This was my third game, Tau vs Marines. I was the Marine player, bringing 855 points (all I have) of Marines to the table, combat squadding and all that. There were four objectives in this game (Seize Ground, Spearhead Deployment): A downed pilot, a generic one in the woods, a ruined landraider and an important bit of "supplies" (or rather those are our markers). It was tough as I don't have any heavy support yet, but I managed to survive. By the end of turn 6 I had a 2 man tac squad on the forest marker, a 5 man bolter squad on the downed pilot, a dreadnaught and my last remaining Terminator on the landraider. My opponent had a full squad on the supply marker, as well as a squad and a battlesuit on the landraider. We determined that he held one, contested one and I held 2. But, we still had forces on that landraider at the end - does the game simply end at that spot or did I miss something?

Another way would be to simply slide the landraider sideways like a big slowed hovercraft full of eels. -pismakron

You counted the points right; your troops only count as scoring. So you controlled 2, you both contested 1 (both within 3" of it), and he controlled 1. So you won, 2 to 1.

However, T6 normally you'd roll to see if you keep going on a 4+. T5 you roll to 6, 3+. You can always choose to play til turn whatever and just end there, like you guys did. Normally if an outcome can't be swung past T5 I normally call it.

This. But if the game ended then, then yes you would've won.
