In my thread about my theorized guard unit, I made mention of a Stormtrooper variant being native to the planet, much the same way Kasirkin are native to Cadia (the whole lot is a bit inspired retroactively by Cadia + Krieg). I wanted an Elite foot troop for my army (especially since apparently Krieg don't get Vets, and I'm basing my list around the Krieg one!), something that is potent and has access to toys not normally given out to the rank and file. This is an experiment for me, and I openly welcome criticism that is constructive, and I freely admit up front this unit probably sucks. But that's ok, we can make it better!

Anyways, the base is the Death Korps Grenadier Squad. Vanilla Guard Stormies are overpriced, so these guys are likely as well.

For 90 points you get 4 guys at WS4 BS4 S3 T3 W1 A1 Ld7 Sv 4+, and a leader at +1 attack and leadership. They have Caracpace, Hotshot lasguns (laspistol leader), CCW's, frags and kraks. Their rules are Iron Dicipline, Die Hards and Hardened Fighters.

To this, I add Scouts, Infiltrate and Move Through Cover. Now for 90 points, they are more fragile scouts with better shots and assault ability, though they cost 15 points more for the basic squad. They are priced at 18/model for extra guys (as par the PDF), and have all the toys shown, except heavy flamers (I would be tempted to say no heavy weapons at all given what they're supposed to be).

In addition, they gain access to shotguns (because why not?), and can drop their hotshot lasgun for a hotshot laspistol for free. They can also choose to drop their hotshot lasgun for a bolter for +2 (?) per model. Their squadleader retains the option to get his boltgun for free. Or maybe they should all get free boltguns? Toss in the usual transport options for the guard as a cursory measure and we're done.

What think the grandness above?

They have a little too many special rules for the cost they are.... and then they'l be added to a guard army and get... more?

Yeah, they're pretty bad. I'll put it this way: If I was forced to take Imperial Stormtroopers or your suggestion, I'd take them.

That being said, if you reduced the price to say 14 points per, I'd probably use them.

Really, 14 points? How do you figure?

I'd have to agree, but I'd say cut down on them having perhaps Move Through Cover and have them chose either Scout or Infiltrate before the battle.

And it's 14 points, because they really aren't all that fantastic so you'd have to lower them.

So even though they shoot as well as a marine, and pretty much ignore terrain/set up advance/get a free move, they're too much per model?

Probably a good idea I get rid of their "move through cover" and "Infiltrate" completely. I'm rethinking their role as not so much the Stormtrooper replacement (in the literal sense) mentioned in their fluff, but as a crack assault team that is graduated from the ranks of the general infantry. They're better shots, and more motivated so they get entrusted with heavier firepower. So at the above minus infiltrate and move through cover, what about 13 points per model? Also, would it be bad if they got squad-based storm bolters? I'm thinking this squad should completely avoid heavy weapons; this exists to support the armored punch as elite assault troops.

I completely forgot to mention - these are supposed to be Troops choices. DKoK don't get vets so I invented these guys. They're not looking to popular though, so they'll probably get canned.
