Things you do waiting for your turn to come by, or a game to start, or while watching a friend.

I'm the kind of person, who will sit down and text while waiting for my opponent to finish his turn. I might seem uninterested in playing, but really I'm watching every move. Hopefully this places a negative effect on them and causes them to play with less skill. Of course really I am interested, it's just I rather text the girl I'm talking to, rather than care what the nerd on the other side is rolling.

That or I'll talk to my friends about uncomfortable subjects aloud. I usually try to lay down some sort of psychological warfare. Unless my opponent is one of my friends, then we know we can't troll each other. (Well only 2 )

I also enjoy stacking dice... this is a hobby of mine. I did this watching my friend play a match, of course using the small blast template, and the corner with no action.

I'm the one constantly calling my opponent back to the table during their turn - gorram kids can't focus on anything these days.

I'm quite happy that our club room has no mobile reception. Frustrates these teen idjits with their blackpodthingys no end.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Nothing to do with the paint (renovations and construction of the wing we are in is post cessation of lead paint sales).

Probably more to do with the metal foil tinted windows and the large amount of grounded reo used in the building construction, coupled with a generally crappy cell signal strength in the town (several parts have ZERO coverage for ANY network, GSM, 3G or whatever ).

Well it still sounds great. I just don't understand the fanatical attachment these kids today have to their "devices".
It must be nice to have a signal free gaming environment.

Back on topic, my opponents turn is where I go grab another slice of pizza or open a beer.

Go out of the room for a smoke... "just roll, I'll take the saves as soon as I'm back in 2 minutes"... do so, and none of my termies die, smile and say "my turn?" xDDD

i find random objects and put them on the table and claim they are my trophies from the last turn, like last time i played i my buddy i killed 2 squads of SM with my DP so i picked up his military grade rifle (m-4) and placed it on the table during his turn and claimed it was a small price to pay for claiming victory or if i lose id put a hammer on the table and watch his most pronounced figure intently, and claim im coming for you, other then that i build pyramids out of everything.

So what did a squad of Fire Dragons say to the ork stompa?

While waiting for friends to show up: read, walk, paint, nap.

While waiting for someone to return to the table: declare victory.

I tend to play with the "regular crowd" at my GW, and we're all friends, so I generally just banter with my opponent and observers. You know, talk to other people. There's a fair amount you can do while it's your opponents turn, any way. Roll saves, argue about LoS/Cover saves and rules. Plus it's generally polite to stay at the table.

Yeah. If someone acted like that to me, I'd just pack up during their "smoke break."

I generally stand on my opponents' side and guess what he's gonna do in each phase.
I'm...70-80% correct... mainly because I just bum-rushed his lines... not too hard to guess what happens .

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

If I'm playing someone thats very slow, I go outside to smoke. However this may backfire if they smoke also (he ends up following me outside, D'oh )

Believe it or not... but I did another one where I stacked a dice in the middle on it's corner end too. I didn't get to picture it because my friend bumped the table once I completed it.

Also having cell phone signals is a must, you don't know how bad it is, when you find out a family member is hurt and or dead, and you were trying to be contacted.

Yeah, I text, but I don't let it hinder my gaming, I'll put the phone down and roll saves or whatever, then I'll go back to texting.

You realize this statement is self-contradictory - "I'm really interested, but not as interested as I am in doing something else." To me it shows both a lack of respect and interest in an opponent, something I see regularly in less mature players.

If you're there to play, you're there to play. Nipping out for a drink, food, or a phone call is all well and good, but at least show some interest in what I've taken time out of my day to spend doing, neh? I may not hawk over my opponent's every move between rounds, but I'm not going to wander off to watch someone else's game or carry a conversation between rounds with a nookie monster. However, I'm also not going to begrudge you hopping out to visit said nookie monster either.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I do watch them, it's just the way I appear.
I am there to play, but doesn't mean I can't multi-task, and respect is something you earn, until I know who the person is, they're just another guy rolling dice.

Also, I've seen many players do things that you'd consider downright disrespectful, and trust me, me just texting my friend, isn't all that bad during their movement phase, when they're trying their best to get the most out of it. (People take long over here.)

But our main guy who runs the campaigns and such, has told me and my group of friends, since his years of playing since he was about 20, he's never met more mature players. Of course my group being the youngest- we started playing this year; have far more respect for the people who deserve it.

I've played against him, and not once did I text, except during his bathroom break. So really it comes down to, if you're just a random guy, or someone whom I'm not familiar with, you don't got my respect as far as attention goes. I'll respect you as a human being.

But it's good to know, you'd be willing to let the Orks take the Waaagh! to the bedroom.

I usually watch them move, or if I know they take a long time to move I might watch a game on an ajoning table, but I do not walk away. I have played someone who would wander off every turn, and I would have to go looking for them when I was done, and I find this very annoying. Luckly, in my FLGS, I only infrequntly see people texting and we have people from 14 to 30, with most in the 14-20 range.

You seem to be confusing the concepts of respect and manners, the latter being something you appear to be lacking in, reading your description above.

I don't think you realize, you don't have to respect people, for the sake of it.

That's just me, I was taught respect is something you earn, and well it seems they're right.

Because the people I don't respect, don't deserve it.

So if you were playing a rule completely and utterly wrong and a bystander watching pointed it out, since they have not earned your respect you would ignore them. Correct?

Not showing any respect at all for a stranger is deemed rude and impolite. You do not know whether they are worthy of your respect, or not. Because you do not know them. That is what manners are for. To maintain a semblance of civility and establish a good rapport with a stranger, thus giving a good impression, and indicating that you are a person worthy of respect

If you consider impoliteness to strangers to be wasting your time, and that strangers must somehow 'earn your respect' before you deign to show them common courtesy from your ivory tower, then the people you meet are probably going to assume that you are rude and ill-cultured. The result will be that they will reciprocate the rudeness, and you will never have any respect for each other.

Remember:- they are not the ones who solely have to prove themselves worthy of respect. You also need to prove yourself worthy of their respect. Bad manners are probably the least efficient way to do this.
