Hi all, this thread started off as a Chaos only Dread build blog!!!! But as it's gone on, it seems it's developed into a more, build as many different types of dreads that I can!!! big or small

Hope you enjoy!!!

Hi all, this started of as a WIP of my first dreadnought conversion, but after finishing it I could not stop, and decided to try and make a dread for each chaos army. So this is now my blog for all that is dread

I thought I would share my first ever Chaos Dreadnought conversion, and hope people can give me some pointers.

I started, by drilling out some demon heads, and inserting copper tube for gun barrels and exhausts. Cut out middle part of a doom siren so it fitted over the lascannon, now need to GS around it to finish it off.

Addicted to drilling out demon heads, so I did it again for the flamer also cut of the igniter from the original flamer, and stuck it to the demon head

Decided to change the feet back to original. I used a hair dryer on the chaos symbol and bent it around the leg plate.

Cut up a chaos terminator heavy bolter and stuck it on the hand. This is one thing im stuck with, not sure what to do with the hand, any suggestions would be appreciated. Chaos hatch spikes stuck to arm with copper tube.

More hair dryer action to bend chaos symbol over right arm. Added chainsaw, hatch spikes and chains.

I've stuck hatch spikes on rear, but not sure i want to keep them there.

I'm stuck on what to do for the front of my dread, please help need suggestions.

I like the modifications you've made. I dont know if I like the halos on the arms and back or not. They kinda work. I think they definately add a sense of chaos...but I think chains would work better on a dread.

Thanks Element, I've already removed the rear spikes, and fitting the chaos chains with the skulls on. Does anyone know where you can buy chain links from, preferably chunky ones that look like the chaos vehicle ones.

oooo, thats a good questions. My recommendation would be to start at a local hobby store or craft store. I know places like 'Michael's' will have things like that in the jewelery/bead section. I cant guarantee that you will find the exact scale or shape, but its a good place to start looking.

Nice conversion!

Good points: the use of the doom siren is purely awesome and I will steal it for one of my next dread. The exhaust stacks, lascanons and icon-bending job are great too!

Things I'm not sure: the hatch spikes really seem out of place on your dread, and the head you've used for the flamer looks a little disproportionate (note, the realisation is awesome though, and you really have a great sense of detail.)

I'd really like to follow your work on this one.

I personally dont care for the halo thing on the back. Its a bit wonky to me, almost like you were finished but felt it missing something. Other then that a very nicely done conversion.

Thanks Hyenajoe, I got the idea of bending the icons from looking at your Khorne Dread, which I think looks really cool!

I've already pulled the back spikes off, and I stole your idea of chains off the back of the engine but im using the chains with skulls on. Yeah im looking hard at the arm spikes and they have not turned out as they did in my head, so need to rethink.

more photos to come

Thanks KingCracker

Halo on back has gone

The bit i'm really stuck on is, what to do for the front plate.

You should get like 5 sets of hatch spikes and make him the galaxies most deadly hula hoop!

But honestly this looks great! I started with the metal chaos dread for mine and used washers from a hardware store to space the waste and arm joints to make it look like it was larger, I never liked the stunted look of Marine dreadnoughts myself...

That front plate has my brain running wild! you could use a blood-letter model chained in the seat and have it struggling to get free like its trying to leap out! or you could used some green stuff and just make a chaos stilled icon on the original lid. You could even use a plane piece of plastic and paint lit like its a glowing hunk of basalt or obsidian.... that's the best part about chaos, the options are seemingly endless.

Good stuff so far!

I have removed the hula hoop of death, and replaced it with skulls on chains

First I drilled holes for the top links to slot in. I did not want to just stick the skulls on

Ready for skulls to be hung from

Stuck a couple of links on the skulls and its done

What does everyone think?

Looks goon, the only problem is after a couple of games all those spikes are going to break off and you'll have 2 big half rings on the side of you dread.

Yea dropping and breaking are a part of the game
My wife had a cat that knocked my warboss I built off a table and broke the holy gak out of it. I was rather pissed. You learn ways to build your conversions that make them last longer though. For example, on your spike rings. If you were to drill through the entire circular part, and use a small finishing nail as the main pin, the head of the nail will hold on the outside of the ring, so its actually glued to the dred in several places.

Its not totally break proff, as nothing is, but it will make it last alot longer

I notice you said "My wife had a cat" you were that pissed

I think it was fate, as I was having second thoughts about them anyway so now I need to go back to the old drawing board.

Thanks Barren.

I buy them from wargamers world here in U.K. You should be able to find a bitz seller in th U.S. They are from the chaos vehicle spur, and so are all the other extra parts i've stuck on

Thats looking really good. I agree that the chain looks much better on the abck compared to the spiky ring thing. Will it be painted soon?

Thanks Flinty.

I've still got some filling in to do, and those spikes on the side are coming off.

I need some ideas of what to put in the hole that they leave behind.

Painting will be once I'm more confident, I need more pratice

Got around to doing some more work on my chaos dread.

Added a Sentinel chain fist.

And removed the side hatch spikes from both sides, still thinking of what to put in place of them.

Also I loved the look of this shield so stuck it on

I think it looks great and I'm happy to see the halos gone. They were more distracting from the great work you've done.

imo the chain fist looks rather odd. Besides that it looks relay cool. I would have to agree, the shield is rather awesome and seems to fit right in place.

Thanks alot HungryTaz. Although the chainsaw I have changed slightly, there was something not quit right, but still i'm staring at it thinking it may have to go.

Thanks sinthes, I think I will be using that shield on a few more dreads

the chain fist has changed a bit, because I 'm just not happy with it, still thinking about it.

Yey I found the perfect parts to cover the holes left by the hatch spikes, and added the chaos symbol to the left arm.

All thats left is the face plate, refit chains to right arm, and a bit more green stuff to be done here and there. Oh and still thinking about chainsaw

Right, more dread work.

I thought I would try using my doom siren idea from the lascannon on the chainfist

Now I just got to get that faceplate done.

The new chainfist design is a marked improvement. A more dynamic positioning will really help 'lift' the model though.

Try having the dread taking a step forward, with the chainfist arm by its side, for example.
