I want to know when was the latest price increase and if anyone know of any site that listed the price of all the products before and after price increase. Would prefer if it is in U.S price listing, but other currency is fine as well. Thanks

I think this is the worst time to start but I really want like 40K and I worry the price will only increase more later on.

Oh lastly is it true that all products has increase by 30 to 33% (only assuming from AOBR)?

What do you guys think?

ITs true prices have gone up. The present is always the worst time to start 40k. Prices always go up never go down etc. However if you really want to platy and can afford the prices you should start playing.

No time like the present. Prices will alway increase and with an increase in VAT in the UK in the near future, expect another price rise soon (yay!).

Your best bet is to buy online from discount retailers. I think that Wayland Games is the company of choice in the USA, but have a look around (quite a few of them will be on DakkaDakka banners - help support Dakka by clicking!).

You might as well bite the bullet and start now, the prices are far more likely to increase than decrease in the near future.

Nope this is the golden age! Forge World pumps out squads or pre-heresy marines for juicy conversions, we have apocalypse, the Black Library is full to the brim with 40k...

Price is only going one way thanks to inflation, so I recommend finding a reseller (The Warstore (CA/US), Combat Company (AU), Total Wargamer (UK) to name a few good ones) that lets you order for 20-30% off GW prices. You can also buy bits seperately for your conversions

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...

This is the best time ever for 40K. Forget the cost issues; the distribution is in place. Bck in the Rogue Trader days, everything had to be ordered from the UK by the FLGS, and sometmes it came, and sometimes it didn't. Conversions were the order of the day just to make the game work. This is truly the time to play, because you can easily buy what you need for the most part.

I just started this year. Seems like a good time to start. Lots of the metal models are slowly coming out in plastic, such as the Killa Kans and Deff Dread. So the price for them is coming DOWN. Great time to start.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Well he has a point. Juggernaus have gone from 75$ for 3 to 50$ for 3. models are getting easier to assemble.

Fair enough - I get almost all my stuff second hand so I don't tend to look at how much stuff costs these days. I just know that most of it just keeps on increasing in price

RIght now is a worse time to start than yesterday, but tomorrow will be worse than starting today.

Never know when a price increase may come, or a new codex comes out for the army you just started and have to now rebuild.

I believe Wayland is in the U.K and I think you mean The Warstore which is in the U.S

Ordo Dakka

The Warstore is in New York, not CA. And its price is only 20% off current retail price. I believe darksphere and giftforgeeks is cheaper.

gazelle

Would you say this is better than starting in 2007? I would think that distribution would be all over the places as well.

Ugavine

Did you start before the recent price increase? Plastic is easier to do with but metal has more values doesn't it? What army do you have Ugavine, what months did you start in? Do you enjoy it so far? Ugavine and Klawz, I don't know any model that has decrease? Is it a UK thing?

Update: I just got my Cadian Battleforce out of the mail and I have to say I do love it. It still expensive, but since I got it at a discount, the money is easier to swallow.

Do you use all the bits in the sprue? What are flashes and moldline (is flashes the straight line across or is it the blemish after you cut the bits off the sprue? I just need to use files and a hobby knife to remove both of them right? Ok guys this is like the most annoying part of the hobby but it taking forever to remove mold line and flash, is there a quicker way?

I obviously fail in this thread

You don't have to use all the bits (you will get more arms and guns and things than you can use anyway). Removing the flash/mould lines (extra bits of plastic - mould lines are the thin lines on the model parts from the join in the mould and flash is where those mould lines have been extended into larger areas where the mould has not sealed correctly and allowed plastic to flow out of the sprue). does take time but improves the look of the finished model 300%. You can get specialised cutters to remove it (the look kind of like vegetable peelers), you can also use a dremel with a fine sanding tip - faster but you need to be really careful

I started in February this year, before the price increase.
I used to collect Star Wars miniatures (before they got recently cancelled) and the price rises happened with them too. Plastic is oil based, oil prices have gone up, so a hike with 40K didn't really bother me. I'm more peeved with the hike in petrol & food in the UK; I can live without 40K if I need to. But I've spent around £400 on 40K since I started, which is only about the same as I would have spent on Star Wars miniatures in the same time period.

