Did anyone else pick up on the Monty Python reference in the BT codex? The holy orbs of antioch... AKA the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.
Figured this out today. Anyway, what other hidden references exist hidden in codexes, besides the obvious rambo/marbo gak?

It's a in-joke to Margret Thatcher, the "Iron Lady", who was PM when Ghazzie was made. Only brits would get it. Orks themselves are, in fact, one massive British in-joke. As much as this may shock you Yankies, but there is a subset of youths in England who actually speak like that. It's not made up! Not sure but the new Duke character from the DE has been called David Bowie in Space.

That one seems questionable to me. The original meaning of the word before it was used in a BDSM context was simply a woman who held a position of power (i.e. lord, ruler, ect). It definitely toes the line and since the epic model bears a striking resemblance to the Gieger Jockey I can understand coming to the conclusion that the modern meaning was intended but ultimately it is more ambiguous than say Ghazgkull or Guardsman Marbo.

It's not quite a "pop culture" reference, but Lion El'Jonson is clearly a reference to Lionel Johnson, an alcoholic English poet who wrote "The Dark Angel".

Vulkan is a reference to Vulcan, the Roman God of Volcanos!
Jaghatai Khan is obviously a reference to Genghis Khan.
Rowboat Girlyman is a reference to Mary Sue.
The missing 2nd and 11th Legions are references to the 2nd and 11th Roman Legions, who has all trace of their existence wiped from the records as punishment for losing their standards iirc.

they've done a similar thing with Corax and Edgar Allen Poe. The last thing corax said before he left was "nevermore". Automatically Appended Next Post: Corax is Latin for raven/crow.
