Okay so I'm a complete noob. Just started learning the game last Saturday. I don't know what to buy.

Anyways I want to build a 1500-2000 point list that uses lots of Trukks/Warbuggies (If this is viable). and then a few battlewagons looks like its a necessity? How would I do this? I want to use Sluggas in the Trukks as well.. not planning on having any Shootas.

What I have right now is:
16 Sluggaz (I know Ill need more of these), 8 (metal) nobz (including a painboy), 2 trukks, and 1 warbuggy.

I am thinking I'd use like 3-4 Warbuggies, 5-6 Trukks, 2-3 Battlewagons. I'm a bit confused on the whole KFF thing as well as what units, if any, go in the Battlewagon? If you do, maybe I'd put burnas in the wagons, seems like fun.

Would appreciate any help. I don't need an exact perfect list yet.. I just want to know what kinda direction to take, so I know what I can safely buy and will use moving forward right now. In college at the moment, so trying to save $$ where I can by not buying stuff I won't use.

Thank you. Posted this in Army Lists too since it fits.

For the record, I have read the Tactica for Ork and a few other FAQs. Most of what I've read doesn't quite hit what I think I want to do at this point with my Orks though.

KFF affects any unit/vehicle within 6" of it; giving infantry a 5+ cover save and vehicles a 4+ cover (same as being obscured).
Almost any infantry can go in a wagon, Nobz can take it as a dedicated transport.
BTW, this should prolly be in the tactics section.

Since wagons are larger and KFF is measure 6'' from the hull, put the mek with KFF in it. plus he is safer in there.

as for trukks and buggies, im guessing you want a speed freaks army that uses larger vehicles over warbikes.

as for troops/army..

Take one warboss (ghazgull or normal, either way) equip him however you like. give him a retinue of 10nobs (1 a painboy) give em cybork bodies and 'eavy armor if you like. equip them however you want.

give them a battlewagon so you have a hugely tough unit that can get into combat and krump stuff.

as for your second wagon. Use it as a heavy support choice and put your big-mek with KFF in it, give him a retinue of 18boyz and a nob (19 + 1).

now you have 4 troop choices left since your nob squad and 19 boyz are for your HQ's

either take 2 more battle wagon heavy support choices with 20 boyz per. and 2 trukks with 12 boyz. or 4 trukks with 12 boyz. up to you.

your fast attacks should consist of warbuggies (and possibly deffcopters if you like to fly over stuff and scout)
give them rokkits and w/e else you want to keep em cheap and spam a crapload of em (9 in total) and they will make great light vehicle hunters.

or you can skip out the nobs for a decked out burna squad and krump stuff up.

(better yet, take TWO bigmeks with TWO burna squads, with 2 heavy support battlewagons. giving you 6 troopslots for trukks!

I would suggest that before you start buying models, you read the Ork Codex and Rulebook. From there you can start to form an idea of what you would like in your army, as you'll get an idea of how things work. My next suggestion is to start with a smaller army (500 points) before you attempt to build a 1500+ point army. This will help you out, as it's easier to learn the game while playing a smaller army, there is a higher chance of being overwhelmed with a big army when you are first starting. An other reason to start with a smaller army is cost, you can start small to save money, and always add more to it in the future when you can afford to.

One thing that I would suggest for a purchase is the "Assault on Black Reach" starter set. It has a decent starter army for Ork players. It has slugga boyz, which you said you want to use, and Deff Kopta's which have the highest accuracy for shooting in the Ork Codex(a twin linked Rokkit launcha has a higher chance to hit and damage a tank then a killa kan, despite the Kans higher BS)

You can run various combinations with Trukks and Battlewagons. What I would do is proxy a list and then start buying stuff. But if you really want to start spending cash star with boys. at a bare minimum you will need 50 so of you go. And a Big Mek with a KFF. You will need one of those

Keep in mind there are tons of really "good" units, and bad units.

If I remember later I'll list the general consensus here.

Armies | Orks (2000 - Magna-Waaagh!) - | Blood Angels (1500 - Sylvania Company) - | Dark Eldar - (1500 - Kabal of the Golden Sorrow) - | Salamanders (1000 - Vulkan Ravens) - | Chaos (1500 - Wisdom and Wrath) -

I have a semi-consensus I think in the Dakka Taktika for Orks, but I'm just not sure on a combo of buggies/trukks/Battlewagons.

My main thing is with the trukks. I've heard people say they suck cause they can get owned by bolter fire, then I've heard others say they rock and to get a bunch of them.

if you're wanting a Mech build, you need to decide this before anything:

A: Speedfreaks (Lots of trukks and/or Bikes)
B: Battlewagon Beatdown (Nobz and Meganobz in Battlewagons)

Ha I read all that and didn't realize it was you who made it until after.

That said, I like the 6trukks/sluggaz.. You mentioned lootas and nobz in trukks as an upgrade.. However, would warbuggies be an acceptable addition? Seems like they would give you a little extra antitank.

You don't want Lootas in Trukks as they cannot mvoe and shoot. You only take Nobz in Trukks if you've got loads of other Trukks. Warbuggies with Trukks would mesh very very well.