As for metal being worth more, well it costs more. I've not really seen it make much difference on the second-hand miniatures market. And personally I hate working with metal; I'm a gamer, not a modeller, so plastic is much easier for me.

Yes, I very much like 40K. I've still only had a few games, but play again this week. And I am starting to enjoy the modelling too. I mainly collect and play Orks but have a small Space Wolves force as well.

As for prices. I'm in the UK, and shortly after I started playing they released the plastic Killa Kans and Deff Dread. You now get three plastic Killa Kans for the price of a single metal one, and as I said above I prefer the plastic models. I see that as a price drop.

When buying generally it depends how fussy you are on your models. I do like new models, I prefer to assemble my models myself or at the least paint them myself (even though my painting sucks). But online sites are your friend, eBay has been great for getting a some cheap models. And as I buy Orks I build my mobs up by buying boyz from the Assault on Black Reach set; sure they're basic models but I don't mind that.

The community for 40k is bigger than ever, and there's thriving places to talk about it like here on Dakka, or on a variety of other forums. There's a hell of a starter box if you're interested in either of the two armies it holds, and the amount of plastic these days is staggering. As mentioned before though, the prices are only going up. You can mitigate this by buying on eBay or discount sites like the Warstore (today on eBay I got about $180 of Tyranids for $100 on the dot) but it's still an expensive hobby. If you compare it to any other hobbies it really isn't that bad though.

So I'm just going to echo everybody else's sentiments - it's a great time for everything but the pricing (and White Dwarf, I guess), but that pricing ain't getting better.

I disagree with this notion. The BA codex is not clearly superior to the SW codex nor is the Nid codex clearly better than the IG codex. All the 5th ed codexi are about on par (or close to it) with each other.

I can agree with everyone else on here about starting now, I started about 6 months ago and went through the price increase but its only going to get higher with inflation. I definitely recommend amazon and ebay, the warstore and wayland games, use the internet for what its for and get some good deals.

I dont think anyone has mentioned ebay. You can find some good deals on there, just be sure the seller has a high positive rating. MacPac is one of the ebay sellers and ive never had a problem out of him. His prices are not dirt cheap, but for new in the box minis he's about the best ive found.

The price has gone up , and it will keep going up. Dont pray for the day GW will make their products cheaper.
So if you feel you MUST try warhammer eventually , then do it now then later.

I ordered from him extensively, until I got a boxed set of assault marines that had been crushed (and ruined). His response was essentially "too bad". Part of the reason that you get a lower price on ebay is that you're willing to accept that if there is a problem, the support is nonexistent, generally. I've since gone exclusively to Amazon and only use ebay for bits or things that ares so cheap I'm willing to risk it.

And yes, I did contact GWS, and yes, they did replace it, even though it was on ebay. Kudos to GWS.

I started last summer and I haven't really noticed any signiicant price hikes. I get most of my stuff from chaosorc.com, although I recently discovered bitkingdom and they seem to have some pretty good prices. Also of you know anyone who doesn't play anymore, buy models from them! I just bought a huge amount of orks from a friend for MUCH cheaper than I wouldve been able to get them otherwise.

Slugsun88: since you appear to be starting guard I have 3 warnings for you:

1: you started with what can be a very expensive army.

2: before you build anything(I hope I am not to late) make your intended army list

3: For making said army-list search about in the Tactics section for advice(clicking on my name and then going to "Topics started by" will send you to a nice breakdown of units and weapons those units should field); and a sub-bit of this advise is do not listen to Ailaros(he does not practice what he preaches by his own admission and he preaches nonsense).

With guard you can stretch the battleforce further by only putting 1 guardsman on each Heavy Weapon base; the rules give them 2 wounds, and 2 attacks but they are only considered 1 model anyways(so hurray for the 3 bonus models!).

A final 2 bits is to go to your local Games/hobby store(or game-club, or wherever people in your community play 40k) and talk to your would-be opponents; find out what your local meta-game is(that is how people tend to field their armies and what playstyle you are likely to go up against) Then field a list that will effectively counter that meta(I field Horde-guard, with no tanks, and plenty of anti-tank, and anti-horde; my local meta is mostly tanks, and anti-tank weapons so my opponents simply cannot put enough hurt to defeat my guard most of the time, as I blast their tanks out from under them and then turn a large number of shot onto the troops now vulnerable).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
