Right, after reading a LOT of "Blood Of Kittens" and "Yes The Truth Hurts"

I have one simple question "Who the FETH is Stelek?..And why does he incur such venom?"

Maybe it's being in the UK or just generally the fact I'm not a tournament gamer, but it seems everyone either worships the ground he walks on or wants to crucify him!

I think it's the arrogance.

Even when you clearly know your stuff, arrogance is never excusable. I think his main sin, far from being rude, is that at some point he lost his way a little bit, and veered into the territory of 'I was right before so I am right now'.

Nothing personal against the guy, I just don't really like his posting style.

I saw a post which read along the lines of "I only lose because you cheated, or I let you win" which made me think "Wow..Part of me want's to see how good he ACTUALLY is to make statements like that"

"...where Astarters of lesser chapters wear the Emperor's Aquila. We do not wear His symbol. We are His symbol."

Which is why he has been dubbed an 'internet celebrity' by some folks. He got banned from Dakka awhile back.

He did?...Huh, I guess being in the UK really separates me from all the Drama surrounding the US tournament scene?

*shrug* to some people, Warhammer is a hobby, focusing mainly on the modelling or painting aspect. Some people focus on the gaming aspect of the hobby, just a thing to do amongst friends and occasionally go the FLGS for some games. Others are, as the well known phrase goes, WAAC gamers, who take the game very competitively. Whatever floats your boat, eh? Then there are some people who are just cockheads. It's beyond winning for them. It's something to prove, like the pissheads who start fights in pubs every weekend. Usually been badly emasculated in the past/are currently being emasculated, and so they find a way to re-assert their masculinity, whether its going out and fighting in the pubs late at night, being utterly ruthless in business (*cough* Kerry Packer *cough*), or those twerps who sit there playing WoW/whatever MMORPG of your choice, in one of the top guilds of the servers, some of the best gear in the game, has no life but goes on and on about how good his is in WoW... emasculated men are good finding something they can prove they are useful at (in their own eyes).

*shrug* your gonna run into plenty of them during the average human lifespan so it is a bit of a case of if you don't like him, get over it, since he's not gonna change any time soon. But he's an arrogant opinionated ass with a soapbox to stand on- and like to admit it or not, everyone loves and arrogant opinionated ass. insecure sheep like people don't make for good conversation now, do they ?

Ego, not Drama.

If you're highly competent at your Hobby, more power to you. But there's only two ways to make money out of it. Join GW, or open an Indy. Thus your game performance doesn't mean a huge amount, as long as your opponents enjoyed playing you.

Oh I'm certainly not WAAC, hell the armies I take to my FLGS tournies have no real chance of winning, but I have great fun and often throw my opp. such a curveball I get a win!

Aslong as i try and be as sportsmanlike as possible, I shouldn't really worry about his "type" then?

Pretty much. The only thing you have to worry about it them being that much of a tool you might have to hold yourself back from a good ol' rapid-fire-headbutt to the nose. If a competitive player/army (not always WAAC!) beats you, and gloats about it... well, , I'm a grown man, If i went down and beat up some kids at the local highschool, and was gloating about it, I'm pretty sure 90% of people will think I'm a bit of a cockhead. There's a massive difference between playing a highly competitive army, and one that's thrown together with a "I like X Y and Z units, So I'm gonna take them!" mentality.

Hahaha!! I have encountered some gloaters before, but I just look at it like "It's down to the dice, I did the best I could!"

His attitude just made me laugh though on his website, I read "I could take on any player, anywhere, at any point value with any army and win"

The dude must have some pretty major win's at GT's behind his name to make those kinda boasts!

There was a similar post on here last week after he scored very highly in a few tournaments.

Stelek was a prolific poster here who got banned a few years back. He then started his forum. He could best be described as a VERY competitive player. However, it was his particular posting style that most offended people.

He had a very binary, black-and white approach to advice. In the world of Stelek, if you don't agree with him, you're not only wrong, you're also an idiot. Any army which isn't top tier is not just 'less competitive', it absolutely sucks and you're an idiot if you want to play it.

He has attracted a lot of support as he often will give good, competitive advice. However, his online persona is so incredibly arrogant that he becomes a chore to have a conversation with on a forum.

Apparently, in real life, he's lovely. But his 'I know everything and if you're not as competitive as me then you're an idiot' online persona riles a lot of people. Including me.

Wow...So he is only into top tier armies?

Seeing as he can't defend himself, it seems a little sad to even discuss past the first post.

That makes two of us. But then again there are people who are famous for being rich, stupid and on drugs, so it doesn't really suprise me that there are warhammer players out there are "celebrities". Personally I'd prefer to be an obscure nice guy to being a well known douche.

Ditto on the first part...but everything has its "celebrities". So far in life my 2 major hobbies have been cars and gaming, though over the years Ive grown out of the car thing. I still like them, but have no desire to go to shows or street race anymore.

Anyhow, its the same with everything. Usually starts with someone who has a good bit of money and can buy the best of everything. That starts the attitude, they have better stuff than everyone else, so by default they are better, at least in their mind. So of course they start winning, since they have the best stuff. That makes the attitude worse. Then the followers and c0ck riders start...they spend all their time fawning over said dude, so that they can hang around with him, and try to feel cool by association. That usually sends dudes attitude to epic levels. You then end up with 2 groups, followers and haters.

Eventually dude has such a big head he thinks hes untouchable, and gets into it with website admins, tourney/show officials, etc. he thinks because he is so well known that he should get preferential treatment. Ive found that officials are a mixed bag with this, some go along with dude, some dont. The truly epic part happens when website admins get into it with him...they dont take to that kind well. After an epic blow-up or two a ban usually happens.

Best way to deal is to just laugh at these people...since they tend to base their entire life and self worth around the particular hobby...its pretty sad.

In short, people tend to have strong reactions to authority. Some resent and rebel, or try to gain it themselves. A lot of people fall in line. More than you'd think, by the way, as famously shown in some of Psychologies most famous experiments:

Defend himself from what, exactly? I'm not sure anything has been said here that requires defense. And I'm one to pretty much one of the first to criticize the moderation here.

Defend? Is he being attacked? And if so, where?

Just like the other thread, people were having a fairly calm discussion yet you were all over it like a rash.

Go away Bunker. If the thread's going to get closed it'll simply be because the Mods will get tired of seeing your endless reports and just close it to make you shut up.

We DO have a policy against speaking against those who can't defend themselves here. If you have a problem with Stelek, bring it up on his blog.

And Bunker, we don't all troll Dakka all day. If you're so profoundly unhappy with Dakka, why do you still post here?

(Yes, I realize the unfairness of locking a thread after asking that, but honestly, it was rhetorical).
