Thanks to this thread found Kabneri and enjoying the animation style and the unique setting.

Spoiler:
I am a little put off by the "let the world burn because I have daddy issues" motive of Biba Amatori. Just seems to me to be a tad bit lazy story telling.

The other thing that stands out to me is Suzuki, especially the voice acting.

Interested what is on your watch list for the summer 2016 season? Myself I am Looking forward to checking out Mob Psycho 100.

Well trains and zombies is over, and it ended on a pretty meh note for me. Idk if they should have stretched it to more episodes, but I do think the last half of the season seemed pretty rushed. Also they could have developed the villain a little more, his motives seemed pretty thin for all the destruction and slaughter he causes. I'd probably give it a 6ish outa 10.

Agree. Binged the show after this thread, thought highly of the animation style and background, but the ending was just lazy to be honest. I only finished the season because of my completionist tendencies.

Binged Kuromukuro which apparently is a Netflix "Original" by virtue of them having global distribution/streaming rights. Right now a solid 6 out 10 as it falls just on the right side of will continue watching, but only if I have watched everything else. As soon as the summer season kicks into high gear, probably will forgot about the show. Mecha designs are definitely meh. Villains are kind of poorly designed and shallow at this point which is a shame because they had for a couple of episodes you starting to wonder if the visible enemy was the real enemy.

Finished High School Fleet recently and throughout the series kept thinking of Girls und Panzer which I definitely enjoyed more.

Just curious which anime from the new season you are enjoying the most or have been a pleasant or unpleasant surprise?

For me, Sweetness and Lightening and Alderamin on the Sky have been unexpected surprises as I didn't think I would enjoy them as much as I have.

Current on my watch list:

Sweetness and Lightening
Alderamin on the Sky
Mob Psycho 100
Taboo Tattoo
Qualidea Code
Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma

Anything you think I might have overlooked that should be on my watch list?

Current Summer season watch list update.

Started and go up to date on New Game! over the weekend. Another interesting slice of life even if the all female developer team is just a tad bit unrealistic and the fan service is obnoxious given the setting. Really looking forward to when the show gets to the publishing deadline or whatever other crisis event that the show is building to.

To date these are where shows rank in my watch list;

1. Gundam Unicorn
2. Alderamin on the Sky
3. Food Wars
4. Mob Psycho 100
5. New Game!
6. Sweetness & Lightning
7. Taboo Tattoo
8. Qualidea Code

Also catching up on Fate/Kaleid liner Prisma Illya.

Just wait......

My watch list in order of priority;

Alderaminn the Sky - really like the vibe and the plot. Looking forward to the forshadowed match up between the "lazy" and "unsleeping" geniuses in the next episode.
Mob Psycho 100 - yeah I know this is turning into a bit of a One Punch Man clone, but I can't help but love the quiet, underestimated, underdog story line
Re:Zero - Got lots of issues with this show, but can't help but watch the latest episode as soon as it goes up
Fate/Kaleid Liner PRISMA ILLYA - magical girl with a twist and of course just a sucker for the whole Fate/ universe
New Game - so much slice of life.....
Sweetness and Lightening - so much feels
Qualidea Code
Taboo Tattoo
Food Wars! - Ep. 24 lost me a bit and kind of a let down after the conclusion of the Autumn Elections
Berserk - just hard to get through the CGI style

On the list to watch but haven't gotten to
91 Days

Oh dear god yes please do not take my list as a recommendation for anyone under 16. Sorry for any confusion. Though some of the shows, e.g sweetness and lightening, would be appropriate.

As others have side, slice of life genre is full of shows that will probably be okay, such as New Game....but be careful as you probably know, fan service shows up in the darndest places and sometimes the slice of life shows venture into very adult subject matter (e.g. sex, alcohol, etc.)

Another good one that my kids when they were younger really liked was Mushi-shi

Your lie in April is a good recent one that I think would be good for tween/young teens.

Of course for any budding anime fan I think the Hayao Miyazaki films are a must watch, with Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Castle in the Sky being among my favorites.

As others of mentioned, crunchy roll is a great site to browse a variety of shows, filtering by genre and you can watch for free if you can put up with ads and on the simulcasts the broadcast delay.

Yep Re:Zero needs another season (or two) to go into all those plot threads it started which was great if you could be confident that there would be more seasons, but definitely left me feeling a bit unsatisfied with where the season left off.

In contrast, Mob Psycho 100 finished up well. The twist on how the final fight played out was good and how they tied things up for the season was done well while leaving just enough teasers much like One Punch Man (BTW second season confirmed http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-09-25/one-punch-man-tv-anime-gets-2nd-season-game-app/.106871) to set up additional seasons.

Qualidea Code's finale was okay, I guess. They tried throwing in their own slight twist, but I think this will end up a forgettable series as nothing about it was really innovative be it design, story, characters, etc.

Fate/kaleid Liner PRISMA/ILLYA - meh is all I can really say about this most recent season with the finale seemingly very business like. However the show is becoming stale despite really enjoying the setting.

