must be payed, they must "Confess" their sins to the emperor to thank him for all that has been given to them. This debt is most commonly payed on the battlefield, most confess their sins through death but some live long enough to confess their sins and still be alive. "Confession" is given to those exceptional soldiers who manage through years of unswerving loyalty to truly pay their debt to the Emperor. These men are known as "Confessors" and are given command of a squad of men to act as an example to those below him. To aid them in this service, Confessors are given superior body armour than their brethren easily identified by flat, full face helms. They also carry far larger and more devastating guns than their brethren easily identified by their long barrel. But most important of all they earn a the iconic red cloak, embroided with the shadow scorpion tail. It is considered a huge honor to receive the cloak, and the deepest shame to loose it in combat. Only Confessors may join a command squad or become officers. Sometimes when their skill is badly needed they are grouped into ten man confessor squadrons. Due to the rich abundance of petro-chemical works on Nigra this makes them ideal for the production of specialized flame weapons and napalm. The finest blend of promethium burns with a bright blue flame and an extraordinary temperature, this is known as "Purifying Flame". Only ten man confessor squadrons are allowed to use such a weapon, as its volatility makes it a hard weapon to use. It is easy in some circumstances for ones hand to be singed black by over use of purifying flame, earning these confessor squadrons the nick name of "The Black Hand"
