Simple topic, just curious to know what names people have cooked up for their legions, chapters, kabals, craftworlds, and so on. Also to make this topic a little more than people just rattling off army names, how about you have to comment/criticise/compliment the prevous poster's names? Or maybe leave a sentence or two on why you chose your names. Also I did do a search before-hand as I assumed this would be a pretty common topic, alas I found nothing, or maybe I just fail at internetting.

Anyway here's mine:

Necrons: "The Necromancer's Court"-This is because my lord is simply known as "The Necromancer", I was also thinking of "The Court of The Black Manse", the Black Manse being the name of my necron lord's majestic tomb ship. He's something of a nomadic necron, rather than sleep on a tomb world he goes raiding forgeworlds and the like for tech, so he can restore his comrade's memories.

CSM: "The Inheritors"- Originally known as the "Inheritors of Caliban", if you couldn't guess already they're DA Fallen. Their themes include extreme arrogance and hypocriscy under the facde of justice. They believe they are the only real DA, or loyalists for that matter, and everyone else is Fallen or heretical. The name itself kinda sounds neat but doesn't actually mean anything when you think about it

Dark Eldar- "Kabal of the Withered Orchid"- Initially I was trying to decide among that, "Kabal of the Sundered Heart", and "Kabal of the Shattered Soul", in the end I think the "Kabal of the Withered Orchid" suits best, since my paint scheme has a lot of petal and flower imagery. Think cherry blossoms, and the japanese imperial symbol (I think it's a lotus or some sort of 8-petaled flower). Also the "Kabal of the Bladed Lotus" was already taken :(

Anyway there's mine, what do you guys got?

P.S. you don't have to write as much as me, I tend to get carried away with my armies' fluff, and I didn't even go that much in depth!

My brother had something like that before he completely changed his nurgle dudes into completely abhorring the weakness of flesh. They're all about the dust 'n' bones aspect of death, rather than fat slobs which seem to be nurgle's thing : D

Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

My IG are Company B of the Praetorian 37th Regiment, "The Emperor's Orphans." They're called that because due to a clerical error, they were left behind on a garrison planet instead of going on crusade. They now bum around the galaxy, fighting for anybody that can get them closer to home.

My Space Marines are the Star Owls. I actually paint an Athenian style "little owl" on each shoulder pad. They're a wisdom loving chapter that seeks clever solutions, and tends to avoid any battles of attrition.

My Biel-Tan warhost is called Warhost Chinook, which is a strong warming wind that brings great change. My Biel Tan are ultra-orthodox, and feel that eliminating other races from eldar worlds is a key step to rebuilding the empire.

Emperor's Orphans reminds me of the Odyssey, then you have the Athenian owls, not to mention my CSM are also vaguely greek inspired. It's a conspiracy!

Angels of Acquittance.

Reasons behind the name: Acquittance is a major part of the Christian theme and the split of the Dark Angels apears to be an allusion to the Protestant Reformation and as such the chapter's inner circle who are Fallen, but still serve the Imperium loyally though hiding the secrets of their past. They believe themselves to be lead by visions of Lion El' Jonson. Their goal is to collect the Fallen and purge them of the stain of dishonor before welcoming them to the ranks of the acquitted, reporting them dead to the Dark Angels.

Ellandornia was the name of an elven city I've often used in writing, so it seemed a natural fit for the name of my craftworld.

The Marauders and the Expiditionary Cadre are named after their respective leaders (Makkan was my Chaos Lord waaaay back in 2nd, and has since graduated to DP status).

The Daemon army name, well, it just sounded good

My friend's marines are called the warforged chapter

They have close ties with the salamanders and thier chapter master had one day discovered an artifact that he thought belonged to vulkan. After word got out an inquisitor had shown up requesting right to it, the chapter master refused saying that it is of no concern to the inquisition and thus the inquisitor struck down the chaptermaster in a climatic battle that left the chapter master on the brink of death. The chapter master would very well have died if vulkan himself not shown up along with salamander reinforcements and strangely enough, greynights were by his side. The inquisitor flew off the planet wwith the artifact after the greynights that had shown up with vulkan proclaimed that the inquisitor was a heritic. The chapter master was then put in a dreadnaught and everything was okay, eccept for the chapter master's burining nhatred for the heretic that had struck him down and made off with the artifact and thus the warforged chapter continuesly (I totally butchered that) persue the heritic inquisitor in an attempt to redeme themselves.... or the lore goes something like that lol. I think its cool.

I had a name for my ork army but i ended up forgetting it

I've got a Nurgle/Tzeentch themed Daemon army that is named the Plague-host of Turmoil. They have a C:SM war band that shares the theme named the Brotherhood of Virulent Misfortune. It's theme is a a collection of Deathguard and Thousand Sons legionnaires mixed in with other Nurgle and Tzeentch war band Marines that roam the Eye as a host for ever changing plagues and toxins. I think the two gods make for a pretty cool duality.

Ultramarines are Task Force Galatan, commanded by 2nd Company Captain Casca Maine. They're a mixed group of 1st, 2nd and 10th Company units with a little 7th and 8th Company Support.

Imperial Guard are the 444th Cadian Mechanised ('The Gate Keepers'), with elements of the 41th Tallarn Armoured Regiment ('The Iron Sands') and the Mordian 8th Artillery Brigade ('Hammer der Nacht'). Attached to them is a mixed Inquisitorial group. No real name for the group, other than their commanders (Xenos: Paula Descartes, Hereitucs: Cassius Seiko, Deathwatch: Augustus Greiz).

Chaos, again, no real name, just a collection of sub-commanders all working for/vying for position against their supreme commander, the Daemon Prince Horatio Lethus, former 3rd Company Captain of the Ultramarines and no Excommunite Traitoris.

Necrons have no name for their army.

And my Tyranids are Hive Fleet Scylla, and damned be GW's naming of 'Hive Fleet Scylla' in the recent Codex. I don't care. I did it before they did.

You can see my sig for the names of my armies... the Sunblitz Brotherhood is so named because the models resemble the helmet picture of the same name in the original Rogue Trader book. Amarie's Vertigo Tribe came about from blending many, many interesting words and concepts together, Amarie being from Tolkien which is the source of all of my Eldar names. The Wild Hunt is a reference to my custom list for Vor I wrote for my DE models. Void Jackals just sounded good.

It's in my sig, but what the heck.

My Tyranids are Hive Fleet Seraphim. Why? Because they're snowy/arctic themed, and I wanted to bring something kind of angelic into my Tyranids. I know, you're probably thinking "Wow dude, you're crazy." but it makes sense in my head. I'm a writer, and Seraphim are a high chorus of angels, I love the word and the theme, and in one of my stories, an angel is in a very arctic place, as well as another story involving a swords-woman from a snowy region who was known as "The Seraphim", so the word brings an icy image to my head. That said, my Tyranids are white with a light blue carapace.

Dark Eldar: Tempest of the Plagued Winds. In the fluff I've made for my own armies, my Dark Eldar love to raid, and they often come out of nowhere, blacken the sky (like storms are around here in Minnesnowta), and wreak havoc and destruction everywhere they go. Why the "Plagued Winds" part? Partially because it sounds awesome, partially because I can see them being like a plagued wind (Aethersails, the ships, the destruction), and also partially because I love Winds of Plague for being an awesome band with an awesome name.

Kingdom Death Fanatic. Dark Eldar: Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Dark Elves: Allegiance to the Black Crown. Also, Masons, Cygnar, and Legion of Everblight. All unnamed.
