Hey guys,

i have read all the debates on these forums and others to if a chaplain on a bike should have a black bike or a bike that represents the chapter he is fighting for. My army is Crimson Fist so I have decided to paint the bike chapter colours and the chaplain black. Please have a look at this one minute video that shows you all angles and tell me what you think!! Is it cool the way it is or should I repaint the bike black?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

I'm not able to see the video right now, but I don't see a problem of having your bike in chapter colors. Maybe if you have a book bit or something else, you could attach it to the bike to denote it as the chaplain's bike.

with his black armor he stands out enough at it is... with the bike in the colors of the chapter he kind of blends in again with the rest of the crew. i see it like a try to show a kindred spirit among fellow fighters for a common cause. wouldn´t change it. and by the way it´s a very crisp looking fine detailed model and i like your highlights and the skin and the eyes are "eyecaptering"^^

JMHO, I think the bike in a crimson color scheme with the blue as a secondary color would make him stand out more.

Hey Cat, nice paint job. Like the colors on the bike as it makes a nice counter to the black armored marine. Having the two fenders different colors is a bit out-of-place, but that's just my opinion. I'd gladly field that figure the way it is though... fine job.

I liked the red front fender, for a regular CF's bike. I'm on the fence about him having a chap colors on his bike, however, leaning strongly to "no." It doesn't look bad by any means but it does significantly subtract from his identity as a Chaplain. The blue/black/red scheme is a bit confusing to the eye. Paradoxically, I think this idea would work even more poorly for armies where the contrast would be sharper (e.g., White Scars, Imperial Fists). The overall effect, IMO, is that the Chaplain lost his bike and picked up that of one his fallen brothers.

As a mod, let me also reccommend that you retitle this thread to be more reflective of its content. It will get more attention that way.

Let me first say that I like the mini. It is very well painted.

When I think of a chaplain hopping on a bike to ride to battle, I think of him hopping on his own personal bike, that would be black, and adorned with all sorts of "chaplainesque" flair.

But at the end of the day, it boils down to what you envision a chaplain for the crimson fists riding around on. Hell you could even go so far to say that his bike (like the rest of his chapter), is in a state of repair, and that he is riding a loaner

I thought leave it like that at first, but now I'm thinking that it should be the colours of the chaplaincy. It's probably not his personal bike but the chapter chaplaincy probably has it's own bikes which they draw from.
Perhaps repaint the blue bits black, then repaint the red fender at the front blue and add a chapter symbol on the front somewhere. Leave the red on the wheel itself.

I don't like the red fender. I think if you did all blue with a red racing stripe, it would be better. Another option if you really want to repaint it, would be to use a darker blue. That way he still looks chaplinly but still fits in with the chapter.
BTW, that is a well painted model.

I would just repaint the front wheel housing to match the rest of the bike. It looks a little out of place. Other than that, it looks great.

Took a look, and I think it looks good the way you have it. Well done!

For me, as long as it is well painted and you can justify it with fluff, you don't need to change anything.

I saw the other video and you have a painted crimson fists icon on the fuel tank, nice work. Have you thought about painting the second bike you mentioned as a crimson fists chaplain and do a more black bike and then sell it as painted or whichever you prefer less. There's obviously a market for the bike as it is.

Hey, I have never sold any of my painted minis, to be honest I didn't think I was good enough except when I see most "pro painted" figs, mine kinda puts them to shame. That's not to imply I am better than the pro's, but more to say that "pro painted" is WAY over used.

Not sure what I am going to do with the second bike>>>

That looks really good. A black bike would take away the effect of the Chaplin.

The SM's eyes look strange though. He seems 'surprised'. Needs eyelids.

Yes, your thread title needs changing too.

I think it looks solid, though I think the red cowling should have been done in the same blue.

My original opinion was to do the majority of the bike black, and then do a plate on the front or something crimson fists, like with a chaplains shoulder pad, showing the chapters insignia.
But then I watched your video, and you did an outstanding job of it! So I personally think for this model, keep it the same, but in future try the black with a bit of crimson fist colours somewhere

I like the thought of the squad having their bikes and the chaplain just requisitioning one from stores... space marines have armour and weapons of their own, most don't have anything else as it would just get in the way. personal trophies for those chapters who allow them are an exception, so fluff wise I would assume that the bike should be standard colors...

The furthest I would go would be to paint one pannel or the fuel tank black, the chaplain may have had two or three days to prepare for the mission and used his downtime to do some personal touches?
