There's uh, this one at Borderlands on Dec. 4th. Think it's the next post down.)

If your in the Orlando area, there are tournements almost monthly since there is like 4 or 5 game stores and they try to not overlap events. Amorous Armadillo is hosting Infinity and Warhammer Fantasy tournies this month, and Paladin is running a 40k tourny this weekend. Check the various store forums for additional details.

There's also Mega Comics and Games in Gainesville. The 40k scene in Gainesville's never been huge, but I have seen some tournaments hosted up there as well.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Which game system and how large of tournament are you looking for?

The next 40K tournament in Gainesville is December 4th and 12 players. I'll post more up later when details become available.

Not sure what classifies as a huge player base, but we play regularly on Saturdays. Now that there is only one store to play at there are more of us up there. We even have two female players. Does that make us big enough? Both are in relationships, so you'll just have to come up to play.

Hah! I lived in Gainesville from '93 to '07, so my view of the size of the playerbase may be skewed by my early years there, when there seemed to only be like eight guys who played.

There were a number of players there when I left, but seemed kind of spread out. I myself was a bit of a magpie at the time, painting up an army and then selling it off, so my playing was sporadic. Actually, one of my first armies was still up in Gainesville when I left, a blue and white Space Marine army.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Mega Games in Gainesville is growing, and they have a budding 40k community. The owner is trying to focus on growing the tournament scene. Might want to give a call and ask for a schedule.

Sci-Fi in Orlando is flipping huge. Great tournament experience there; I plan on sending Mahu a message on the forums here asking about upcoming events; they had a big Halloween bash, but I didn't go because it wasn't a tournament, more of a good vs. evil multi-game brawl with a winning side and a losing side, and I'm hesitant about having teammates I've never gamed with or met before. There are other stores in the areas with tournaments as well; I wish I had more details.

I can't speak for Borderlands; I've never gamed there, and the owner (Chip) has asked me not to because of the assclowns over at the other sinking store in town (see the real life batrep in my signature for more details)

It's two hours for me to get to any FLGS for a tournament, so 1.5 hours isn't too bad of an investment for you - you're going to spend 7-9 hours at the store anyway, so adding 3 hours for travel both ways isn't so bad; just a full day's investment.

Hobbytown in the Tampa area has a tournament on Dec 17th I believe.

Dash, you're welcome to come any weekend to Mega. Mostly we play for fun, but there are a few of us that will give you a challenge (hopefully) if you want.

WOW...

read your real life batrep and can honestly say I'm glad I'm not living in Jacksonville lol, I was actually thinking of heading up there to check out what they had for 40k but I think I'll pass.

Sci-fi is pretty big, I played in a neat planetstrike like tourney there with a good vs evil theme, nice prize support as well. If you ever wander through Citrus county send me a pm and we'll throw dice.

Its 2-2.5 hours for me to get there, so dropping by for a stroll and a "Anyone up for a game?" is out; I've got Vassal and the tables at my house for friends to come over and use for that. An RTT or quarterly tournament with a bit of prize support will draw me out of my cave though.

You better come out of your cave for the Invitational next year, JH

Mega will be holding monthly tournaments with winners getting store credit. Up to 12 players and 3 rounds for these monthly events.

Dash, can I count on you coming to the next 16 player / 4 round event in January? It's a long day, but we stayed on schedule and it worked out great. You must drive slow or live on the NE side of town. It only takes me about 1.75 hours to drive to Jax beaches going down 301.

There are many players there every Saturday, so it wouldn't be like you're wasting time. You can also pick up forgeworld items here from the large case of it. Do you want a Squiggoth or a Mammoth Squiggoth? How about a Chaos Titan? They're in the sale case.

Who owns MegaComics now? Is it still the twins?

Does Jason still work there, and more importantly, has he started playing 40k yet?

As far as I know, one guy owns Mega. The same owner before they closed in spring of 2008. The owner's brother takes care of the website. I've not met Jason at all. The owner wants to play, but hasn't the time. He's mentioned wanting to start a chaos renegade army. I think that's why he bought so much forgeworld, and most of it Chaos Renegades.

Sounds like you've got a lot of options within driving range! For an all-day tournament, I consider anything around 2 hours to be very do-able...

The only time I've been Gainesville was to hang out with a very good buddy of mine (Matt Horler aka DiscipleofYawgmoth) who games there. My GPS told me to take 295 --> I-10 --> 75 --> Gainesville. It was at least two hours. If there's a shorter route, it would be more attractive to me.

If I have a week or two forewarning, and there is an RTT going on...and it has prize support (you know, stockist/partner quarterly prize support) to make winning worth more than a $15 blister, I'll investigate atttending, especially if I can get Matt to get a day off / hang out with me.

Oh MAN is there a faster way. Just be sure to NEVER speed in small-town North Central Florida, ESPECIALLY Waldo.

Try using Bing Maps or Google Maps. They'll give you a much better route.

Having Dash run off of written or printed directions is a nightmare. He may have aced using a compass in the Army, but put him in a car and he is hopeless without Tomasina (the lady voice of the TomTom) telling him where to go.

I tried to tell him the 301 way, but omg, he still can't find our doctor's office without Tomasina and he's been there a billion times.

And now let the hating begin....

I once drove over an hour north instead of south, only realizing I was going the wrong way when I crossed a state line . Nothin' to hate over
