Saw first episode of Akashic Records magic bastard, or whatever it is called. What is with anime/manga and long and hard to remember names these days? -_-
Anyway, not sure where its going, but I sense shenanigans so I might continue watching.

Awesome and disappointingly flat at the same time.
Spoiler:
Yeah, that's the best way to describe it. They could have provided a loophole for it all to end with a "some causalities but nobody of relevance dies" type of ending but didn't (good that they didn't) and on the other side there is some half random justification for Gjallarhorn to change and give up some of its power (why would Rustal even do that?). But Ride plotting revenge for the assassination did show that they didn't all just magically get better after the show (survivor's guilt/responsibility and they are highly loyal child soldiers after all).
Yeah, a lot of the ending felt really hand-waved and way too convenient.
Spoiler:
Like the whole Tekkadan attempting to surrender thing. You'd think once inevitably the facts of Gjallarhorns use of banned weapons and the ridiculous number of casualties (some extremely high ranking) they took fighting what ultimately was an army of child soldiers that wanted to surrender (and how Gjallarhorn's finest were terrified of said child soldiers), that Rustal and Gjallarhorn would have...difficulty maintaining power. Likewise, you'd think if they had those banned weapons sitting up there for the battle, they'd have just levelled the base or used them earlier and repeatedly, not just once and then let the survivors get back up and continue walking through Rustal's ground forces. And yeah, agreed, Rustal just happening to turn out to be a totally ok guy that just makes everything democratic and free ostensibly was...well, lazy writing, especially not noticing the gak ton of Tekkadan people around Kudelia...like right in front of him...who is running security at these events?
I did like however that Mikazuki wasn't actually defeated by Julieta, she really doesn't do anything to him except hold his attention momentarily, Mikazuki still messily kills everyone else that gets near and Julieta saves none of them. Rather, Mikazuki bleeds out from the big space railgun attack. On his last bout with Julieta, his tail attack falters before it hits indicating something is wrong, and moments later Julieta lands what appears to be a critical blow but its revealed that Mikazuki has already passed out from blood loss and dies moments later, and she basically just marches up and declares victory, spearing the already dead Gundam. That left Mikazuki's character role relatively intact. That said, Julieta going on about "why are you fighting? it's pointless, you have no cause and no way of winning" was rather absurd, Gjallarhorn wasn't interested in taking their surrender, and she knew that, that whole exchange didn't make sense.
Watching Iok get crushed alive was orgasmic. That character was just fething annoying. Ride continuing "the fight" was a nice touch and nod to reality that not everything is perfect.

I think I actually have some answers for some of these.
Spoiler:
I think the banned weapon bit was "allowed" in the space battle because it was leaked/implied in the media that Tekkadan used these and Gjallarhorn were just retaliating in kind. In the final battle, Gjallarhorn had a media blackout on their side (it was arranged on the last day only when they wanted to attack) so nobody knew of the details (an those kinetic needles need a long time to reload and probably don't aim well if you drop them from the atmosphere onto Mars). If they had used these things earlier it would have been broadcasted by someone.
Them being afraid of Tekkadan is also understandable. Gjallarhorn/the society feels kinda feudal (and with a honour system) while the kids are mostly "Human Debris" and kinda cult-like following orders and lack self-worth (and are not even afraid to die). And they all (the pilots, at least) have Alaya-Vijnana System which makes them better/quicker fighters than all the honour-bound orthodox adults on Gjallarhorn's side who are not plugged into their mobile suits (besides the ones with "real Gundams" that have Alaya-Vijnana Systems connected to old users's brains or AIs based on these or something like that to support the pilot).
I think Gjallarhorn needing/wanting to eliminate Tekkadan was about Rustal needing to show that they are still in control — they are, after all, some sort of military-space-police — and then they gave up a chunk o that control in the epilogue :/
Tekkadan around Kudelia can be explained either by Rustal knowing that they got new identities and going along with it (killing children and explaining that is not that easy when you can't just classify them as mercenaries) or just plainly not knowing about them individually as they were lowly mercenaries.
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Yeah, all the while Mikazuki and Akihiro were providing cover for the test of Tekkadan to escape and holding Gjallarhorn's attention. Julieta's last blow was in the end used, like a lot of the rest of the last fight, just a publicity stunt for Gjallarhorn. Mikazuki felt like a rabid animal when he ended up in desperate situations and his last fight had a bit of that "blindly fighting until he can't anymore" spirit. I also love the creepy buzzing sound the tail blade made when it was the only weapon left he could use.
I think she was questioning his motivation and not really asking about some sort of battlefield analysis why he's fighting. She didn't get it from Mikazuki while McGillis explained his motives right before he died. I think she kinda lost her initial motivation/pure loyalty around the time when Rustal told her (in one of the episodes towards the end) that Gjallarhorn, like Tekkadan, can be ruthless/brutal for its cause and that the cause can be not so noble too (something like that).
Iok came off as somebody who got to his position due to daddy helping him and was just bumbling around being clueless while mimicking what he thought a great leader needs to be. I thought McGillis had already killed him when he provided the diversion earlier but this death was much more satisfying and I really liked the visual effect of the blackness/negative space just consuming everything.
Saw Your Name today, pretty good film. If it's playing in your area, I'd suggest you check it out.
Also, the Lost Children arc isn't really all that important to the overall story of Berserk, which is why I think they skipped it. And as for "decent adaptation". It is still technically this adaptation we're getting right now. It's just not the broadcast version of the series, but the blu-ray release.
The image on the left is from the Blu-ray release, while the right is from the broadcast.
As you can see, they've replaced CGI with hand drawn animation.
The reason why we're going to keep getting the CGI is because the anime would become too costly for them to produce. Japan already has a shortage of animators, and now you're asking for a team to copy Miura's awesome line work? Just not feasible for the production time frame. So the animation is poor and will continue to be poor, but the production company is doing everything else right. Now I just need them to release the blu-rays outside of Japan so I can get them for less than $400 USD D:

If only I could afford a double pay-wall. Strike got a couple shows this season I wanted to see (Grimoire was one of them.)
Has anyone started Clockwork Planet? I got the manga in my latest loot crate and liked it, so wondering how the show is before I decide to dive in.
Magical Teacher seems fun so far, but as a former educator I tend to have a soft spot for these kinds of shows.

