Wow. I mean wow. the paint really pulled that together. I have to admit that I had no idea where you were going w/ all that and was wondering how you were going to pull it off. You did, it is awesome, and I'm looking forward to more.

Yeah, gamer ADD rocks - hence why I'm not fiddling with the shrine tonight!

Thanks mate high praise indeed, but it ain't done yet!

Not really speaking of which, further proof concept, mounted on correct hull.

I can't find the kneeling sob I made for this very frustrating, although it'll materialise at some point, I'm sure.

The temple is coming along great , needs more body parts littering it though. The red x on the wall panels helps it out a lot.

The missile launchers on the exorcist are fantastic as well.

GW employees nothing else needs to be said.

Corpses: well, yes and no, it has to be a playable piece of terrain. Also, with the pit in place (which has 4 victims) the relative lack of corpses is less obvious. Once it's painted, the plethora of body parts that are randomly scattered around will become more obvious too, hopefully. The prisoners are a sob, soul drinker and iyandendar so they should draw the eye, too.
More generally, I am really pleased with the temple, but I'm still at a loss how to make the flames look right. I think just metalled is the way forward. I have added more colour - blocked in blues, greens on all spike tips (jade/obsidian a la my gk weapons), and lots of white, but will wait till I'm a bit further along to show pics. Want to get the quickshade on the large red blocky bits first.

MLs were not working and I was playing around with a pile of bits - they just came together nicely. They look surprisingly realstic for grimdark; i hate the pipe organ exorcist model and I had to find a way not to buy another kit to strip for parts. The next challenge will be sobinator #3...

GW employees - I can't be too harsh. One of the lads in our local GW is a former pupil of mine and a good lad, the manager's a good guy too. But their minions should be yellow and wearing goggles (soeaking of which, off to a preview of Despicable Me 2 later, possibly more excited than the kids!)

And also, on the subject of GW employees, one of my closest friends sent me a pic of my birthday supply drop. He used to be a GW staffer and eavy metal painter, now runs local flgs.

This it so far... Disregard the Ben folds album, that's mine, but to me that looks like a big old pile of nerd crack!
Also, the wife now Hates Vik for planting ideas:

and that doesn“t look like a birthday present... more like christmas, the shee amount of it is overwhelming...when all that gets to you we demand a close look... details or else!

Oo, an idea for the flames. You could do them as you might normal fire, but using bronze instead of red, gold instead of orange and silver instead of yellow... That could look cool...

will this one explode too?????

at least the debris will be edible

and we watched Despicable Me (1) in the telly the other week... and saw a teaser of the second one before watching EPIC... and the kids would love to see the new one... would you say a five year old would stand the second movie?

and tell her to make some laser beams... you could use chocolate sticks or candy for the base... and have a small cassete/mp3 player around with that recharging humming sound

My boys are 5 and 3, and loved it. Cake has peanut butter ganache - anaphylactic Death Star - and will have green candle for super laser. I'm a lucky guy.

It really is brilliant, although because we managed to get to see a preview we got the trailer for it as well, which was... odd.

Gitsplitta wrote:Wow... that is a marvelous creation! (peanut butter... yum!)

Yeah, she's talented - although actually it tends to be me that bakes the chocolate cakes, as I seem to get a more consistent finish. It's a pretty fast-and-loose recipe, more like a cook than a bake, which I think suits me!

Thanks Bri. Sorry I didn't get to chat to you the other day when you were up, when are you back - over the summer at all?

Gracias amigo!

So, here's progress on the Shrine:

I need to make sure I include as many nods to as many of my regulars as possible. There's a good number of SM helms on this thing already (if you're observant, you'll notice the start of a Tranq MW, a Firehawk, and some others too).
There's also a 1-week extension on the contest, thank gods, so I might actually get it done!

Awesome socks Graven. Love that shrine.

Thanks for coming over to say hello when I was up. The plan had originally been to catch up on the Battletech campaign over the weekend so Tuesday would be free for chatting and mingling, but that fell through.

Was great to see everyone, even if I didn't get a chance to chat. Not bac up until Xmas now I'm afraid.

and that preview with teaser.. it is kinda like a reassurance in marketing to the buyer that he indeed has got the piece he was looking for...with a big wallop around his ears... for good measure

Hey Graven!

You're blog had been at the very top of my 'to read' thread for ages! I want to be able to tell you that I've just finished it but there is something within the pages that is very incompatible with my phone browser. I've persevered but I'm putting my hands up and giving in now, I've asked Lego to look into it so hopefully he can sort it out. Until then I'll join your from here on in.

From what I managed to see I really loved your Marines and your current projects look great too, keep it up mate! I'm working on a little 40k army so I can give you that game one day!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow!

@selvaggio - Graz' on both counts!
@Casey - I'm honoured to be such a troublemaker! Marines may make a return with 6th ed codex, and I suspect there may be some in the birthday aid package from StoneyBoy

A good day all round. Made, and ate, a lot of curry, with a sizeable chunk of mrs g's family.
Also, there was cake, and lego by the older boy

Issues with scale, clearly a future with GW for that lad.
Tomorrow, work. Boo... Still, toys, cake and pizza. Huzzah!
