Finally got around to wrapping up the Carrion Throne.

Best character has got to be Gorgias.

Navradaran wasn't bad either.

Nice one, it is a really enjoyable book.

I really liked the little old lady in the library and of course Crowl was great as well.

What did you think of the main character? (Spinoza I think?)

Spinoza was there I suppose? I mean, good on her for being such a badass that she's been given a crozius by a chaplain, but I much more liked the two Storm Trooper characters over her. Silent and stoic Revus who just doesn't give. A. feth. about anything and motormouth Hegain, whose rambling was quite amusing.

Also wrapped up Kingsblade yesterday a.k.a. Imperial Knights are not as invincible as they seem, but they are still pretty damned badass.

Decided to pre-order the upcoming Inquisitor Covenant novel, something I wouldn't do normally, but with my FLGS being so flaky when it comes to ordering books these days, I'd rather not wait another effing month for it to finally show up already..!

Yea I didn't find Spinoza terribly interesting either, which was strange because almost every other character was really good!
I'm torn over whether I want a Carrion Throne series, maybe it is perfectly formed as it is and it is better not to ruin it?

Sounds cool, I had overlooked the 'Horusian Wars' series because I just assumed they were heresy era books. My mistake!

As is the book does not need a direct sequel, some people argue that yes,

Spoiler:
we deserve to know those names, but the way it was handled (Navradaran impaling the cargo without letting it finish speaking) made it pretty clear digging any deeper is undesirable, as it is implied that at least one of the names belongs to a High Lord.

Personally, I think it's fine as is, we've already gotten a good glimpse at how much of a depressing crapsack world Terra truly is, though I did love the description of Eternity Gate, which fit the classic illustration to a T.

I do want to see more inquisition themed books though.

Yes I was thinking more along the lines of a new mystery rather than stretching out the old one. I agree that there isn't really any scope to continue the current story.

Great picture of the eternity gate! I'm still a bit annoyed at Guy Haley for that diabolical story he wrote featuring it in The Beast series haha.

I still need to read the fifth book, because of what I've heard I've been putting it off for ages now.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I think I'd be happiest if they turned "Vaults of Terra" into an irregular series that are all set on Terra but aren't necessarily direct sequels to each other. You could have a novel about an Inquisitor and an Administratum Redactor Team battling mad Datacultists for the chance to delete some monstrously dangerous old bit of info from an archive, or do "Dredd 40K" and drive deeper into the Terran Arbites, that kind of thing. Really dig down into what a monstrous place the Throneworld really is.

Of course that's unlikely now, any Terra-related novels will likely be 300 page paeans to Rowboat and how awesome and special and wise and special and awesome he is as Regent.

Oh, so just yet another person who seems to have forgotten that this is a discussion forum for discussing things, and not the inside of their own head.

If you(plural, nonspecific) can't deal with people making comments that are perfectly within the rules of the forum that you personally disagree with, I would suggest that forums aren't for you and that there are plenty of lovely happy-clappy facebook groups where the admins will instaban anyone who doesn't post like they're an NPC in We Happy Few. Or you(plural, nonspecific) could just skip straight to using the ignore feature without this tiresome tendency to let people know exactly why they don't meet your own rarified standard of positivity.

There does, however, come a point where enough should be enough?

At least, there is in the 'Black Library News/Rumours Thread'.

There are plenty of other places and spaces on this Forum to discuss just about anything.

It doesn't have to be in every thread - that, in fact, goes against Rule #2.

So, in short, everyone should feel free to start whatever threads they want, if they don't already exist, to discuss whatever they want, but please do endeavor to keep threads on topic.

And polite.

I certainly hope it is #3 AND #5.

#1 I don't care about.

#2 is dumb.

#4 is actually dumber.

Of course, we all know that Alphairus is dead and that Omegon is now Alpharius, so I guess Alpharius isn't actually dead, but, yeah.

OK.

Gathering the Informations.

New covers for November releases!

First up is a tale that was alluded to in the new Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, and now the full story will be told – it’s ‘The Devastation of Baal’. This new Space Marine Conquests novel (the first of its kind) by Guy Haley sees the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan fall upon the Blood Angels’ home world in the aftermath of the Shield of Baal campaign. As the Chapters of Sanguinius’ bloodline rally round to defend their primarch’s world, help arrives from some unexpected sources – but will it be enough to stop Baal from falling?

Robbie MacNiven will be continuing the month in hive fleet style, as Joghaten Khan of the White Scars embarks upon ‘The Last Hunt’. This novel sees his 4th Company defend a White Scars recruiting world from the alien horror of the Tyranids – unless an unlikely ally kills them all first. And by ‘all’, we mean the White Scars AND their enemies…

Also in the 41st Millennium, George Mann returns to the Raven Guard with a new audio drama. ‘The Geld’ draws on the Raven Guard lore from the Horus Heresy, starring Shadow-Captain Qeld, who has the same innate stealth abilities as the Shadowmasters of old. Sent on a dangerous mission with allies he can’t quite trust, is Qeld in over his head?

Lastly, an Age of Sigmar book:

Finally, we have an adventure in the Mortal Realms, as C L Werner brings the Kharadron Overlords into Black Library fiction with ‘Overlords of the Iron Dragon’. This novel follows the fortunes of Captain Brokrin Ullissonn as he searches for a source of aether-gold from which to make his fortune. But when he finds it, he may also find more than he and his crew have bargained for.

I'm excited for the Raven Guard one, wish it wasn't an audio drama though...

That Werner is doing a Sigmar book might actually tempt me to read my first Sigmar book!

I finished The Horusian Wars: Resurrection over the weekend, really enjoyed it even if it is clearly setting up the rest of the series and follows a fairly standard plot layout complete with the usual twists and turns that you would expect with the Inquisition, it very clearly wants to ape Ravenor and Eisenhorn. Still I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

I also read Lorgar, interesting book with some nice insights into the very beginning of Lorgar as it starts from only days after he was found. If you don't hate Kor already you will by the end of this book as he really isn't a good Dad to Lorgar. One of the better Primarch series.

CL Werner is at his best when he's writing fantasy IMHO. Just look Brunner or the Witch Hunter novels, or the amazing (though some people will whine about how it treated Chaos Dwarves) Wulfrik novel.

Blood for the Blood God is similar. Werner doesn't constrain himself. However, The Red Duke was his latest, greatest fantasy novel for me.

In early 2018, we’ll be celebrating all things Black Library in a variety of exciting ways – and we want your help.

As part of the celebrations, we’re going to reprint two classic Black Library novels – one from the 41st Millennium and one from the World That Was – to give a new generation of readers the chance to hold must-read titles in their hands. And you are going to choose which two! Our editors have narrowed the field down to six choices for each category – and you can vote now for your favourites.

Do you want to travel Kislev with the ‘Riders of the Dead’, or return to the castle of the Great Enchanter in ‘Drachenfels’? Perhaps you’d like to see the ‘Lord of the Night’ fight again, or return to the days of a wilder Warhammer 40,000 with ‘Space Marine’. Well, the choice is in your hands – and here are the options.

Emperor's Gift feels like the odd one out, it's nowhere near as old as the other 40k titles. It still gets my vote though.

Fantasy.. torn between Zavant and Drachenfels.

Yeah, in the end I went with Drachenfels, I have the four books and the omnibus.

As much as I like Zavant, it's just Sherlock Holmes but with the names changed.

Emperors Gift is far too recent. Everyone who wants it has it in what must be fairly good shape.

Zavant all the way.
