I've been into 40k for a long time but never played a game in my life. I've painted and sold a number of armies on ebay but have never gotten much feedback or opinion. Most of my buyers wanted me to do commission work, but with work and new baby time is in short supply. I've been trying to do Whitescars for years and think I have cracked the code. Im also planning an Ork Big Mek army and CSM. I haven't decided between traitor Word Bearers or a pre heresy legion. Any input or criticism would be greatly appreciated.

I like them. White has usually been a harder color for me to paint.

If you look at the reds and golds it looks like a white undercoat so im guessing thinned skull white over that ?

Thanks for the compliments. I have tried several techniques on the white. The problem was a consistent color to make corrections. I finally used Skull White primer and 3 to 4 watered down coats of skull white. The weapons were primed black and painted separate. Tausept Ochre, ogre flesh wash, highlights of 50/50 tausept and golden yellow. 5 Bikes are WIP, they are a beating. Ill post pics when I get them done.

How about the black lines - is it pen?

I got the black lining by cheating. Its a micro pen, .005, got it at a craft store. Stole the idea from a guy on Bell of Lost Souls. Think it looks good but Im not entirely sold yet. Does anyone know what army list I should use for a pre heresy army? Im leaning towards Dark Angels Fallen. I have about 100 bits.

WIP bikes. Figure the riders should be done separate. Still have some details but the hard parts are done.

Great looking White Scars except for one minor detail. White Scars would probably never use a thunderfire cannon. Way to slow for their style of combat. Other than that everything looks great, and thanks for the micro pen tip, I'm starting my own White Scars army soon so anything to will help me is great

So I have finished the other 3 bikes. Now I am working on the riders. Think Ill paint them on the sprue this time. I tried that technique with Howling Griffons. Works pretty well for getting the light colors in the recesses but takes a lot longer. Ill post pics when I have something worth looking at.

So Ive completed an Apothocary, Company Champion, a guy who will have either a plasma or melts gun, and 2 other guys. Not sure if all these guys will be in the command squad or not, still toying with the idea of a standard. Im holding off on squad and Chapter markings for all the army until I decide exactly how to structure it. I used 3 of the OOP Whitescars riders from way back. Im trying to get my hands on a commander. These guys are still very WIP, need some more details. Anyway, here they are.

Great job in getting that nice, crisp white. Most people seem to have moved towards the gritty, dark, and weathered end of the painting spectrum, so it's nice to get some bright, blacklined models in the mix.

For those that have been asking, I'd highly recommend picking up at least one micron pen. I've got a few Sakura Pigmas ranging in size from 005 up to 08, but the 01 gets the heaviest use. The ink is black, with none of that metallic reddish tinge that superfine tip Sharpies have, plus it has a little bit of flow - not enough to run away from the pen tip, but enough that a few runs over a groove in SM power armor will render the whole thing jet black, whether the pen tip actually reaches every single little crevice or not. It also stays wet for a little while, like paint, which allows you to tactically smudge the checks on your Goffs (microns are a GODSEND for doing checks) for quick and easy weathering or wipe away little mistakes.

Next up are some Sternguard. Yeah I know Im not building the fluffiest of army's, but what the hell. I've never played a game in my life so any army I create will be hopelessly outmatched and wiped out in about 20 minutes anyway.

Alright, Sternguard started. Im using the Black Templar bolters just to make them stand out a bit. My attempts at big time conversions usually end in enormous, embarrassing failure.

So the closer I got to completing the above Sternguard, the less I liked them. I made some new ones from scratch. 2 combi bolter-meltas from the command sprue, a terminator heavy flamer I modifed, and 3 bolters which are off the vehicle sprue. I was thinking the army will be designed for a quick strike followed by heavy infantry. I have no idea how it will work game wise, but it will let me paint up whatever I want. And I was thinking of using the Dark Angel list for the Ravenwing entries.

Can somebody please explain why my beloved Seminoles keep choking in ACC games. On a more 40K note, got a SM battleforce and magnets today. Already have a Predator upgrade sprue. Gonna build these guys a little armor support. Im sticking to the SM codex, can field more bikes and a more powerfull force, I think. The magnets will let me switch the tank from a Predator to Rhino and switch the weapon options.
