Indeed, it started to become a trainwreck halfway through the series, just about when that villain guy showed up, and they started making it more like AoT with the giant monster zombies.

Hinako Note is officially my "cute girls doing cute things" anime of the season. I was a bit worried because I didn't have one yet (I was about to start a rewatch of Is the Order a Rabbit again) but now I'm on board. Scarecrows, ahoy!

Not Re Zero is growing on me. Its actually a pretty charming little show.
Reminds me a bit of Slayers, but with better characters.

Ooh, that sounds fun then.

Speaking of Slayers- anybody use the Funimation video player? It changed recently, and I was in the middle of watching Slayers on their site, but now the vids don't work. The player loads (they're not behind a paywall as far as I can tell) but nothing plays.

Not really getting a Slayers vibe off of Grimoire at all myself. It's completely lacking a loud sassy Lina character. Zero is much too chill to be her, and Mercenary is way too smart to be a Gourry.

Ok, so the spring season for me has been meh however that is not to say that I am not following anything. My watchlist has coalasced around the following;

Alice & Zoroku
The Royal Tutor
Akashic Records of Bastard magical Instructor
Boruto
Sakura Quest
Eromanga Sensei
Clockwork Planet
WorldEnd or aka that show with the longest title evar!
Natusme Yujin-cho season 6
The Silver Guardian
Kenka Bancho Otome
Granblue Fantasy
Love Tyrant

Can't say I have a paticular favorite of the group as they all feel like something to watch to pass the time, but if I was going to pick my "top 3" at the moment I would have to say Eromanga Sensei, Sakura Quest, and WorldEnd with The Royal Tutor and Alice & Zoroku not too far behind.

Clockwork Planet is the most likely to fall of that list. Boruto may also fall off the regular watch list as well to binge on later.

As for the two most anticipated sequals, Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia... AoT just doesn't interest me and after watching the first season of My Hero Academia (which I really enjoyed), I am now stuck on the manga and so my interest in the anime has waned.

Does anyone have some suggestion for an Anime like Evangelion? I loved the subject matter of this anime, all of the religious undertones on top of giant mecha... I dont think I could find another anime that fits me that well. the whiney kids were a turnoff couldve used more giant mecha action, but that's to be expected in most animes. Is there anything similar?

Eureka 7. The original, not the new one.

It's like if you mixed Code Geass with Ghost in the Shell, told from the perspective of Shinji-with-balls.

Although I would say it has less religious undertones (it's more like "unknown") but has eco movement / counterculture / surfer culture themes. I still think ray=out was a nod to Ray Gun.

Gurren Lagann comes to mind. Its like a tribute to every mecha anime every, NGE included.
Anyway, watching WorldEnd, aka that one anime with the absurdly long title.
Its a bit charming, actually. However, I do find it odd how Ctholly looks like Nagisa from AssClass.
Seriously, its...uncanny.

Nah, Gurren Lagann is too over-the-top. I think Supreme Overlord is looking more for a pacing and theme feel, rather than the 'giant mech akshun' thing.

Check out RahXephon. Pretty similar in feel to Eva.

Also Gurren Lagaan. Sure it's a lot more epic in feel than Eva, but it's quite incredible. Definitely one of my most very favorite animes.

So, saw some of that Sin show that's out this season.
Its another one of those shows that should really drop the pretext and go full hentai. Like, seriously, the uncensored version is risque and the censored version is pointless because of the jarring censorship inserts.
Interesting concept overall I guess, obviously the ecchi crap show of the season, just alt-tab to porn when someone comes into your room. It'll be about the same but easier to explain.
I know that joke pops up a lot concerning anime, but its actually applicable in this case.
The OP and ED is alright though, so there's that. Probably the best thing of the show.

And that's why I like it
I found the characters in Slayers to be obnoxious, especially once you factor in Lina's power levels. That's some DBZ gak going on right there.

Slayers was a 15th level DnD group playing a 4th level campaign.

I mean, seriously, a Gestalt Sorcerer/Fighter, a Paladin with a very high level Smite, and a half Golem with, what, 5/- DR +5 Natural Armour Wizard? And those are just the first couple people in the party.

Catching up on Re Creators.
Its a good show. I wonder if the series creator read Number of the Beast by Heinlein.
I think my favorite character might be that boss guy with the sword. He's basically Kamina with stand powers. Which is pretty rad.

Some questions though -

What impact does Fanfic have on their worlds?
On a scale of 1-10, how fethed would they be if Great Cthulhu were to show up?
What would happen if the creations were to discover the massive amounts of R34 of them, which, as they are popular fictional characters within this setting, there would no doubt be?