Next up for me is to catch up on 91 Days.

Don't know about the rest of you, being past the halfway point of the current, getting pretty frustrated with the pacing on a lot of the shows this season. One show that comes to mind is Bloodivores. Also Izetta is either going to come to a very frantic (and possibly sloppy) end or this has definitely been written with a 24 episodes in mind given the plot developments and the new character introduced in the last episode. Still one of my favorite shows this season.

Just to run down my current watch list (not presented in any particular order);

Sound! Euphonium - enthusiasm for this show as waned. Did it peek to early?
Bloddivores - see comments above. Really hoping this show moves towards something
Bungo Stray Dogs - Other than the power creep that just seems to be inevitable with this show and of course the you knew it was going to happen plot development with the Port Mafia and the Agency, still enjoying this show and its creativity in how the various powers work and interact. Have done a really good job of keeping you interested and wanting more of each character.
Izetta: The Last Witch - probably my favorite of the season so far. Love the setting, the animation style, but really concerned about the pacing and how they are going to finish off the last 4 shows of the season
Magical Girl Raising Project - a bit of a guilty pleasure, Pon. Kind of like how they have taken typical magical girl and turned into this dark kill or be killed story
Brave Witches - meh....watch it when I don't have anything else to watch
Drifters - hmmmm overtones of Hellsing are everywhere and being familar with the manga, kind know where this is going so struggling with the show at the moment.
All Out! - somewhat meh, but kind of want to see where this goes
March comes in like a lion - another one of my favs of the season and easily the top slice of life show of the season. Love the animation style and the character designs.
ClassicaLoid - not sure why I am watching this. I keep expecting something to happen, but it doesn't.
Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans - Anyone else rooting for McGillis? Seriously, some of the best story writing in a Gundam show in quite sometime iMHO, but it seems to be missing something that I can't put my finger on yet......

Anything standing out for any of you this season or are you already looking forward to next season?

So the current season is winding down. Any finale's anyone is looking forward to or maybe dreading?

For me I am dreading a bit the end of Bungo Stray Dogs. Some of the story writing seem's to have gotten lazy the last couple of episodes and they seem to be mailing it in a bit.

I am not sure what plot device will be used to wrap up "March comes in like a Lion".

And what I was afraid would happen to Izetta did, and the plot has had to move along at light speed to bring it to final(?) conflict. Still love the animation and setting.

I have given up for now on the other shows I was watching and will binge them when I have nothing better to do.

Just binged Flip Flappers. Taken together like that it was better than I was expecting. Struggling to name my show of the season as my overall impression was it was a weak lineup, but if forced to pick I would say "March Comes In Like a Lion". I know "Yuri!!! On Ice" seems to be the critics' favorite and agree that it is wonderfully animated, but really not big on ice skating or Yaoi.

Agreed about it being an interesting take, but the show was not my cup of tea as I am an unabashed fan of high level heroics. I am not really interested in seeing the main protagonists struggle with stereotypical low level antagonists in a high fantasy setting. For me high fantasy is about telling fantastical tales of epic proportions.

Izetta was a disappointment, and Occultic nine was nauseating to watch. Its as if they chose some film student for the director, and he tried making the show "art" by suddenly jerking perspective around every 3 seconds and making the VAs speaking at a 100 words a second.

Izetta started at good and with the animation style I was hopeful, but as mentioned previously it rushed the ending, a bad ending at that. The post credit scene was further depressing.

Also agree with Occultic nine just being awful. I tried hard to watch it, but just couldn't.

Just watched Episode SP of Fate/Grand Order. Bit of a mess to be honest, but optimistic given the track record to date. Liked the new Caster and demi-servant.

Has anyone given Akiba's Trip a look yet? I'm wary but also bored since the new season isn't in full swing yet (he says as a stack of nine manga await him thanks to a B&N sale.)

Tried watching the first episode since as mentioned nothing better to do since new season hasn't spun up and I already sped through Fate/Grand Order. Bailed about halfway as animation was pedestrian and the story.....well lets just say they tried....

Totally forgot about Konosuba S2 starting. Definitely on the watch list. Also added Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid to my watch list. Really like Kobyashi's character. Not your typical female lead.

There are some others that based on the reviews I don't think I am going to bother with such as OneRoom, Chaos;Child, and Forest Fairy Five as dance card is getting full and I don't want to waste time on shows that seem like high risk - low reward.

