Right, here I am again peeps. Reason for the lack of picture updates lately is in part that I've been working on something big-ish, and updates on that are a bit boring. Also: I managed to break my poor old camera's kit objective's auto focus motor. I have to get a new objective now, for taking pictures of miniatures and ocasionally of games and wargames shows. Any suggestions by the photography-savvy out there? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Very interesting project indeed, because these chaps are meant to fit in with an already existing Ultramarines army (the one my good friend Garfy sold a while ago: https://taleofpainters.blogspot.com/2016/10/for-sale-2000pt-ultramarine-army.html?m=1#more. This means that I had not only to adapt my approach and style and paint things a bit differently than I might have if I've had free rein. The camo cloaks on the Eliminators were to fit the ones the Scouts in the existing army, which was a bit of a challenge to keep the look of the camo pattern even though it's not how I'd done it at all, so I had to improvise and adapt a little.

But yeah, fun times. Hope you like the army, and I hope that I get to paint Space Marines again soon!

Those are kinda spectacular Sigur. I love the blending and precise lines on the troopers & the dreadnought has just the right amount of wear. Enough to suggest age yet not enough to jar with with pristine state of the marines around him.

Yo, peeps. Happy Sunday afternoon. It's almost dark outside already. Kraziness!

Anyway, here's Rex and the Fire Flowers (band name!):

Can't say I painted platypuses before. Certainly not anthropomorphic ones in armour. With such prominent teeth. There's something unsettling about a beak with teeth, right? But then I think anything non-human with human-looking teeth is kinda unsettling.

Anyway, next up: Frog Knights! Riding chicken-like birds.

To be honest, I had to put the Frog Knights to the side for a bit. I just couldn't go on at this point and I'll finish them later. Instead I started working on Bashful Boris (the purple bear). Hope you like them!

Right, here's a tiny little update!



...mainly because I wanted to test something on the camera. I have to admit, that I'm glad when I get done with gold NMM again and go back to painting more 'realistic' things again (well, next on the schedule: Space Orks. ). But really, I'm very, very happy that I get to do these here. If there's one thing I like about miniature painting/gaming it's all the diversity we get in styles, minis, companies, rules, etc. and I'm very glad I get to do pretty much all of it! I wouldn't mind doing Space Marines for a long time, but it's all about shaking things up. Of course the fact that I do a wide variety of things means that I'm not a 'household name' in any genre really (and that's probably not the best thing in terms of 'advertising' and whatnot), but the range of stuff I get to do is cool. Couldn't be happier and fingers crossed that things stay that way.

Tomorrow I'll do a bit of an experiment - attending Comitatus' wargames club (who are located in Salzburg, Austria) Late Fall event for the first time. No painting workshop, no showcase stuff. I'll just go there as ....well, basically a punter. (basically becaue it was a very short-term decision on my part because I happen to have the time) However, for the first time in foreeeeever I'll be at a wargames show as just that. I even might get to play something! The experimental part of the whole affair is that I'll do the travelling back and forth (3.5 hours each) on the same day. Let's see how that goes. If there aren't any updates on this or other threads for the next weeks it means I ended up in a ditch next to some Autobahn. Good thing is that I won't have any showcase minis with me, so those won't get damaged if that's the case.

Anyway, hope to write a nice report of the show once I return and not be too dead to get some painting done on Sunday. I hear there's going to be a bit of a GW-/Fantasy overhang to this (as opposed to Austrian Salute run by the same group in March, which I usually attend). Gonna see Warcry and all of that. And I'll deliver some finished minis and pick up some new ones people want me to paint.

I'll look forward to that report, as I do all your reports. The little froggies on the birds are very strange... but also very cool. I haven't sorted those out yet in my head.

@Gitsplitta: Too kind. The frogs on the birds are complicated. It's basically frog knights in full armour sitting on the backs of these warchicken. And they have huge lances. Because if they wielded small swords it wouldn't make any sense, right?


Right, update time!



I opted for a group shot this time, because it's good for morale, covers up individual little problems, and just looks pretty (colours! Yay!). Basically the big purple bear's done now (just needs a final overhaul on the golds) and the big bunny Executioner is new.
That leaves me with getting the Fairy Dragon painted (it's a big one too), as well as a whole lot of treasure chests and Mimics, as well as some japanese looking temple lanterns.


Apart from that I spent about six hours abroad last Saturday. Here's my travel report of Comitatus club's Late Fall Battle Day:

Just a small event, but really nice to see the guys, see some nice tables, and all of that. At the same time Vienna ComiCon was on over in Vienna. I regret nothing.

Last Wednesday I had Cpt.Shandy over for another game of Twilight of Divine Right, which over the past year has become my go-to set of rules for Thirty Years War battles. This time we used a slightly different scenario (not based on a historical battle, but lifted from Scenarios for all Ages, by Charles S Grant and Stuart Asquith) for an interesting change of pace.

As usual after a game of Twilight of Divine RightI felt obliged to hastily paint some more units of things for the collection.

2 units of mounted Dragoons (featuring, among other things, the 'new' Pendraken dragoons, which loook great), 1 unit of Harquebusiers (featuring the 'old' Pendraken Harquebusiers), 1 unit of either pooror or later Cuirassiers or Reiters. Dudes with helmets, breast- and backplate, swords and pistols. And I actually forgot who made them. There's some Pendraken in there, a hint of Irregular, but I just can't remember the mainstay of the unit. Maybe it's new Pendraken ones as well? Not too sure.








Either way - that bumps the total number of cavalry units I painted this year up to a staggering 15. During the same time I also did 4 units of pike&shot (Swedish Brigades or Tercios. Or I split the number of bases in half to make them 8 later regiments), a bunch more musketeer bases on top of that, 1.5 units of dragoons on foot, 9 field cannons, 1 light cannon, 5 limbers. My total collection of TYW minis thus increases to over 1400 painted minis. Wahey!

I blame Twilight of Divine Right for that. And their insanely cavalry-heavy, large battles in the latter stages of the war. Well, and because it's a really, really fun game.

I'm painting later Napoleonic Prussians now. Here's the test unit, 3rd / 2nd East Prussian infantry regiment Fusiliers (ie the regiment's light infantry battaltion).

So the musketeers (front) are mostly done. The Landwehr infantry in the back still needs some more work, but I hope to finish them tomorrow as well.

After that there's still the Jägers left to do (whom I haven't even researched yet, so those will take a bit longer) and the officer on horseback. I better get all of those done quickly, because there's another batch of those guys coming up in a few weeks and in between I have to finish Polish lances and a whole bunch of Gretchins!
