Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Mechanicon:

125-40k tourney ticket
10-Battlefleet Gothic Ticket
50-Price of Gas to get to tourney
92-One night hotel at discount rate (split with roommate)
90-Eat over 3 day weekend
30-Boozing it up over weekend

397 bucks give or take....

OR

for just over 400 bucks, make an order to Neal at the Warstore and get a complete, competitive Blood Angel army that I've been eyeballing since the codex came out. This will be essentially a brand new army to me (dont have any marine armies right now besides a Grey Knight list that isnt really competitive).

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

You'll definitely have something to show for your money if you get the Blood Angels.

If your dice decide to feth you over you'll be out a fat wad of cash and time. If you can't decide what you want to do more, go with the sure thing.

I voted Blood Angels, but really the answer depends on what you find to be more important at the moment. I for one would rather have another army, I have enough fun as it is without dropping 400 bucks for a weekend, but others might enjoy a weekend away... I suppose it also depends on where Mechanicon is and if you find that location worth going to.

I voted BA, because $125 is a rip-off for the entry.

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...

Go to the event! You can always get an army and if you are a working adult (which you seem to be) a $400 dollar vacation isn't too bad. Memories last for ever....but then, so does an army!

I'd rather go play with my models and try to win a big tournament than get more. Plus if you do well and you win some loot, that mitigates the cost of your trip quite a bit.

You go to the GT, youll have fun for a few days, you go home and thats it.

You buy an entire army, you get to spend a couple weeks assmbling, a couple months painting, and however long you have the army to play it.

You get alot more for having a new army over going to some GT.

Besides.. youll most likely get paired to play against some prick for one of your games that you had to pay to play.

Hahahahaha, jeebus, a little bitter there, huh cowboy?

I go to tournaments all the time and I have only had one unpleasant game in the past year.

Tournaments are my favorite part of the hobby. But everyone is different. By all accounts Shane is a good player, he placed with Daemonhunters at Adepticon. He stands good odds of walking away with some loot, I would wager.

But hey, to each their own.

I would say the odds of getting paired with a "prick" at a tournament are very low though. The VAST majority of people I meet at and play against at tournaments are cool, fun and civil.

Having a ton of models alone in your room isn't that cool. Making loads of friends and having a great weekend with your buddies while playing with your models is, IMO.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

That's all true Reecius.

125$ to play in the GT seems extremely steep though. I'm sure there are other tournaments going on in the area that don't cost an arm and a leg to get into.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

If I lived in D.C., and the Mechanicon was 4 hours away or so....I would go.

12 hours from Florida; hell no. I don't know if the Mechanicon GT is the right choice for you if you're weighing your options; I understand that Danny Internets is pulling one from the Nova Open playbook and hosting a GT (Salvation Army something?) that might be better suited to a competitive player. If your only two choices are Mechanicon or BA army, I'd ask what else you have in terms of models, how many points, etc to find out what you can do, what your trading potential is.....

There's more to it than A vs. B.

$125 is really expensive.

Wow, a normal GT is $55 to $60.

RTTs are normally only $10.

That must be one hell of a Con to have such a steep price.

There's less possibility of being let down with the army.

Guys, the costs are what they are because most GTs don't rent hotel ballroom space with wet bars, nor do they build a few dozen brand-new game tables with 2' sideboards and terrain. GW's old hotel GTs (which are our model from an amenities standpoint) were similarly priced, and that's not a coincidence given the rental costs of hotel space. Frankly, we could charge more and probably still not break even.

All that being said, we also try to give back through our goody bags and big prize support...probably $4-5K in prizes when all is said and done. We know our price is higher, but we feel a lot of the little (and big) things we do add value.

And note that if someone's budget is tight and price is the overriding factor, we also have the Friday Night Fight, a one-day FW-friendly tourney that comes in at a lower price point. Very shortly we'll announce even more 40K gaming that should appeal to those not interested in a big GT.

Back on topic, Deadshane, you know you and the other WC guys are welcome anytime. Hmm...you could always attend AND buy BA stuff at a discount, since The WarStore is our wargaming vendor.

I vote on the event.

Just recently I was able to take a small vacation for myself. I know I would have regretted not going if i had chosen to stay at home.

Besides you can always buy the army another time. While you cant go to this event again if you choose not to go.

The BA army seems more worth it. Then, next time ther's an event, perhaps you can take that new army.

@Gorgon

Not trying to gak on your picnic, but the SoCal GW crew has all new terrain, 8 foot tables, ballroom space and bars and they charge $55-$65.

Maybe you guys could talk to them and get some money saving tips? Or maybe the expenses there are just higher.

Anyway, you guys know what your doing, I'm sure. Good luck with it! I hope it is a big success for you guys.

The events are what you paint your armies for in the first place!

Spend on experiences, not "stuff".

Guarantee you will make friends, have experiences, and remember the experience long after you are over the catholic space vampires.

This really depends if you played at a GT in that area already.

If you played on the GT circuit in that area already and met everyone then a new army gives you hours of fun building and painting it and then playing it at the local shop which offers a better entertainment value for your money versus going to an expensive event that if you played in other events you met the people already.

However if you have not played in a GT in the north east before and have not me the crowd go to the event make new friends and meet people. It is really fun.

Well said Irongustavius.

@Avariel

Your argument is logical, but isn't it also worthwhile to go and see friends you met in previous GT's that you will only see again one a year at this GT? I know that is a big reason why I travel to events, to see friends I only get to see there.