Updated my watch list

Likely to watch the entire season
Fuuka - Idol who pines for no name primary school crush, Probable love triangle, slice of life, with some Yaoi mixed in.
Masmune-kun's Revenge - I'm a sucker of stories where the once a time loser get's the their comeuppance. Of course there is some kind of twist coming...needless to say I am hooked for the moment.
Saga of Tanya the Evil - Salryman reincarnated by a wrathful God who is now a 9 year old kick a** mage fighting in an alternate WWI on the German side. More please!
Interview With Monster Girls - Another slice of life with a big twist. Can't wait to see how the Succabua and the Snow Melt charcters get more involved in the plot
ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. - Conspiracy is a foot and no one is as they seem. To me it draws it's inspiration from the the history of the SS and SA and their respective struggle for influence and power in early Nazi Germany and a who watches the watchmen-esque plot.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid - just a fun show to watch. The studio has done a good job so far of combining fantasy, slice of life, and comedy with a a bit of a gender reversal with Miss Kobayashi as the not so sterotypical salary"man"
Konosuba 2 - No need to expand (or should I say explode) about this.

Committed to at least 3 episodes
Blue Exorcist S2 - I only put this here because there is a chance that I stop trying to keep up with it and just binge it at the end of the season
Gabriel DropOut - It's quirky but still not sure if it has the legs to stay on my watch list all season

Good chance likely to come off list after 2nd episode
Handshakers - yep it's gone. Animation style, charcter designs, and the constant self edification of the assistant professor and his constant reference to "handshaker" is just a mess and annoying.
elDLIVE - To me the alien designs and other sci-fi elements are definately pedestrian if not in fact downright lazy, other charcters are just trope, and the chacter design of the protagonist is poorly done as well.

Already off the watch list after one episode;
Akiba's Trip
Ai-Mai-Mi Surgical Friends
Schoolgirl Strikers
Spiritpact <----- ugh what a train wreck

I think Tanya is becoming my favorite anti-hero ever. I can't recall enjoying looking forward to each episode since One Punch Man.

I've laid off IBO since episode 38. I have found that I have to take that show in 4-6 episode batches.

So far my top 5 new shows of the winter season is;

1. Tanya the Evil
2. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
3. Masamune-kun's Revenge
4. Fuuka
5. ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. (I think this show is primed to shoot up my list, but right now it is pretty slow)

I know a lot of you like RWBY (as does my son, easily his favorite show), but I just can't seem to get into it. What am I missing?

What's your over under on that Christmas present leading to her eventual downfall? I'm betting the daughter end up being a pretty potent mage as well.

hmmmm....taking the under.......

Spoiler:
I think the charcter and the "gift" was a device to underscore how from Tanya's view, everything is a tool and that faith is not needed which is the core conflict i.e. We have the multi-episode charcterzation and exposition of a charcter who appears to be noble, intelligent, admired, grounded, and seemingly full of the type of faith that would be critical to defeating the manical and cyncial protaginist. Our sympathetic feelings are futher manipulated when he is given a prototype weapon by no less than his endearing and loyal daughter who seems to think that with such a weapon he is guaranteed to strike down whatever evil make seek to do him and their nation harm. That under any other circumstance would be assumed to be the device (of faith) by which evil (Tanya) would be defeated or the very least would play a significant role in redeming Tanya and proving to her once and for all the power of faith and God (Being X). Effectively we were being set up to believe he, and by extension the weapon, would play some significant role in Tanya's redemption. Instead she uses modest forces to take down what was supposedly a impregnable defence, eviscerates the counter attack, and seemingly without much effort (it really was a nuisance to her) takes down our symbolic hero with seemingly little effort and as an afterthought takes the supposedly special weapon with almost no fanfare. So ultimately the weapon doesn't lead to her downfall, if anything it like the "blessed" computation gem she just become one more of her tools.

Its a disappointment. I was not expecting Moe style, and I got Moe style. I don't like unexpected moe.
Also the main character is annoying.

Might as well post a small roundup

Magical Bastard teacher - Its ok. Will continue watching, but I expect to be disappointed

Armed girls - Looks like schlock, but the fun type of schlock. May continue, idk.

Clockwork planet - Don't like the animation style, don't like the characters. Life expectancy low.

Berserk - CLANG. That's the only second season I'm covering in the round up. Because memes are the DNA of the Soul.

Not- Re Zero = Interesting premise so far, but holy gak the author borrowed a bunch of ideas. The title looks like Re Zero and the girl's name is reminiscent of Drakengard (her name is Zero and she has white hair. Come on). The white tiger man reminds me a bit like Guts too; big guy, bad reputation, affected by a curse that resulted in people hunting him, etc.
Not that its a bad thing, mind you, just something I noticed. Will continue watching.

Renai Bokun - Not...what I was expecting. I was expecting harem crap. What I got was a parody of harem crap that takes the complete piss out of the common tropes. Kind of interested, actually.

Re-Creators - When Windows 10 crashes so hard it blurs the line between realities. That's what I got from that BSOD scene xD. Also the red head chick looks a bit like Asuka Soryu. So hot I guess.

Sadly have to agree about Clockwork Planet. Not what I was lead to believe by the trailers and stills. Overall, of the dozen shows I have seen of the spring season, none look like they will be watch on release day, thus so far the Spring season is a big letdown from Winter. If I had to pick a couple of favorites so far I would say Alice & Zoroku and Eromanga Sensei.