Its a disappointment. I was not expecting Moe style, and I got Moe style. I don't like unexpected moe.
Also the main character is annoying.
Might as well post a small roundup
Magical Bastard teacher - Its ok. Will continue watching, but I expect to be disappointed
Armed girls (not Framed Armed Girls, I mean Busuo Shoujo Machiavellisme) - Looks like schlock, but the fun type of schlock. May continue, idk.
Clockwork planet - Don't like the animation style, don't like the characters. Life expectancy low.
Berserk - CLANG. That's the only second season I'm covering in the round up. Because memes are the DNA of the Soul.
Not- Re Zero = Interesting premise so far, but holy gak the author borrowed a bunch of ideas. The title looks like Re Zero and the girl's name is reminiscent of Drakengard (her name is Zero and she has white hair. Come on). The white tiger man reminds me a bit like Guts too; big guy, bad reputation, affected by a curse that resulted in people hunting him, etc.
Not that its a bad thing, mind you, just something I noticed. Will continue watching.
Renai Bokun - Not...what I was expecting. I was expecting harem crap. What I got was a parody of harem crap that takes the complete piss out of the common tropes. Kind of interested, actually.
Re-Creators - When Windows 10 crashes so hard it blurs the line between realities. That's what I got from that BSOD scene xD. Also the red head chick looks a bit like Asuka Soryu. So hot I guess.

I've heard Magical Teacher takes a few episodes to get rolling based on people who've read the manga, which works for people who follow the three episode rule, I guess.
My pro-moe stance has probably become rather obvious by now, but I completely understand why people are sick of it.
Spoiler:
Especially since Clockwork seems to be half moe romantic comedy, half gritty drama.

Sadly have to agree about Clockwork Planet. Not what I was lead to believe by the trailers and stills. Overall, of the dozen shows I have seen of the spring season, none look like they will be watch on release day, thus so far the Spring season is a big letdown from Winter. If I had to pick a couple of favorites so far I would say Alice & Zoroku and Eromanga Sensei.

Yeah, this season is a bit sparse on quality. Not really anything that's standing out, other than sequels.

Not counting sequels, I still say Zero looks really good so far. What Will You Do At The End Of The World?, or something to that effect also looks good after its first episode. Plus it wins longest title because that's not even the whole name of the show. Bastard Teacher is ok so far.
So sitting around the house bored and checking out some of the new animes I originally skipped when I had less time. Holy crap if you haven't checked out Re:Creators yet you really need to. Characters from animes and cartoons and video games getting pulled into the real world and finding out they're characters from our stories. Seems really good two episodes in so far.
So, I like Bleach. It's got its problems, but the overall story is neat, and the whole premise is pretty awesome. If it weren't for the terrible pacing, it'd probably be even over Naruto in popularity.
Bleach Abridged fixes some of that by, well, abridging it.
Recently saw Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate with a buddy, then we watched Hellsing Abridged together. It's hilarious. Amazing. Team 4star is genius.
Bleach Abridged isn't the same team, isn't quite the same, but it's also pretty awesome. Granted, I'm only in the Soul Society arc, which is strong on its own, but still. I have high hopes for the further arcs.

I got conned into watching the first Clockwork Planet episode at somone else's apartment. The art style and animation was awesome, the background story absurd but interesting in a good way, however the actual characters and interactions were...painfully cliché and infuriating to listen to.
Mostly it felt like a setup to an awkward high school hentai complete with physically perfect but utterly subservient sexbot fantasy.

Yeah. You can see the sub-par story and writing within the first five minutes. And I'm not sure I can agree with you on the animation or style- style seemed pretty typical 'Anime' to me, and the style...
It might just be the Animator in me (because that's what I study- animation), but any time I see DBZ-style "Flashes of action arcs around a stationary character" 'action' scenes, I just can't get past how cheap it is. Like, literally. Animating that sort of scene... I could probably get that banged out in an hour or two, and I'm a student.
Just... Compare the opening action sequence of Clockwork Planet to the opening action sequence of Kabaneri. Clockwork is so much more static, and even the enemies don't go down as well- perhaps its somewhat more realistic that the combat robots don't explode into shrapnel when the protagonists punch them, but it's also cheaper, easier to animate, and less entertaining.
I'm just... I'm saddened by it. That's a series that would actually have really, really benefited from a full-CGI production, because then they could have thrown in all sorts of cool, well, CLOCKWORK. Instead of skinny stick-arms and fantasy-guns.

I would agree the character animations were pretty standard fare and uninspiring, I was thinking more the background scenery and atmospherics that looked really cool.
But yeah, pretty disappointing otherwise. I'd love to see another season of Kabaneri, *that* was a pretty looking show.

I actually dropped Clockwork halfway in the second episode. The characters were just too aggravating for me to bear and it all looked so boring. You'd think a clockwork world would be a bit more industrial looking and gritty, but its so painfully clean and bland looking. Kabaneri looked better, and that show had problems.
Busuo Shojo Machiavellism is shlock that's rapidly becoming a weird assed harem, with disappointingly nary a sign of Machiavelli in sight, and its still more bearable to watch.