I'll check out Raxephon and Gurren Lagen. I loved the dark feel of Evangelion (along with giant fighting mechs). When I watched GL it seemed light, bright, not much of a deep or dark story, I could be wrong as I only watched 2 episodes. I've never seen Raxephon but know it has something to do with singing robots? Was also told about 5 star stories.... anything on that?

Spoiler:
1. I think in their theory fan fiction has no impact, only the real creator can do something and even then the real creators' seem to not be able to change things when the characters shifts into the real world. My guess is the change needs to be published and gain some traction in the real world before it can impact anything and that this will probably be explored in later episodes. Them exploring if a creator can change things is a setup for later.
2. Their theory is that them coming into the real world and bending the laws of physics seems to affect our world/universe negatively and the guests are trying to minimise their impact. Anything with great powers using them would instantly destabilise our universe (if their theory about how the guests' powers affect our universe are correct).
3. hilarity ensues… probably? I think that's something that the show will explore (how they react to fan fiction or just media interactions in general, not necessarily R34)

Writing a Fanfic would probably cause an additional new world to be born. Hell, maybe the reason the guy who wrote to book trying to make changes to her didn't work was because she's based on the anime, given she's apparently using its timeline instead of the books which is further along.

Also with Gurren Lagaan, it does get much deeper and darker as they go along. Very good.

Yeah, it gets much much darker pretty early on in the series. You have to watch more than 2 episodes, but it'll make you question existence.

I'd suggest Utena if you were interested in the dealing with being a teenager/angsty part of Evangelion, but there's no giant robots, just lesbians dueling with swords.

Dat Attack on Titan tho...

I've never seen such a dog turd of an episode plot delivered so compellingly, or with such amazing visual splendor, as to make me care 0% about how fundamentally dumb it was.

That was beautifully awesome.

Spoiler:
Mikasa's attack sequence...holy balls, visually brutal and shocking, narratively powerful, gorgeously animated, and totally badass, I could watch that for days...

Oh Berserk.. not one, but two really, really badass quotes:

"For that sword is forged by the malice of thousands of dying souls."

"I am the Lord of Rotting Roots. Ruler of withered trees and polluted mud. In accordance with my contract with the little one, the trolls who crawl on my body will become a breeding ground for maggots. ROT."

It was jank, but it was still a badass episode.
Because Berserk is fething awesome.

Boku No Hero was pretty good this week. It was nice seeing the other powers in action. The support lady's fight was funny.
Spoiler:
it was just a 10 minute long sales pitch. She didn't even win. After show off her wares she just left the arena,
leaving a very pissed off Lida the victor

Watching Beezlebub. Its ok, but I really don't like how OP Aoi is.
Like, lady, if you can intimidate a god, and wreck buildings with a wooden sword, that's apparently made of magic thanks to all of the pretty pink light, then you don't have to worry about fighting demons. I swear, she's much stronger than Oga, and he's hopped up on demon juice, because mah secret long winded techniques. It's...aggravating.
Also Furuichi being a pathetic punching bag gets old. Apparently he becomes a badass in the manga, but that doesn't appear to be showing anytime soon, so I guess I have to watch the same joke every episode.

They put out a Blame! today, by Netflix. It's CGI, but damned good looking. Never read the manga before, but I may now after having seen about thirty minutes of the movie. So damned good on the visuals and atmosphere.

I love Skull Knight so much. He's like a grimdark Mr.Rodgers/fairy godmother turned up to 11, it's hilarious. All he does is show up and look intensely intimidating while he drops profound wisdom to help people help themselves, and occasionally does something insanely badass to rescue people when they done goofed.

The scene where he showed up in the old Witch's house was fething hilarious.

Spoiler:

Little old prim and proper woman in her flower garden...and a dude who looks like the mother of all BBEG's shows up randomly, and she's just like "oh hi friend", and he goes on to make dire pronouncements of doom and her reaction is basically "oh bless your heart".

Schierke's little smirk as she casts her rot spell on the trolls was also great, even that little mousy girl has a grimdark side.

Whenever Skull Knight shows up, you know something awesome is going to happen.

But creating a dimension cutting sword out of behelits he took from slain Apostles? He had to slay a lot of the fethers to make it that powerful.

It was also cool that the old witch referred to him as "your majesty", which is another step closer to confirming that he is Gaiseric, creator of the first empire.

Yeah, the whole "I made a sword that cuts through spacetime from the bits and pieces of my defeated enemies, lets see if it works" bit was great.

Slan also referred to him as King as well, so not much doubt he's Gaiseric at this point.
