Not a guard player, but hydra's have the 4 autocannons right?
I'd say go with a chimera, then add in the quad gun from the aegis defence set.
Use the rounded section to mount it on the hull.
Problem solved.

Yeah, that would probably be the easiest way, or, if you're more of the spending money rather than time variety, the FW upgrade kit.
Personally, I'd just make my own. Either take 4 autocannons from HWSs or use 4 bits of hollow aluminum/plasticard tubing. Making the mount shouldn't be all that terribly hard.

ive seen something similar done with a basilisk. the platform has no basilisk cannon and instead has the defence line autocannons. i think i might try doing that way

No, it doesn't.
There's ONLY the FW one.

Just like the Griffon, some things you just gotta make yourself.
The Hellhound might make a good platform to work with. It's got a nice empty back area you can put the AA guns in.

Friend of mine went the whole "Aegis Line quad-autocannons" route. Only he cut the barrels and lengthened them with plastic tubing. Looks great, I think.

Some folks still have old GW griffons lying around (they were a GW model before FW got to redo them in resin).
I used turrets from Old Crow (it's one of their multi-missile turrets with extra cannon barrels) for mine and they look the part. They are different from FW kits in that no effort was needed to straighten out the banana barrels that they come with (OC have very clean casts that require bugger-all work done to them).
Added a washer and a spare slotta base to the turret base and it fits the standard turret mount used by GW for their Rhino models.
My Hydra tank hulls themselves were scratchbuilt from plasticard and spare GW wheels and tracks, and have the rhino turret mount plate fitted to the back section.

The Aegis ACs look OK but I think the autoloader mechanisms aren't quite beefy enough for the heavier Hydra cannon.
Hence I went with Predator lascannon sponsons with after-market barrels.

This was my solution. hws autocannons + sentinel cockpit and driver. All bits came from the warstore and it cost less than $50 for three hydra weapons platforms. Chimeras sold separately

that's a really nice conversion (I was just thinking to myself last night of the idea of a sentinel cab to make a hydra. The problem, though, is that, as you say, it costs like $12 apiece.
For those destined towards penury, something a little more scratchbuilt is required.
