Basically after revising an older idea I came out with this:

The Primarch has discovered inter galactic travel with the help of the Eldar. *He landed on an Eldar world.* He dubbed the ship "Destinys Ascension" After starting up and travelling he lands on a tormented world. Only to find the remainder of the good in Khornes soul. I was thinking that this was where his soul was tortured until he became a Chaos God. He is guided by Khorne out of the planet and back to humanity. In the years it has taken for him to get back the Heresy has already happened and him and his legions records are exterminated. From here the legion takes Khornes symbol and then vows to do something.(not quite sure yet) Maybe to redeem Khorne and the other Chaos gods. When the Imperium finds out that the Legion is still alive and wearing the mark of Khorne they declare them Heretics and begin to hunt them down.

Thats all I have so far. Basically I need more ideas criticism and anything else that can help.

you have fallen into a trap that most new fluff writers do.

you want your chapter to be a lost legion: many have done it so it really isn't original.


Redeem Khorn?

sorry to say it's a little absurd.

i would reccomend that you just have him have a relavation from Khorn and give himself over to Chaos.

See thing is I dont really want them to be Chaos but my 3000 point army all have the mark of Khorne, I like the armour with horns but not the fluff, still like Khorne though so I want to try and encorperate those things in somehow.

you can use Red Thirst and Death Company to represent Khorn's influence and yet still be loyalists.

Dont like loyalist either I like traitor just not chaos. Maybe they were betrayed by chaos but still believe in Khorne and the gods?

Khorne is a chaos god, if they revere him then he has power over them. Using chaos symbols gets you noticed by chaos, either drop the association with Khorne or make these guys chaos marines - there is no other option. Khorne doesn't have any good in him, he was created in the warp from the countless battles and murders committed in the physical universe. He has only ever existed as a god of bloodshed and violence.

You might have more luck with the eldar god Khaine, but you'd have to come up with something to explain how humans could be accepted into a cult of Khaine.

I guess the whole lost chapter thing has been done so many times that were like BAH enough, but if you want to be separate from loyalists and chaos, which codex do you run?

Chaos codex because it's easy to use and I use Chaos models, it's just I dont like their fluff

cool, so i guess zerkers and termies in landraiders? you could also use blits and not screw up ur fluff cause they work for the highest bidder

I hate when people use Lost Legions there are many interesting ways to write about a Chaos Space Marine warband.
They can be pirates for example(Ahooy,ya scurvy dogs),corrupted BA or some other corrupted Space Marines.

mhm, liuke my skull screamer legion was one of the elite guard of horus during the heresy, their leader (Tyranic Marta) fought sanguinus b4 Horus got to him, (lost obviously) but was (like huron) repaired until 90% of him is mechanical, this is why i frequently use blits, because they have similar intrests. srsly thats only a small chunk of it, (in reduced form as well). its that easy to make fluff

errr...wut? I'm sorry but this is a bit derp.

"redeem khorne" the "remainder of good in khornes soul" WTF??? this isn't some anime where every villain is just a misunderstood outcast who was molested as a kid. khorne is neither evil nor good, he just is. he is a manifestation of the collective anger and blood lust of the universe. true some of his aspects may encompass nobler qualities such as martial pride and honor but ultimately he is the god of violence.

I don't mean to be so harsh but this just annoys me. Don't mess with named characters/gods/whatever in the 40k universe! if you want to create your own minor chaos god who is the god of misanthropic angst be my guest but don't up and decide that, contrary to years of fluff, khorne is really just some misunderstood gentle giant who only wanted hug.

Also the lost legions thing has been done to death, granted its what they're there for, but your fluff doesn't fit since the lost legions were excommunicated pre heresy not post heresy.

EDIT: the mark of khorne turns its possessor into a psychotic killing machine, thats what the in game rules are meant to represent! seriously! WTF??? Chaos is evil, period. if you want to play the good guys go buy some tau.

One nitpick,Tau are far from good,they are evil as the Imperium.

Ok so I'll start again, I want something like the Soul Drinkers chapter. I need someway to fit it into the fluff though because I have 3000 points of khorne marines and need someway of keeping everything I have and not starting all over again.

We already know how Khorne was created. Read the Liber Chaotica. It's got everything you need to know about Chaos.

if you dont want to change much i would sugest making them rather than a forgotten chapter, rather make them a suppressed chapter, ie they have been hidden by the imperium because of there heretical views but are not openly worshipping the cg's in a way that makes them stronger, ie its a bunch of marines that arnt helping th cg's so why bother, but now you have come out of the shadows and is massacring them

Remember, this is a science fiction world and while finding the good in Khorne's soul is strange by fluff standards, there is nothing wrong with someone throwing out ideas and trying to make his army unique. I think that kind of thinking should be encouraged and makes for interesting armies!

To the OP, instead of 'good' perhaps you can fall back on the older Khorne Fluff where it was less "KILL MAIM BURN KILL KILL BLOOD" and more about martial pride and perfection. Perhaps your clan is de facto Chaos/Khorne...but not in the slaughter thousands for giggles manner. More of a Predators "Natural Law, Might Makes Right" following....

This would also open up Obliters, Havocs or whatever else you want to throw into your army. They just excel at what they specialize.

If you want to write fluff for a khornate chapter trying to redeem themselves then by all means. Go for it. Just don't expect people to take it seriously if it fly's straight in the face of the setting background.

Coming up with new ideas should be encouraged, but shooting down ideas that totally go against the established fluff should be encouraged too. If you want to go against some element of the fluff then at least have some creative skill to back your story up.

If you're just wanting an interesting army then create one and don't worry about the fluff, only the rules matter afterall. Just don't try and discuss your unfluffy army on a fluff board. Easy no?

I'm all for creativity, but what's the point of having an established universe if you can make up anything with no regard to previously established canon? The issue here is that the army origin completely rewrites Khorne's story in a way that makes no sense.

How would you like it if my army's history retconned your entire army's origin?

I like AgeOfEgos' suggestion: Instead of turning to Khorne to better bask in the joy of bloodlust, perhaps they turned traitor and began their worship of Khorne in hopes of acquiring greater martial power; to become the greatest warriors the galaxy has known.

I like this. As Khorne isn't ALL about blood. He is about martial ability and there seems to be a fair few warrior cults dedicated to that aspect of him.

I like this idea. seems the most plausible way to worship khorne without going to extremes

Not really, he's about martial ability only insofar as it leads to bloodshed and violence. He is a god of anger and blood. The best trained warriors in the galaxy mean nothing to him if they don't constantly kill and maim, read the fluff. There's nothing to suggest Khorne cares about skill as a merit on its own.

I have to wonder though, why can't a group who follow some chaos god become "corrupted" with the teachings of the God Emperor and start to change over with all the problems that would cause?
