What's that noise?

Oh, the sound of crickets.

Nice Dragon though... or... whatever that is. A friend of mine might like that. Not for LOTR - God no! - but for D&D.

Ah look on the bright side - at least they're not wasting their money on moulding any plastic frames for LOTR this time.

That Dragon-thing's metal, right?

If that's metal then it's going to be a nightmare to build. That's if it's anything like the other one from what I've heard.

4000th post.. in a LotR thread.. Didn't see that coming at all

All of these release for WOTR are metal.

Tis a "Cave Drake"....

..apparently.

And still we get with the unfunny bigotry...

LotR is not your game, we get that. But it IS a viable use of GW's resources. The fact that in your god-forsaken neck of the woods no one plays the game doesn't make it unviable. Believe me, GW still sells quite a chunk of LotR, even if it is rather overpriced, along with the rest of their range.

Personally these dwarves and goblins are the first things that they have produced that I have been tempted by for a long time. I haven't played LotR for over 3 years now. Nice stuff. Their LotR dwarves are pretty much the best stunted folk models I see out there, after Hasslefree's. Never liked their WFB "eggs with legs" look, and much preferred the more realistically proportioned LotR range.

Don't like the Cave Drake though. What's going on with all the mad dreadlocks? Not my bag baby...

Cheers

Seriously though, the 'Cave Drake' (thanks reds8n) is a nice model. I like him. I just... see a better use for their sculptors.

Seriously, give WotR a bash.

Couple of boxes and a character and you can play a small game. Personally, I love it, and it very nearly toppled Fantasy from 'Fave Game' position! Way better than the Skirmish version.

And from my experience, it makes for a good set of Historical rules as well. Pushback from Archery, the freedom of movement (somewhere twixt Fantasy and 40k) and doesn't take long to resolve a game. Ideal if you ask me. Go on man, give it a shot with some proxies.

I have too many games already without starting another one.

The only LOTR model I'd ever get would be Boromir with the banner, from the extended Two Towers.

I might try it some time, but there are literally two people who play it at the local store

Although I might actually get the Cave Drake. Can use it to represent that transformation spell in WHFB. Might even get it just for display, which I've never done before.

I wanted to get the red dragon but heard how terrible it was to assemble.

in terms of minis with character, I love the boulder-thingie with the dwarf skin wrapped around it.

I have NO idea what is supposed to be represented, but.. the sculpt just ooZes niftiness.

Nice enough models. Too bad I don't collect Dwarves or Goblins.

I do like the Champion a lot though. He looks badass.

Wow. GW has finally made a dragon that looks good. No more giant nosed dragons or silly "s" shaped ones. I might have to pick that up as a mount for my chaos lord.

I was seeing it as a sphere, not a hemisphere like marching band drum.. but the guy with the bones should have clued me in.

The dragon looks good. I especially like the little baby dragon with it.

The drum is repulsive, but in a good way. I shudder in disgust when looking at it, but that it elicts that kind of response just shows how far GW has come since the old flesh banners.

Yeah, that's what's putting me off to an otherwise great sculpt.

A budding modeller could get the cave drake and cast it's head and neck a few times. Then, at last, Dark Elves can have a not so fugly Hydra.

As for the other models; the Perry twins are legends. They never fail to impress with their work on the LOTR range, and nor do the other sculptors involved. Recently, I have started to really appreciate what the range has to offer, especially in plastic kits, since all the infantry platoons in my Word Bearer Zealot army are made from converted Army of the Dead.

I think that makes it a dinosaur hehe.

I like the scales and paint on the model. The goblins look like arse to me but maybe it will is just the way they are painted.

Dragon looks really good. I'm curious what they might be planning when the Hobbit movie finally gets made. Smaug should look menacing!
