After almost two weeks, I've completed my first Valkyrie. I used some Forgeworld weather powders and decals to spiff it up a bit and the wings are removable for storage.

I painted the interior and the cockpit as well.

Very nice job. I like all of the additional details and weathering you put into the model.

That is fantastic. The whole piece rocks. Question though; did you drybrush the hard angles (f.e. that last pic, the housing for the lascannon) to get that "highlighted and fade" look or is it done another way? Also, how do the powders hold up? I've considered getting some for various vehicles, as mine always look so clean and new, or I botch paint weathering attempts and it looks bad.

I did drybrush the edges... though the lascannon and a few minor touch ups were blended. I wanted to cut down as much time as possible.

As far as the weathering powders, they work very well, but I did discover that a lot of them are 'blown off' when it comes time to seal the model, so you want to be a little heavier than what you expect. I used two colors of rust and its hard to tell from my subpar photography, but the rust is two-toned in spots.

You also can't see the two colors of paint that give the teeth some depth.

good work. have you got a squad of stormies or something to ride in it?!

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Yeah, nice work. It actually looks like a model, rather than simply a miniature in a war game.

Looks great, with the weathering powders you should always varnish first, as you have discovered they will blow off and disappear under the varnish. I find the best way to weather vehicles with powders is varnish first, then get some thinners, add a very small amount to some powder. this makes a paste, spread on model in crevices and where you want to dust to go. wait for it to dry overnight usually then take a clean, dry semi stiff brush and start brushing it off, apply more pressure where you want the least of the powder to be and less pressure where you want the build up of powder.

hope this helps

Good advice on the powders! I shall try that!

For now, I have a squad of ten Cadian Vets to ride in it.... but I'm painting a squad of Elysians to be my veterans.

Very nice overall, i like that you painted the inside. I have to say that i dislike the teeth though, it seems kinda bland and clean compared to the rest of it. Good job though.

I'll be honest, I'm kinda torn on them as well, but I wanted a painted nose to use that rule. However, the flash drowns out the three shades of red and the bone and white painting of the teeth to give them some depth and the picture does look very flat.

Calibanite Lion wrote:you getting grav chutes for them aswell?

Aye! I have some pics in my gallery and have one painted. I just need to do shotguns at some point.
