not sure, thinking about cutting and shaping the base of the platform out of styrofoam to fit the sloped back and the adding some wooden planks or cut popsicle sticks, I'd appreciated any suggestions or tips.

Wow man, very impressive! It's great to see something graduate from being a generic toy to being a giant beast of khorne.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I just got a boner. But seriously, this is some very impressive work!

Have to admit though, when I first entered the thread I thought it was fully painted and I was like "EWWW!" ...and then I noticed it was greenstuff.

Very Nice!

One tip I could give for the howda. Use basswood strips (more to scale) and use a wire brush paint stripper on a drill to give the wood a grained texture you can paint. I have done this with a few things and it really looks like sculpted on wood grain.

Good luck!

Wow, really impressive I can see what a tricky time you would have had finding a model like this to base it on.

Thanks for the thumbs up and the tips, I've been out of modeling and converting for a few years and just got back into Warhammer Fantasy. This is my first big project I've attempted, hopefully this thing will look better when its painted(Also thinking about getting some cheap chain style necklaces to use as Howdah straps, any ideas where to get some?).If anyone wants to get one of these Mammoths to use in WFB, here is the website. $16.95 and $8.00 shipping, a lot cheaper than FW..stay tuned more pics to come..

Thanks again

Thats awesome....great work on the greenstuff. Definately beats the alternative of dropping a ton of money for a FW model. I wish I could green stuff myself a mars pattern titan! :(

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

Yeah, this is awesome.

I might be way too early for what Im going to say but ill say it anyway. Its hard to judge the scale without other minis around. However, to really make it shine you need to give the impression of just how big this guy is without other mini's near it. I take it you're going to put guys on it as 'riders'? Even some body parts on chains would help though.

I can imagine chaos dudes hanging onto chains around the legs so they can get a few hits into their enemy's haha.

Keep up the updates.

I need to put some other minis around it to show scale, but if you look closely at my second picture I do have an unpainted Champion of Khorne standing next to the project when I first started it , Its hard to see but should give some idea of scale, I'm still debating has to how I'm gonna design the Howdah although some marauders hanging from chains sounds like an idea to consider..I think the model is 1/13th scale and is a bit bigger than the FW Mammoth

Rarely am I impressed by toy conversions, but damn, this looks good. I really look forward to seeing it finished.

As for chain, I think you can find it in hobby/craft stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Highlord with a Blackstone Fortress

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I would make the howdah out of matchstick, this will offset the chance of falling into the usual trap of balsa or foamcard model builders: huge slab sides with add on detail. Thats only ok if the howdah is sheet metal. then again thereis no rrason it cannot be. If you bevel the ends of as many matchsticsks as possible all the better.

For longer timbers use trailing sticks for pot plants from a florist. They are irregular enough to act as beams.

You could sandwich a layer of plasticard between two layers of match and sticksfor added strength.

Pad the bottom of the howdah with greenstuff and press it against the mammoth. Howdahs would be padded anyway for firmness and the comfort of a (real) elephant. For your modelling project the pads would mould to the mammoth so when the howdah is removed and the green stuff left to set you should have a firm fit each time. Alternately coat points of contact on the mammoth with vaseline and leave the pads to set on the mammoth.

The pdss ought to be strapped to the mammoth, which means you will need to model chains or straps under the beast.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

The title had so much win in it that I had to give this a look.

Very nice, I would say that I hope you don't make it looked diseased, those green stuff patches on his legs and stomach seem more nurgle than khorne.

Don't worry, I'm not a fan of Nurgle, those patches will look like wounds and battle scars when I get done with it.

updated pics..starting on my Howdah, cardboard and GW tray material, will be using greenstuff to add detail and chopped up popsicle sticks to represent the wood planking, also plan on adding painted mesh for chain mail armor and rope netting material to hang marauders and trophies from.

very impressive mammoth you have there I find the howdath on its back less impressive, I was expecting something slightly more like the lord of the rings version with a thick saddle and poles/tree trunks tied onto it but overall very cool
